I have these snails. It all began with the day when I bought fishes from a fish store. I brought the fishes home. When I released all my fishes in my aquarium. Suddenly I saw that there was a snail in the bag and the snail was these snails in this video. It was so tiny. I thought it's a baby. But few days later it laid eggs. Okay a few days after I brought this snail home. I bought some aquarium plants. And the plants were full of snail eggs. All the eggs that my tiny snail laid and the eggs that I found in my plants hatched. Now I have so many snails. First I thought these snails are pests. So I decided to get rid of these snails. So I thought I'd take all the snails back to the fish store or I'd release them in the wild. But this video inspired me a lot. Now I don't want to get rid of them I'm keeping them all.🙂🙂🙂

large snails need more room and they may care more "things" (leeches and etc) on the shell, and they already aged - those are main reasons I prefer and suggest to adapt younger snails. Though, large snails make any aquarium look better.

Snails I found in ponds feed on green algae and any organic detritus, wilting leaves and such. You may try to feed your snail with fish food flakes or any green leaves you may find on your kitchen (except onion, garlic, citrus, nothing spicy and such). I make fish food flakes from plants that grow in my aquariums. And I feed my fish with dry malbery leaves too. So you have many options to try. Just give it a small pinch of any food a day and watch if your snail likes it. Over feeding is dangerous and may destroy your aquarium. All the best on your adventure!

I bought some pond plants and they came with little snails and something like mini shrimps (but they are not shrimps) ... Is there anyway to kill the harmful bacteria from their shells and put the biggest into my betta's tank ? (Or to put them in some hospital tank with some medicine to kill that bacteria? )
@4me5 жыл бұрын
Mini shrimp could be seed shrimp - they are often come with freshwater plants and snails. Seed shrimp are harmless and very useful in aquariums. It could be some other critters... I don't use any kind of medicine or chemicals in my aquariums/ nurseries. You can set up a couple temporary nurseries for your new snails. Keep snails in one nursery for a day or two then move snails into another nursery discarding everything from the first one. Repeat it for a couple weeks. Most tiny critters would get lost from shells of the snails in this way. And eventually it will be safe to move snails into your main aquarium. Just keep in mind that there are many more critters on the plants than on shells of snails - so you may want to caranteen all new plants as well ;)

@4me7 жыл бұрын
Hmm..They transmit disease as all live forms do. The density population of all creatures follows the same rules. It goes up and down and then again in cycles. Fish eat them faster then they reproduce themselves. I have to keep them in separate nurseries for that reason. They cannot overpopulate the nursery size and there is only certain amount of food available. I've never got enough of them and don't ever consider releasing them back to the pond - I don't see point of it.

I don’t have any springtail or seed shrimp so I’m thinking ahead in terms of mold control. Secondly, I found wild spearmint, could I plant that in there with the snails? Thanks so much. This video really helped me
@4me2 жыл бұрын
I can tell for sure only about things that I tried. I did not use charcoal in my setups. However since you asked...I think that charcoal does not kill mold or prevents mold from growing. Charcoal may slow down the growth of mold. I think that avoiding overfeeding is the most effective way to prevent mold and most other issues in aquariums and terrariums. In other words - simply remove timely food leftovers and any wilting/spoiling parts of plants on which mold feeds and grow. Snails among many other critters actually tackle this task for living :) Spearmint, as any other herbs and plants with strong aroma generally repeal insects, lizards...and snails. So, I would not use it in terrarium with snails. But, the Nature always plays with us. So, it may sense to try and see perhaps just to get personal experience. All the best on your adventure!

@4me7 жыл бұрын
The choice is yours! But since you ask for my advice...I populate all my aquariums with freshwater snails. So, I would keep it there. There is a good chance you may have more than 1 snail in your aquarium already! he-he Snails lay eggs often and multiply quickly. The population goes up and down in cycles. Some people saying that snails poop a lot - they don't poop more than they eat ;) and what they eat is usually something you would not want to keep in the aquarium to begin with. Remember! you found it in the filter. Filter is the place full of food for snails and many other tiny critters (seed shrimps too ;) Saying it all means they are helpful to remove waste that you try to pick up with filter. Snails may eat/ damage some plants - the soft green (and wilted) leaves are very attractive for them. That is something that could be of your concerns with regards for keeping snails. Best regards!

@4me5 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderhardy8201 Once you introduce snails in an aquarium (willingly or accidently) it is near to impossible to remove them or to separate them in any ways. They lay eggs in places that make it hard to spot. And they hide in plants and everywhere.
@setholson28785 жыл бұрын
The snail population will self relate. If there is a lot of available food (fish food, algae, or decaying plant matter) they will breed but as food becomes more scarce they will stop breeding and sometimes die out.

So I think my beta fish Tsuki is dying. Would it be a good idea to get about three snails to keep in Tsuki’s old tank? There are some figurines in the tank right now, would that be alright for the snails? I think the snails eat some of the stuff that grows on the tank…but I would feed them once in awhile, right? I have Tsuki’s heater (idk what to call it) and filter, would I keep those in there or remove them…?
@4me3 жыл бұрын
Snails are great in any aquarium especially if you feed them - you would get many more snails in short time. As for the heater and whatever other equipment you may have in the aquarium for fish - snails do fine without any equipment. I would still keep it (probably turned off) for the time you decide to keep some other pets that may require use of this equipment.
@jeromes60587 жыл бұрын
the snails in this aquarium will always stay small because they are a different species than the ones whith the extra lid thing, I have the small ones al over my aquariums. The big ones may need more algea and that is why they die in aquariums, you could try feeding them algea wafers but they most certainly will not eat hair algea. If they dont eat wafers then they are auflux grazers and need a pond or lots of surface area.

I noticed they very well aware of fish in aquariums and hide away. You may get initially just couple and give it month or so the population grows exponentially (as it goes with other creatures). I kill the eggs by knocking them into the water which I understand kills the eggs. I am working on a trap that will help reduce a larger quantity than just knocking down the eggs. Suman Khadgi I only can say about common pond snails (bladder) - those I keep in my aquariums. They were laying eggs in the output compartment of filter I used to have in my large aquarium. Apparently, the strong current did not bothers them. Water conditions, predators and natural old age are more likely reasons than water pump. I don't know if land snails could live in aquariums...surely they would need access to atmosphere air as common pond snails ;) Yesterday I got 2 new snails from pond. They are different type. It is going to be fun if they start breeding :))

Don't panic. I cannot advise you about using any chemical - I don't use it. I would transfer fish in a couple different aquariums to prevent from getting contaminated (if it is not yet). Though, it would work only if you have spare aquariums prepared in advance. Otherwise, let it stay in the old aquarium and see what happen. I've done the same mistake couple times in the past. Usually, nothing bad happens. Though, one time I lost half dozen pregnant females - weirdly, no other fish were affected.

How do you control your population of snail????
@4me7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question! I don't control population allowing the Nature to take care of it. Population of snails (and all other live creatures including animals) goes up and down in cycles. It follows the same pattern for any given size aquarium. The population density goes up until it reach limit of the of the population density for that space or amount of food or oxygen and etc. Then it goes down and again up. Once snails introduced in the aquarium it is very hard to get rid of them, though it is possible by different means. One can remove snails physically picking up one by one - that is laborious task to handle that can be delegate to planarian - they eat snail eggs leaving only adult snails in aquarium. Here is video about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmnSm4uGfbiAnpo
