I visited three animal shelters in LA with Miyoung, Marche, Fuslie, and Valkyrae, and donated $25,000 to cover the adoption fees for every dog at each of them to start the long journey of finding my new best friend.

@@jimothyj2638 Each to their own and I kinda get it, but it just seems crazy when there is already so many pets put down due to be unable to be re-homed. If you want a certain breed, shelters will usually have them, or you can keep trying around and wait until they do. If you can't wait a month or two for your desired breed, you're probably not entirely ready for the responsibility that is being a responsible pet owner. Its just that the less demand breeders receive, the less they feel the need to keep supplying. I understand everyone's circumstances are different, but it's just heartbreaking to find a home, be put up for adoption, find another home and then someone abandons them again because they weren't ready to go through with such a commitment. Its like people who have kids to 'keep the marriage together', like bruh that is not the point, it won't work, and you're risking someone who depends on you for food, shelter, love and play because you were bored or wanted to save a marriage. I used to volunteer at a shelter and I personally couldn't imagine not taking in a rescue, but you do you. Im just trying to spread a lil bit of education as a treat. If you're 20 and get a pet now, they'll be with you into your 30s hopefully. Big commitment yknow.

I can understand Wags & Walks shelter's stance on the adoption fee. To put it bluntly but in the nicest way possible if you cant afford to adopt a dog you cant afford to have a dog and keep it safe. They have lots of hidden expenses. It's being responsible for the dog's future and they dont want to see the dog coming back into the system. Such a great gesture though and I'm sure all these places appreciate any help they can get.

Also the fee is intended to weed out the really shitty people who would take a "free" dog and do cruel stuff with it, like dogfighting or just straight up torturing and killing. And it makes people put at least some thought into getting a pet and not just swing by and grab a cute free doggo that they might not even really want.

i don’t think you should ever go into a shelter looking specifically for a puppy. rescuing isn’t about finding a dog that fits your aesthetic but giving a chance to the dogs who may not seem like the obvious choice, aka the senior and grown dogs. as someone who works at a shelter, i definitely think that hasan should consider volenteering at a shelter. so many of these dogs have come to the shelter fearing men and big men especially so having someone of his stature o would help some dogs definitely warm up to males. especially since he is so gentle with the dogs. this could also help with him loving so many of the dogs! i know our shelter lets people sign up for volunteers regularly so i’m sure some near the LA area would do the same!

I lost my boi to cancer years ago and I have a picture of him next to my computer. I fucking loved that dog man. Raised him from the day he was born till he the day he died. He was chill but also my best friend and a little bit nutty but also a proper big mutt. Whippet Labrador crossed with a Gordon Setter/German Shepard. I miss him terribly. I did a lot of volunteer hours at the SPCA. It's a lot of cleaning, feeding and then you get to have about 2 hours of playtime with the dogs. I have a few rescues and used to have rescue rabbits (the situation they were in was so sad). The paying adoption fees is so nice 💜.

I adopted a puppy about a month ago, (so it's 3 months old now) and it's A LOT of work. It's a lot of watching the dog, making sure they're not trying to kill themselves, 2+ hours of play time. Going outside every 10-30 minutes. Training. Etc

I had a Beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog who was my Service dog for 5 amazing years as well. He helped me through some of the darkest moments of my life and gave me hope again. He got stomach cancer in 2020 right in the middle of Covid aswell and unfortunately passed away. Also if you want to feel out having a dog fostering is the way to go ! Waiving the adoption fee is a really kind thought, but the fee is an important part of making sure someone is committed to taking care of their new doggo financially. They're gonna have to pay for food, toys, and vet visits for the rest of puppos life, and the adoption fee is the beginning of all that. Paying for more dogs to be rescued, and for food and other resources, is honestly a much better use of a big donation

And the second was a jack russel who got a really bad disease and was put under medical care,he was getting alot better but then suddenly passed away,we later on found out they gave him the wrong medicine causing his heart to stop.

Just a note on kill shelters vs. no kill shelters: kill shelters are usually the county animal shelters of that city and they are required to take in all animals that are brought into the shelter. That includes sick animals, animals with severe behavioral issues, and abused animals. No kill shelters on the other hand, get to pick and choose the animals they have in their shelter (and usually pick animals from kill shelters they know will be easier to adopt out). From what I remember volunteering at my county shelter, to be qualified as a no kill shelter, you have to prove your shelter euthanizes less than ~10% of animals annually, meaning in severe circumstances they are still able to euthanize animals if they deem it necessary. At my county shelter aka a "kill shelter," they met the requirements to certify themselves as a no kill shelter but did not pursue it because it would affect the number of animals they would be able to take care of at that shelter yearly and it is just a costly title. All in all, I would argue that it's more important to support county shelters because they require more funds to take care of the difficult animals they are required to accept into their shelter. They have to hire more experienced staff to deal with animals with special needs ie. behavioral staff and money to afford more vet care for animals with severe health issues. From my experience, the people at county shelters work so hard to make sure every animal that comes into the shelter has a strong chance of being adopted and the decision to euthanize an animal is not taken lightly at all. They will exhaust all avenues (behavioral modification training, vet care, fostering etc.) before even considering euthanizing an animal. Furthermore, this does not include that county shelters are also required to house animals that are not for adoption like animals on a behavioral hold ie. quarantine or bite history, lost pets, animals that are caught in the middle of a legal dispute, and animals being housed for people who do not have a safe living environment at the moment. ...phew that's a long one.

I just lost my pit-bull, Hash, to cancer in June. He was my best friend for 10 years, we did everything together. I’ve been feeling incredibly lonely without him. Put simply, this video was a welcome moment of joy for me. I’m not emotionally or financially ready for a new dog yet, but it’s nice to think about rescuing another pup someday.

thats a good point about the adoption fee weeding out people who aren't serious. I'd have shotgun adopted a puppy if it was free many times in my life and lets just say that would have been a disaster.

I found fostering to be a great experience. It was going to be my first time having a dog on my own and I wanted to give fostering a try to make sure I could handle the commitment and she what traits I wanted in a dog. I ended up fostering 3 puppies and then finding the puppy I wanted to adopt. It was hard giving up the first foster but realized it was the best for everyone because it wasn’t a perfect fit and he found a loving home.
