Awesome video Gavin. You always provide some great inspiration. I made a v-flat by taping 6 white foam core boards purchased for $1 each at a discount store. Now I can see the advantages of using a black side, so I may splurge and purchase 6 black foam core boards to tape on the backside. And who knows, there may be an awesome model available in the discount store that I can buy to help me out as much as Polly helped you.

V flats are extremely useful for small home studios. And they are easy to make as well, with some foam board from the dollar store and gaffer tape. I cut one into sections and hot glued an edge on the top so I can stack them as high as I want. And being cheap, you can make tons.

I see I am not the only one who asked about the V-Flats. Glad Gavin pointed out how heavy they are. I think I am going to use these Polystyrene-Foam-Board-Insulation found at the Home improvement store. We have a Lowes or Home Depot in our area. The ones I prices were only $12 a piece! So much more affordable than the ones sold premade.

Here is a tip, the gap between the two flats, you can actually make the flats closer together and shoot through a smaller gap. ie, id does not have to be the width of the lens.

You could do that Edwin but by building up the effect with a 50% opacity brush on each snow layer I kept a tiny bit of randomness to each layer.
