Nah Bellingham has been distinctly average since the Serbia game. Occassional (but admittedly important) last gasp goals have been papering over the cracks of poor play for the majority of the 90 minutes. He really needs to step up.

God we’re such a depressing country, manager tries something new rather than playing the same 11 game in and game out and it didn’t work this time around. So what! I’d rather these performances happen against Greece in 2024 than against Germany in the WC in 2026. Think it was clear the attack needed someone to take control of the situation, everyone was way too polite and trying to share the ball around. Even the best soldiers need a general to lead them into battle. Hope he continues to experiment, I’d probably bring in Guehi for Colwell + move Foden to the bench and give Bellingham the opportunity to drive the attack.

Bellingham, Vinicius, and Rodrygo all frequently do that to get the crowd going and raise the atmosphere. Wembley had zero atmosphere and Bellingham was trying to get the crowd into the match. All great players who can also be great for England if the team is organised correctly and the individuals are managed properly. I’m talking about Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, Kane and whoever we play on either wing. Anyone who has some tactical vision and discipline that can see from our recent history (under Southgate) and the players currently available will understand what needs to be done to fix the mess this team is currently in.

As much as I do like Carseley's Ange esque mentality towards attacking football, to use Football manager terms, playing 2 ballplaying centrebacks (Instead of pairing stones with a more defensive CB) in Stones and Colwill, and 2 inverted wingbacks in Lewis and TAA, a CM/CDM in Rice alongside a Palmer playing a CM Mezzala, Wingers that like to invert in Saka and Gordon, and the main talking point of False 9 and CAM which have major role overlap with Foden and Bellingham really felt like something I'd use when I'm playing against a league one team in an FA cup game to style on them because my team is so much better with the ball at feet, the most glaring omission is the lack of a sweeper keeper who is comfortable with their feet so this whole strategy fails at the most pivotal link imo. I don't know who it is, but we need a goalkeeper who is suitable for the everybody is good with the ball at the feet and we'll eventually make something out of controlling the ball strategy to work. Everyone needs to confidence that the player behind them won't misplay with the ball when under pressure to play at their best, this was clearly not the case with Pickford last night. Cole Palmer playing that deep as an attacking Right CM when he's protected by TAA at right Inverted Wingback was a tactical oversight as demonstrated by their average position maps that show them basically in the same spot with neither of them being reknowned for their defending attributes, so either Rico or Trent need to be replaced by and inverted Full back that will become a back 3 instead of leaving the back 2 or Rice needs to be paired with a more defensive midfielder to cover for the lack of coverage in the backline, Palmer really should've been afforded a role higher up the pitch and Foden should be relegated to the bench until his performances in an England Shirt warrant him starting.

It's no coincidence that England looked much better against Ireland and Finland when neither Jude nor Foden were in the squad as Carsley picked a more balanced team. Rice was literally playing in a one-man midfield last night!! No wonder the Greeks were running right through us!! YET AGAIN... the problem stems from trying to fit all the star players into the starting 11... Foden should not be starting, he's barely had minutes for City this season... midfield should of been Gomes - Rice - Palmer... Watkins up front and Gordon and Saka out wide. Carsley set his team up like Ossie Ardiles did when he was Spurs manager. Any decent manager knows you build a team from the back. The top three teams in the Premiership last season had the three best defences. Where the hell was our defensive midfield last night and Alexander-Arnold at full back is not the answer. Pickford plays in goal for Everton for a reason, he's not good enough for a title challenging team.

very few external factors can make someone play great. they need a stronger internal drive to improve. take the criticism, learn from your mistakes and improve your game. but to be fair i think a lot at fault here is the coaching

I have been saying for years that our so called STARS are very overrated and are just bit part players for BETTER foreign players who represent 70% of teams in our EPL. They are just NOT GOOD ENOUGH and we need to review English football in depth back to school level to produce WORLD CLASS players that can match other countries. I really don't think Pep or Klopp could make this very AVERAGE bunch into world beaters. The Greeks were superior to us in ball control, creativity, passing, shooting, dribbling and the other fine arts of the game ? I thought that St. Georges Park was set up to specifically to produce English players capable of matching what other countries can come up with. At least we can stop bashing GS and just admit we are INFERIOR and DO NOT produce world class players capable of winning anything !!
