I'd say Sims 2 is the most realistic. The whole aspect of having enough money to properly bring a new child in, waiting for the next day, not being able to adopt anymore after getting children taken away, they getting back to the "orphanage", and so on.

Well, I know that if you adopt a child, you cn legally change their name. I know of adopted children that usually come from a bad place and want a "fresh start" so their adoptive parents let them pick a new name. No one forces them to change their name, but a lot of them do get their names changed when they're adopted. In the Sims 3 you have the ability to create that type of story line, in which the child wants to change their name, and then picks a fun name or something like that haha

Very true, but it does happen. One of my best friends was adopted at 9 and her mom changed her name. I noticed in sims 3 that the adopted child isn’t just randomized, they are randomized from sims you have saved in your sim bin. I had made a wicked witch of the west once and saved her to the bin and forgot she was there. A few months later I did an adoption and got a green baby. I guess I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure that kid was the witches baby. That would explain why I sometimes got kids with pink hair too, if they were based off of sims I had saved.

My favourite is actually sims 2. I don't mind waiting (altho I don't have to, maybe I have a mod for it, can't remember), and not being able to name toddlers and children is pretty realistic. I mean, even if I could, I would feel bad taking away a child's name and identity from them, especially in a stressful situtation. Just imagine living your life for 4-5 years with one name, then waking up one day, you move to a completely unfamiliar place, "random strangers" are your family now, and even your name changes. It's a lot to take for a little kid

Sims 2 is definitely the best version for me here. I actually really don’t like that you can change the name of a child-aged Sim in TS3 (and 4). IRL I don’t think you would/should change a child’s name unless they are too young to remember. I also don’t like that children who are taken away just disappear and don’t go into the adoption pool in TS3. TS4 is the worst though - I only found out a few months ago about the child just ‘poofing’ away through watching a GrayStillPlays video and I was appalled enough just by that. I had no idea they hadn’t programmed in a social worker (but really, I should have expected it). That game is so bad.

I'm skeptical about The Sims 3 because sadly, without AwesomeMod, the kid will end up having a pudding face 99% of the time (which means all adopted kids have exactly the same face). The Sims 2 has the best system imo. Adoption doesn't cost anything, but you need to have some financial stability to be able to adopt. And re-adopting is super cool. Lack of gender choice might be a bummer, but you can always save right before the social worker comes and repeat the adoption to get different results (like with labor). Plus, I am IN LOVE with the fact that adopted babies are bred from existing townies, so babies always turn out to be the most unique looking, with mixed up appearances instead of just basic templates :D

The Sims 2's adoption system is my favourite of the bunch, although it's not perfect. I actually like having to wait a day for the social worker to come. I know people irl that have adopted (or tried to, at least), and it can be a very lengthy process (at least where I live). I imagine that day you have to wait is used to do background checks on the parents, do all the paperwork, etc. It's annoying, yes, but so is the real thing, lol. That's why I also like the money requirement and that they won't let sims who have had their children taken away adopt. I take it as the sim social services making sure they are giving the child to suitable parents. Something I really like about the sims 4's system is that you can choose from a "pool" of available children, which I find very realistic. Orphanages and such only have so many children, after all, so that's kinda realistic. I *really* dislike that you have to pay, though. That makes it seem you're buying the child, which sounds just awful. One thing I'm sad none of the games have is the option to adopt more than one child at once. I know people who, for example, adopted siblings so as not to separate them. That option would be nice on the sims 2, since children that have been taken away go to the "adoption bin". Though I suppose you can just adopt them one at the time.

"There's no social worker npc." There's nearly no npcs period. Also, the immediate adoption just goes to show that The Sims 4 lacks any and all consequences. I do like that kids went back into the adoption pool of The Sims 2. It allowed for fuller story telling. I remember I had a kid taken away from one sim and had her sister adopt the baby - sort of like trying to keep the child with some family member before adopting them out to someone else.

Even though it’s a mod I believe MCCC allows for neglected kids to not disappear into the grey area. You know where cars, improved babies, classic NPC and gameplay exists lol. I do hope that they expand on adoption for TS5. I’d love for it to be a little bit harder to adopt. Like sims who have the hates children trait shouldn’t be allowed to adopt. I wish we had orphanages where our sims could go and bond with potential children instead of picking them out of a catalog like they are objects. Just a little more realism and challenge.

Also, I do think having 3k funds is definitely reasonable. What I would love to see in the future, an application process, perhaps similar to the Head Master scenario in Sims 2. Fun fact: all adopted children (and also all randomly generated NPCs, and also the sims that move into the empty houses in your neighborhood) in the Sims 3 have the same face. It's the "default face" with all sliders set at 0.

TS2 kids taken from bio parents can be a freaking nightmare. I almost always give up risky woo hoo babies from non-family Sims. If you do that too many times you can forget that a bio relative want to start dating them. 😖 My poor sim granddaughter went on a date with her much younger Oopsie uncle adopted by a different family.

On the Sims 1, in French (my native language) the question that pop goes like "Est-ce une bonne idée d'adopter un enfant ?", that is to say "Is it a good idea to adopt a child? ". This translation sucked, because when I first had that phone call, I thought it was a general question. So, I said "yes", but actually I was not ready for a child and I was very surprised 😂😂😂

When I was playing the Goth family in Sims 1 the adoption agency always rang on first day of playing, so I though it was a scripted event, and I always thought that Alexander was adopted (thus had no suspicions about him not looking anything like Mortimer). I didn't realize he was supposed to be Mortimer's bio son until I saw all the theories that he was secretly Goopy's child xD

I don't really mind not being able to name the adopted child in Sims 2, because in real life if I were an adoptive parent I wouldn't want to change say, my new 7 year old's name lol unless they want to pick something. If they're a baby they aren't conscious enough to know so in that case it would be different, and that's exactly what the Sims 2 mirrors, which I like.

