Controversial story. Young owls often drop from the nest after which the parents raise them on the ground. They cannot climb and indicate their position to their parents with "ticking" sounds. That is why we call them ticklers. This man probably had a large tree in his garden and found the ticklers at the bottom of the tree. The parents are nearby or hunting, which makes it look like the young animals have been abandoned. Request: leave young wild animals alone, the parents are nearby. Do not take everything into your home under the motto "rescue operation". It seems to be becoming a bit of a fashion.
@ronweber1402Ай бұрын
@@paulvanderweerd7456 Me and my father "rescued" a great horned owl chick once. Now looking at it, it was huge and fully feathered and we thought it was injured so we took it to the wildlife sanctuary and they said it was still a chick and likely just couldn't fly yet.

@@paulvanderweerd7456 My cats would have got them. Also, didn't the story say he found them in a vent?
@paulvanderweerd7456Ай бұрын
@@FrankRizzo557 If they get the chance they will try to get higher up somewhere and yes, sometimes they end up in a ventilation opening. Do not use the fan until they are gone. The story also claims that they were already in the bathroom, of which there is photo evidence. I think he put them in the bathroom himself because of the deafening tapping sound they make to let the parents know where they were. Conclusion: animal abuse with a lot of Harry Potter content for his own greater glory.

If you ever get nostalgic for it, I'd recommend Robert E Fuller's KZbin. He's somewhere in the UK I think, but he has several pairs of various owls types that live on his property. He also takes in orphaned baby owls and places them with wild parents. It's amazing to see how quickly they adopt chicks. ❤

I mean I hope not because the number of people who actually have the necessary equipment and land to stimulate a wild animal is really small. Especially an animal used to being able to go where it wants like an owl. Maybe if they have a farm or live near a forest. But someone in an urban centre trying to keep a wild animal stimulated and enriched? That’s never going to work.

The idea that animals live carefree, happy lives in the wild is an idealized myth. In reality, wild animals face constant struggles-food scarcity, illness, and predators all make survival difficult. Starvation is common, especially in changing seasons, and any injury or illness can mean prolonged suffering or death, with no access to the medical care that domestic animals receive. Predators hunt with brutal efficiency, and prey animals live in constant fear, often enduring painful deaths. Nature is undeniably beautiful, but it’s also harsh and unforgiving. Recognizing this reality helps you better understand true complexity of life in the wild beyond simplistic, romantic views of “freedom.”

If this ever happens to you climb on the roof and find the other end of the vent. This is where to find the parents. The nest was probably built at the top of the vent and fell down a small owl box to put them in until they fledge would probably allow the parents to continue to care for them. Sometimes gravity is a better answer than an owl distribution system.
