Puig wasn't laughing because he couldn't understand Adrian Gonzales, he was laughing because Adrian is bilingual and fluent in English, so he could answer the reporter in English. Puig needs an interpreter, while Adrian doesn't, so Puig was amused that Adrian was wasting time speaking in Spanish, just for it to be translated back to English.

The first time I saw this video I thought that Gonzalez was translating Puig's heavy Cuban Spanish for a more accessible "regular" Spanish. That's why I thought Puig was laughing (and Gonzalez does those sort of things to be funny) but alas I was wrong.

Because Puig's accent is Cuban accent which is Caribbean Spanish very different than Mexican Spanish,Puerto Rican Spanish,Cuban Spanish and Panama Spanish are very similar.
@pr-vn2hy
@pr-vn2hy 10 жыл бұрын
submariner200 Also Mexican Spanish is spoken more clearly and is better understood. For instance in Spanish TV when you have news anchors that are of Caribbean descent doing the news, their Spanish accent sounds more Mexican as opposed to when they're interviewing somebody out in the field they tend to speak more like a Puerto Rican, Cuban, or Venezuelan accent.

Tom Neal Como sabras cuando estas usando las computadoras de un establecimiento no puedes cambiar el teclado pues es un irrespeto a la propiedad ajena. Por otro lado el teclado es facil de cambiar. Lo que es imposible de cambiar son genes. El que nacio necio, necio y malcriado se queda. Oh! y ud. es con minuscula y nunca se utiliza una coma antes de algo. Tambien en tu comentario original...solo se usan tres signos de exclamacion. Y como dicen los estadounidenses "check yourself before you wreck yourself." Buen dia mi senor y mucha suerte con sus estudios de la lengua espanola porque la va a necesitar. Le recomiendo unos cursos de diversidad del lenguaje, de LINGUISTICA, de regionalismos, americanismos, dominio de la ortografia y un poco de gramatica. Y finalmente pobres de los estudiantes a los que ensenas. Pobrecitos!

Yo hablo español soy mexicano y le entendí perfectamente, i'm trying to learn english and too have differents accents for example the people from LA (chicanos) speaks different than the people in NY specificly the black people. I have a friend fromp Portland he's living in my born place and he don't speak spanish, so i learn from him and he learn spanish from me. Between A-Gon and Puig we can see good chemistry putting aside all the discussions about the languages...

Thats exactly what makes it hard to learn, cause the backbone structure of english is Germanic, but the filling loan words are of latin, romance, and gaelic origin. The rules also are highly disorganized as opposed to the structure of romance languages.

It's a different dialect of Spanish. Many different Spanish speaking countries have their own certain twist on the language. Almost like a slang. Puig is Cuban, Gonzalez is Mexican.
@jorgeponce7947
@jorgeponce7947 9 жыл бұрын
Zach Proctor You are right. The other funny thing is Puig’s choice of words in Spanish. He sounds like Cuban league team managers who must use words that are common in political speeches by government officials (e.g. ‘exhortando’= exhort and ‘companero’ = comrade). That choice of words sounds weird in the MLB context. But that take is only understood by Cubans (like me) who came recently to the US. Mexicans, Dominicans, etc might not get that nuance.

Gonzalez speaks English, so Puig was surprised to hear Gonzalez answer the question in Spanish. At 1:17, Puig tells Gonzalez "in English, dude!" but Gonzalez goes on in Spanish anyway. At 1:39, a reporter asks Gonzalez to repeat his answer in English. The look on Puig's face is an expression of "See! I told you to speak in English!" At 1:46, Gonzalez instructs Puig to translate. Puig takes a breath, mutters one syllable, but gives up rather quickly.
