It's the simple truth of our effect on the Arctic. By the end of the decade we could see what's known as a Blue Ocean Event, where the Arctic ice in the summer recedes to less than 1 million square kilometres. Without the ice to reflect sunlight, the warming up of the Earth would increase even more dramatically, exacerbating the problems faced by that baby seal trapped on the ice floe.
