That's awesome! More cities should get on board with community cat programs. Many people have cats living in their neighborhoods and need help getting the cats spayed or neutered. They don't want the cats removed, just help preventing them from reproducing. Our local city shelter will not take in feral cats. People are referred to the community cat program instead. There's also a barn cat program. Shelter animals are not killed for arbitrary reasons. None are killed to make room for more animals who might also be killed. The shelter works with local rescues as well.

@@snarkycharlies Cats hunt mice and rats... as well as any other small bird, reptile, or mammal(sometimes even fish and other aquatic animals). You act like cats were bred for hunting specifically mice, they were bred like dogs. Those are two completely different animals with completely different evolutionary histories and two completely different types of domestication(cats and humans, by definition, are mutually domesticated. Also cats likely urbanized before or during that process, so they're really just cohabitants). Most cats hunt anything. That's why they've been recognized as a exological threat on a global scale. They are extremely efficient hunters and are invasive to pretty much the entire world. The number of documented extinctions caused by "outdoor" cats, within the past several deacades, is well within the double digits. So keep your cat(s) inside, they are literally apex predators and will cause a problem for the local ecosystem.

I wouldn't put it past her brother to be able to catch his own but generally he wants me to catch the moving kitty treats ie bugs. Then he eats them & thoroughly grosses me out. Before my family moved to where my parents lived today, the old place was across from an empty field that Checkers would go hunting in. He'd cross, and people would look out so they didn't run over him. When he'd come home in the evening, he'd be carrying a rat half his size.
