I watched all of these videos before getting my wisdom teeth out because I was so nervous about the IV sedation. I got them out a week ago, and let me tell you, it was SO easy. The sedation is great and really relaxes you without making you feel weird or out of control, it just feels like going to sleep without even knowing you feel asleep. I sleep through the whole thing and felt zero pain. Recovery has been great, follow the instructions and eat some soup for a few days and you should be good. I promise you'll be fine :)

EASIEST PROCEDURE YOULL EVER HAVE. I had my wisdom teeth taken out today, two of them were impacted. I was on the verge of a panic attack I was so scared. I was given laughing gas then sedation. They put the IV in (which I barely felt due to laughing gas) and not even five minutes later I was out cold. The nurse woke me up and I swear I felt like I had closed my eyes for five minutes, even though the surgery was almost an hour. No pain at all, I was completely asleep I didn't hear or feel a thing. Not a thing, just a small prick if the IV. Guys it's not gonna hurt at all, I promise your gonna be great. I feel silly for freaking out, this was the easiest thing I've ever had done. I will tell you your gonna be sore after that numbness wears off, but take your pain pills round the clock every 4-6 hours and you'll never feel more that a sorness, no pain at all, an inconvenient sort of discomfort but that medication will keep you mellow and sleepy. Chin up, your gonna be more than good I promise ❤❤❤

ok after watching a boatload of videos I would call this one the best, many dentists wont show the procedure or they really show it, this was a great balance to allow a future patient get a feel for what will happen through the whole process. @@catchmeinthecarpoollane9417 They gave me a sleeping pill for the night before and an hour prior to the appointment, one reason to take the night before is if it does not agree with you then you can forgo the pre appointment dose and still do the procedure. Due to other commitments I did not do the night before, the pre appointment does had no effect even after another pill in the inner waiting room. When I arrived they took me to an inner waiting room had me wince with a mouth wash then use a gauze with a prep soap to wash around my mouth then sat in a massage chair in a short time they escorted me to the room, I sat in the chair, heart sensors stuck on two to the left and one opposite, a pulse oximeter finger probe left index finger. The assistant put a elastic band on my arm started an iv in the back of my right hand, not bad, an iv bag was connected usually with anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. Memory fails at this point, I think your pretty active for some of this time, I have flashes of getting out of chair and to dads car, i even took a selfie that i barely recall. I was most concerned with pain management after, follow the doc instructions and stay ahead of the pain, take a pill as soon as you get home, ice packs ect. Stool softeners counter act the tendency for pain meds to cause constipation. Make sure All your paper work is done before procedure day. Hope this helps.

👋 Anyone reading the comments about to have their surgery … let me explain my experience. ( I got them out 5 hours ago ) I WAS A NERVOUS WRECK before hand watching every video possible reading all experiences on reddit and comments on these videos from the good ones to the bad ones. I’ve been nervous since they told me last year they were coming in. It was a peice of CAKE for the people like me who have severe anxiety about medical stuff you will be just fine! I wasn’t worried about the recovery more so the surgery itself, and a little stressed about the IV ( i was put to sleep with IV sedation ) the IV was NOTHING me and the assistant were giggling and I was asking if I should watch him put it in or look away and he promised me it was nothing and maybe id enjoy watching it go in.. I looked away 😭 but it barley felt like anything, like a poke a tiny little prick. they put the thing on to check my blood pressure every 5 minutes and the thing on ur thumb along with some like patches they put on my lower side and chest. Sat there for about 30 minutes with the IV in my arm until the doctor was ready. He came in asked how I was lowered the chair down and put this thing on my neck to monitor my breathing I think he said,, and then he released THE GOOD ( the fluids into the IV ) it was a crazy experience.. like i was out but wasn’t ? all i last remember is seeing is the light and then within seconds it was done. I was so stressed for NOTHING. so glad I went with IV sedation because I didn’t feel a darn thing! 😂 and the loopyness afterwards ain’t all that bad either. I would definitely do it over again and take away all the stress from before because it was nothing.