I’ve only had a child taken away once in 16 years of playing. That was in sims 2. I think sims 3 has the best adoption process. Though I never change the child’s name unless it’s a baby, it just seems wrong, I don’t want to erase their identity.😅

Great video Cindy! Once when playing the Sims 4 my sims were getting married on a community lot and my toddler was taken away, I was devastated and thought she was gone forever but was surprised to find her in the manage households screen all alone in her own household, so I just added her back to my family. This was a few years ago and I don't know if it was a glitch or something they fixed recently.

I agree that a child taken away should go back into adoption pool, even if the original adopting family cannot get them back. Then at least you could have another family take them in.

I like the Sims 2 adoption process and I don't mind waiting a day. If it happens I would like a specific gender for the kid, I save just before arrival of the Social Worker and if I'm not happy I do a do over. eg: my medieval neighbourhood has a druid household that only initiate boys into the mysteries. I liked the adoption process in the Sims 4 as well but I'm not keen on the game itself unfortunately. Great video - I love your comparisons!

To be honest I prefer TS2 system. A few days ago I was playing my Pleasantview save, and Nina just had Don’s baby. She died (because Michael Bachelor’s ghost scared her to death) and the baby was taken away by the social worker (as she was living alone with the kid). Thanks to TS2 system, Dina and Mortimer could adopt this baby. This wouldn’t have been possible in any other sim game unfortunately!

My favorite is Sims 3 and 2. Sims 4 could be great if they made the changes you suggest. I like a bit of a household funds requirement instead with a price for the agency. Think it's realistic but not a gamechanger for me. It's super sad about homeless kids or just disappearing from game though 😳

Sims 2 is definitely my favourite. I think it's the most realistic. The one day wait reflective of how long it actually takes people IRL to adopt. The financial aspect of needing money in the bank to adopt. In real life older adoptees e.g. toddlers and kids would already have names and it would be disruptive to change them

Back, before I installed MC Command Center, I played a few 4 toddler challenges. The one where you set up the home and don't intervene, leaving the sims to raise the toddlers entirely on their own. In one household, an angelic toddler's hunger got too low and was taken away. That toddler didn't appear anywhere else and in the family tree, remained a toddler even after the other 3 toddlers aged up to child and teen. Looks like when children get taken, they're wiped from the game entirely.

One day, in TS3 I adopted a child. Yeah nice, my Sim loved her. I decided "well I'm hungry. I'll leave it going while I make something to eat, it won't take more than 5 minutes." When I came back, the child was taken away because my Sim was too stupid to care for her on her own. WELP (I kinda closed the game without saving, entered the game again, and I got the child back because I saved the game before I went to eat)

I should point out that if the adopted Sim is a child, then the first thing the adoptive parents will do is hug the adopted Sim. Though the adopted Sim may reject the hug if his/her lifetime relationship with the adoptive parent initiating the hug is below 16. Just something interesting that I thought is worth noting. The fact that Steffi Oldie is wearing the same colours as Coral Oldie reminds me of the time my CAS Sim Stacen Edwards adopted a computer generated orphan named Amin Edwards who looked nothing like his adoptive father, apart from the fact that they both had the same hairstyle. I always tended to have my Sims adopt children over babies and toddlers. Because they have more options available to them. Although in practice, they have one life stage less to develop all their skills. I found toddlers really annoying back in the day because they always cry when they are in the crib and their energy is full. And they are always asking for attention. Thankfully I discovered that having them build their charisma, logic, and creativity skills keeps them occupied when they aren't being potty trained, learning to walk or talk, or learning a nursery rhyme. I had no idea that the genetics of adopted babies would be randomised using the 'Make a Child' option instead of through normal Create a Sim like all other adopted Sims.

I think it would be cool if our sims could give their kids up for adoption, maybe even pick another sim couple to adopt it. Or even if we were able to adopt a sibling group and before adopting a social worker has to come and inspect the house to make sure there's enough bedrooms in the house and that everything is clean before your sim can have approval. I really wish they didn't just vanish

oh I learned the sims 4 adoption the hard way. I had a story building up where I made one of the siblings to be taken away so they can be adopted somewhere else and re-unite later. Well... needless to say my "whisked away" child was gone forever... ( I went through all in world and non world households) but then again it doesn't really matter when they don't even have memory system xD

I'm so different in that I'd like harder requirements to adopt a child, maybe 5K in your funds and working beds for the children that they could send a social worker to check out the next day and if you have like really bad furniture and all the cheap appliances with half painted rooms, they could reject your application. That'd be so much cooler than in sims 4 where everything is so easy there is no incentive to do anything.

I had it happen two times that whisked away children in the Sims 4 were automatically adopted into townie households, buuuut watching your video I guess that MC Command Centre might've made that happen. The first child got whisked away because it got stuck in some animation randomly and thus couldn't eat and when I noticed it, it was too late. The other child was adopted automatically because their NPC parent died, so the household had no adult or teen anymore who couldtake care of them.
