Ashcroft is, and in my opinion, has been for sometime, the most underrated working musician. Great, consistent voice, heart felt lyrics. For anyone aware of his catalogue of songs and albums appreciate him for the legend he is.
@youngdylan50836 жыл бұрын
Ashcroft knows how to pen a tune, but his production and understanding of how to compliment a song with talented musicians has been long gone since the Verve days. Nick McCabe held his songs together.

Evokes so many emotions. This is about his father passing. I was 18 when Urban hymns was released and this was number 1. I losted my dear mum when I was 15 from the same terrible disease has Richards dad. Cancer. She was 43. Beautiful dedication this is and obviously we can all interpret the song how we see fit. I've been clean for 2 years now from the brown. Music saves lives.

I was a fan of the verve at school and ever since. But only after watching this have I realised how good Richard Ashcroft actually is. His voice is amazing. He’s inspired me to buy an acoustic guitar and start learning his songs.
@stevengoodwin82086 жыл бұрын
I have been studying guitar and music for a number of years. It has been an incredible journey as on the way I have discovered lots of new artists and bands that I potentially wouldn’t have. I can honestly say that in my opinion, The Verve/Richard Ashcroft have wrote some of the best music I have ever heard. Though there are many great bands and artists, The Verve/Richard Ashcroft always gets played on my phone. Great music never gets old, just the musicians get old. But their music will always be here. I have read lots of different articles with regards to the meaning off these lyrics. People have their opinions. Richard once said they don’t mean anything and are open to interpretation. But my interpretation of these lyrics are that the drugs he is referring to are the drugs used to treat cancer. “The drugs don’t work they just made you worse.’ And “like a cat in a bag waiting to drown’ I think is very accurate when describing somebody sadly suffering from this illness. “I hope you’re thinking of me as you they down on your side’ I always visualise somebody suffering in bed and somebody is visiting them In hospital. Just my interpretation, either way it is still one of the greatest songs ever writing.

I was at the show and Richard did a phenomenal job. It perhaps wasn't Liam's best performance. But, on balance it isn't fair to say he "blew Liam out of the water." Liam came out with a full band and had to sing on top of all of that density - it wasn't a good setup to showcase his voice. Richard's setup - just a man and a guitar, by design is always going to sound soulful. Long live Richard and Liam - legends and rock n roll stars!