The procedure was quick and I always see people spilling secrets or talk nonsense but I knew everything just dizzy as heck. I couldn’t stand alone. I’m having ibuprofen 800 one every six hours and amoxicillin for infection. I was on soft diet yesterday, but today I’m eating normal with a swollen face. I can barely eat cause the jaw hurts when I open. I stop bleeding since yesterday. Well this morning while brushing I bled a little. I made breakfast this morning and my boyfriend freaked out and said I shouldn’t bend my head down nor take that much heat from the stove. I feel fine though.

I have to get a root canal done next Tuesday on tooth #4. This will be my third root canal I’ve gotten. The first two were a breeze. I felt nothing. The two dentists that did the root canals were great. This third root canal that I’m getting, I’m a little nervous about because my dentist is going to do it. Every time I go to him for a filling, about half way through, I start feeling the drill. I ask him if he’s almost done because I’m feeling some pain and he says that he’s almost done and asks if I want another shot of anesthetic and I say that if he’s almost done, just finish it and I’ll just suffer through it. I don’t want to start feeling any pain with a root canal. I don’t know if he starts too quickly or if I’m just use to getting novocaine and I’ve built up somewhat of an immunity to it. Maybe I should ask him to give me a double dose of it. Something else that makes me nervous is some people that go to him have horror stories about their experiences with him. Not so much with root canals (I hope) but other work they had done. I knew someone that couldn’t open her mouth all the way for a very long time because of a mistake he did. I just hope things go smoothly for me with no problems 🙍🏼♂️.

IM CONFUSED: If even with the IV sedation that you can still feel all the painful parts, what is the point in getting it?? In 2 weeks I am due to get oral sedation with a pill I take the night before, and then an hour before procedure (Pulling a wisdom tooth, Root Canel, and a couple cavities, all along 3 teeth in order).. I didn't think the pill would do much so I am thinking of getting the IV as well as the pill. I was thinking the IV would allow me to be "loopy" that I wouldn't really understand too much what was happening and so I wouldn't necessarily react or think the same during the freezing parts, and the procedure itself, plus having to tolerate 2 1/2 hours in the chair... If I get the pill, is the IV not worth it then? (I am likely going to need to pay for it since dental coverage is likely not going to pay for it; only the pill) What am I not understanding?? Thanks
@calcaterrafamilydentistry5 жыл бұрын
We're not sure why you think you are going to feel pain. No where in the video did the patient feel pain. In IV sedation, you are brought into a twilight state, and then local anesthesia (aka novocaine) is administered. In the vast majority of cases, the patients remember nothing, and of course felt no pain (because of the novocaine and the sedation). Hope this clears up your confusion.

My dentist is proposing three administration of IV sedation, each at 15 minute intervals, for extraction of two lower wisdom teeth. He is charging me $225 for each IV sedation administration, totaling $775 for the IV sedation. Based on your video, you administer the IV sedation only once at the start of the procedure. Is that correct? Please clarify for me.
@calcaterrafamilydentistry Жыл бұрын
IV sedation and general anesthesia are typically billed in 15 minute increments. Billing begins when enough medication is administered so that the patient need to be actively monitored. This typically occurs when the first round of medications are administered. Billing ends when the patient is alert and oriented enough so that he/she no longer needs to be monitored. Thus, any quote is typically based on the duration of time that the patients is "under". It is not based on how many times medications are administered. In this video, because it was such a long case, medications were administered multiple times throughout the case.

Question. Is sedation recommended for anxiety as well as pain? I've not been to the dentist in a very long time, simply because I'm absolutely phobic. The longer I go, the worse my teeth get, and the more embarrassed I am to see a dentist, even if I would have the guts to go. I need dental care badly, but I can't break this cycle of being petrified. I wonder if sedation is something to consider. Of course, getting myself to even walk in the door would be a challenge in itself lol.
@calcaterrafamilydentistry4 жыл бұрын
IV Sedation is mostly used to reduce/eliminate the anxiety associated with the procedure. All patients are given local anesthetic (aka novocaine) - which eliminates the pain but does nothing for the anxiety with the procedure.

