As a 15 year old, that woman had to make the hardest, bravest, most heartbreaking decision at that tender young age. I applaud her for her decision. I hope she suffered very few days and her regrets were eased in time. At least now she knows her selfless act was the right thing to do for her and her son at the time. So happy they get to be reunited.

It is not brave, it is disgusting. A teenager can very well bring up a child, don't you have any kind of support system and education available for parents?! It is disgusting to separate a baby from its mother, she wasn't being brave, she was gaslighted and misinformed, convinced she couldn't have done it when she absolutely could have done it!

This is so amazing. Beautiful moment. I found my birth mother today. I am 35. I was angry for most of those years. Last week I got a letter that had some of my natural background information and in it there was a huge clue. I followed the clue as far as I could and continued with this piecing together bits of info until everything started to become clear. In 3 days I found my birth mother. I have a sister. She has 2 daughters. Nobody knew about me only my mother. None of her family. I was chatting with her daughter on Facebook and she said her mother was distraught. She had no idea and was feeling guilty and shame. She never knew how to tell her family and never expected to be found. Something that has haunted me for 30 years was solved in 3 days. I haven't spoken to her personally only through her daughter. I hope that day will come soon. I HAVE A MOTHER AND A SISTER! I've been crying for 3 days.

I am in this process as well, waiting on DNA results that could come any day now in hopes of finding my birth mother. I too have been angry for most of my life, and have sabotaged relationships with women all these years as a result of the abandonment I felt through having been adopted at birth(yes, I know, it's very destructive and hurtful).To be clear, my adoptive parents gave me all the love in the world and a great life full of opportunities that many people don't have. Through a realization/epiphany I had 1 month ago with a recent and very important ex GF, I have been able to turn the corner on my anger and realize things may not have been as they seemed at the time of my birth. I have resented my birth mother for decades, and through a strange parallel but different situation with my ex, I have actually turned a 180 on those feelings and would like to have the chance to meet her and talk with her on that. I know not all reunions go as well as we would like, but I am taking that chance, because it is worth it to me to try to resolve/manage this issue and also to know my origins and possible other family members. It's hard to explain, but I have my ex to thank for it and although our parting has been extremely painful, I am grateful to her for helping me realize this and will tell her when the time is right.

You do understand right that mothers are sometimes forced to release their children from their care? I myself am adopted, and have not been with my biological mother since I was 2. I was immediately given to a foster mother upon birth, and have never ever seen my biological mom's or dad's face. I do not know much about them, at all but I can safely assume that it was a difficult choice to put me up for adoption since my birth parents have / had several other children; both younger and older (I myself have again not met my siblings yet). There are a number of reasons as to why children are adopted, and it's not because their mothers don't love them or don't have the effort of taking care of them, it's usually because they can't take care of them 99% of the time. It's not an easy choice to give away one of your children, especially in the essence of that mother not even holding their child.

I don't like how some people assume that just because someone puts their child up for adoption, automatically means they did not want or care for them. This is utter bullshit. Some people are like that, sure, and there are people who are irresponsible and don't deserve to have children, but there are people like this woman, too, who ended up pregnant for whatever reason, but had to make the hard choice of giving up their baby because they could not care for them properly, either due to their age, living conditions or financial issues. She also probably did not dump him on the side of a road somewhere, either, she probably left him somewhere where he would be cared for, and it's obvious she's been wanting to see him again ever since.
@obicat Жыл бұрын
To Nycot: Yes, the mother is often forgotten & obscured. Most are silent due to the shame & blame that they feel from society, yet those same people who shame and blame are the same ones who think she's a saint for her "sacrifice" for "gifting" her child to a childless couple when she's pregnant. Afterwards, kicked to the curb. Many adoptees are angry for being "given away". Taking someone's baby to give to a childless couple is wrong, hurtful to both mother and baby, causing lifelong trauma and loss. Truly unconscionable.

Both can be true-for many adoptees and people with different biological parent(s) from those they were raised with, both types of relationships are very meaningful and fulfilling. Valuing one definitely does not mean not valuing the other, just like having multiple children does not dilute the love one has for existing children. Also, most folks in these circumstances don't use "real mother" to describe their biological mother. Real to them can very much be the mother who raised them. :) Take care.
@obicat Жыл бұрын
To Linda Roper: Very insensitive comment! You don't have a clue about what this mother has endured. She was the one who carried him for 9 months & gave birth to bim. She will always be his mother. Adoption should not happen in most cases, yet adoption agencies are in it for the $$$ & are very skilled in persuading a young distraught single mother to place her baby for adoption instead of trying to keep them together. It's time that society works to help keep mothers and their babies together, not separate them. Infant adoption is cruel, causing lifetime loss and trauma to both mother and child.

Valuing one definitely does not mean NOT valuing the other, just like having multiple children does not dilute the love one has for existing children. It tends to be a very different kind of relationship, and provided that they were truly raised with love, there's absolutely no replacing raising-parents.