What is your sedation protocol at this facility? I'm curious!!! So let's say you have a 65 in 70 kg Male getting the root Canal, and Extraction. Are you using Versed, and Fentanyl? Do you monitor ETCO2 here? ETCO2 is very good monitoring device in conscious sedation.
@calcaterrafamilydentistry Жыл бұрын
Every case is different. We normally use IV midazolam and fentanyl. In most cases, the patient's weight is not a significant factor in the quantities of drug administered. We do monitor ventilations with ETCO2 - although when doing oral surgery under moderate sedation - it not as reliable as we would like.

Looks like the most amazing dentist on the planet. I’m going on for all on 4 once corona is gone in the UK and I’m so so so scared. I’m scared of feeling any buzzing or drilling into my Head but they have offered me IV sedation and hopefully they completely send me somewhere far away where I don’t feel anything. I’m absolutely terrified but my teeth are in such poor poor condition and all broken etc and I’m lucky I have the finances to afford this

I have a question ..ur videos are great. Do u take ppl from ny? Also I suffer from anxiety and when I get into the chair my anxiety goes threw the roof and my gag reflex gets strong. . So dose anxiety cause gagging? ..I need a few things done .. would you suggest iv sedation? I would like to go to ur office if insurance is taken
@calcaterrafamilydentistry4 жыл бұрын
Every patient is different, but after completing over one thousand sedations, we can say that we've helped many patients just like you. Severe anxiety can cause a gag reflex to get worse. We see people from all the states that border CT. Generally speaking, we participate with most insurance plans. But certain union plans from the NY city area as well NY state medicaid we do not participate. You are welcome to call if interested.

I thought that when you get the needle in your arm with the liquid it makes you feel no pain and if that’s true then why do you need the injections in your mouth still?
@calcaterrafamilydentistry5 жыл бұрын
The needle in the arm is the IV. The medications we administer through the IV make the patient sleepy, euphoric, and eliminate any memories of the procedure. But for this level of sedation, the IV medications do not eliminate pain completely. So we still have to get her numb. Adrianna has no memory of the numbing.

My husband had 1 wisdom tooth pulled out last week. It was no pain but I’ll tell you, when I first saw him after the procedure, he was drugged up and hallucinating, it lasted for 2 hrs. I was so scared and worried. We suspected that its a high dosage of medication that was given to him. Just be careful.

Just had mine done. Iv aint the hardpart its the after surgury thats hard. Cant eat, cant smoke, cant vape, cant chew at all espically if u got 3 or 4 done like me, cant drink alot of beverges due to acidics which cause clot to dissolve, basically cant have fun lol. Other then that i was fine and i got white coat syndrom badly. For ppl that are getting it done i know you hear this "it aint that bad" and it really aint most pain is going to come from that pad to keep mouth open and when the sed wears off but take over the counter pains and you will be fine. Im a bitch when it comes to pain sorry for language. I thought sedation aint going to do shit but it works i dont remember anything i even had to ask did i fall asleep. Last thing i remember is her putting that mouth opener in and nothing else. They woke me up and it felt like 5 minutes no lie, SEDATION WORKS WOUNDERS

There was no reason to keep her fully sedated when we transitioned from the root canal to the extractions. So we allowed her to become more alert. She was fully sedated for the root canal and then the wisdom teeth extractions.

Was the sublingual med triazolam, midazolam or something completely different? Just curious about the applied pharmacology here because I had my teeth out about 30 years ago, and I am wondering if the protocols are different, generally speaking..( I realize drs can use what they want). Was the IV med propofol? I could not see the opaque fluid... I think they gave me thiopental sodium 30 years ago... Thanks.
@calcaterrafamilydentistry2 жыл бұрын
The sublingual medication was triazolam. Sodium thiopental is almost never used anymore in outpatient dentistry/oral surgery. Most younger clinicians trained on propofol/midazolam/fentanyl.

It’s common for them to stay open when a patient goes under anesthesia; the doctor will close them, though, and tape them shut.
