I am so proud of her. It's been so awesome to watch her develop into such a gifted skater. I'm an old (over 50) Black and Indigenous skater from the 70s/80s days. I was the only girl with brown skin who dared to skate with the crew of boys I ripped with on the South side of Chicago. Always, ALWAYS wished I knew other girl skaters, especially skaters of color. I have such hope for the all the women skaters out there today. The times are so different, but there's still a LOT of work that needs to be done. Thank you for this spotlight. I hope to see her and other women skaters featured more and more for their talents at ripping and shredding -- and not so much as eye-candy on a board. There is so much amazing talent out there. Girls rip and shred...period.

People like this idiot 👆🏼, mentally enslaved to their cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias. What blm money? If they alienate all of the miserable white people who claim black people already have equal treatment in America, they're losing more views than if they just posted the best white male skaters. Black skaters would still watch, because they're accepting, and they love skating. If anything they're losing money. Not sure how you can rationalize a movement for respect for human life & human rights, with participation from all different types of people, as a terrorist movement, but that's your own internal misery to sort out. As I see it, if anyone qualifies as domestic terrorists, it's the organization consistently executing u.s. citizens in the streets and their homes....

People saying "keep politics out of skateboarding" are experiencing some selective amnesia. There have been politically outspoken skaters going back decades. Any way of life that pisses off your parents and gets cops to chase after you is going to shape your political worldview. Seriously, none of you ever drew an anarchy A on your griptape, or got a sXe tattoo? There's a reason punk, hardcore, and hip-hop music are so intertwined with the history of skateboarding.

Hmm, agree with a lot of those points but I think it's pretty ignorant to selectively surround yourself with yes men - if you echo chamber yourself you just validate each others bad ideas with the good ideas. Not sure that's exactly what she intended by saying that but yeah, I don't really like the sentiments of "oh I don't have the time to explain myself to you" or "if I find some of your views problematic I will ghost you" - it's way better in the long run to actually question peoples statements then and there so you have the context for what you view as problematic.
@lakeshoresubtleties3 жыл бұрын
You are definitely right. It's never good to surround yourself with yes men and ghost everyone who says something you don't want to hear. But you surely can't surround yourself with people who constantly question, blame, deny, and ridicule you for speaking on your own life experience. Especially when the majority of the racial demographic you belong to experiences the same things. And think about it dude. She literally doesn't have time. With 5 1/2 times more white people than black people in the U.S., and most white Americans just not understanding, and denying, what African Americans have to live with, from random people harassing them, to police, to other institutionalized obstacles. And then not only will most not believe them, many will straight out tell them they're liars. They're liars, or they're wrong, all 40+ million, about their OWN life experience. As a white person trying to give people perspective and information, it has been exhausting. Imagine having to live it AND explain it to so many people. Only to be denied your perspective, and called a liar. Would you have time, or mental energy and patience for that? No, it would ruin your life. So props to any black person who has the patience to explain anything to any white person who, probably willfully, just doesn't get it. And I totally understand if they tell them to shove it. (No pun intended.)

Thats sad that you think racism isn't real just because you dont deal with it. Whats even more sad is you don't have to experience it yourself, there's plenty of racists exposed on the internet. The “conservative” view? What view is that, decency, honesty, hard work, love of country? As opposed to the “liberal” view, degeneracy, rioting, stealing, lying, cheating and never taking responsibility for your own self or your own people?

2 questions for this piece to not seem so divisively produced, what is "stupid shit" exactly? and following that, can we get an explanation on what exactly is meant by "enlightened" when used in this context? I feel like without a proper explanation here, you are leaving people to believe that you're with her or against her and that is such a dangerous message. her skateboarding stands alone and I would prefer a piece much more about this than the confusing message this video conveys.

Well @Wes Rundle if you’re being honest with you’re confusion, I’ll say this....Did you see the brigading of “edgy teens going thru their Peterson/Shapiro phase” that happened on boo’s video? If you take a chance you’ll see how the minute the different types of skaters that are represented in skateboarding speak on themselves and speak honestly on their experiences they immediately get “you’re actually the racist for speaking about it hurumph” etc etc...It’s super exhausting to go thru that all the time...That’s why on one angle the keeping your head down and your circle tight can hurt what skateboarding actually has repped from day one but on another it’s like why even put yourself thru it cause people are either just not gonna give a fuck about your experience and keep living or they’ll grow out of it in a few years and look back with wisdom on their actions...
@wesrundle63263 жыл бұрын
@@AIJOBSFORTHEFUTURE If you cannot have a conversation with people and just say that their opinion or way of thinking is "stupid" and because they don't think you are "enlightened" what type of behavior are you to expect from that individual? Healing will not come from deflection, it comes from acceptance. I get confused when someone says "stupid shit", explain what this means further, because if its just an opinion from one of these "edgy teens" you speak of, well what's their opinion? how come it becomes invalid? This piece is the most divisive amongst the "Exchange" series because it never circles back to a positive unifying narrative which I have heard in all of them so far and I think that is an important message! This whole with me or against me feel that it shares has potential to be more destructive that it is progressive. just my 2 cents though.

Microaggressions..? Are you fucking kidding me.
@daviddarko26653 жыл бұрын
Look, we don't click on these videos to hear a KIDS perspective on politics and their "world view". It's valid and important BUT, you can't just put something like this out there and NOT give a perspective of the other side. She flat out blamed "conservatives" for the problems she sees. Wonder where she gets her information from? Does she understand WHY conservatives feel the way they do? I'm not a conservative. I understand where they are coming from and in many ways I absolutely AGREE. There are also many Liberal and Progressive ideas I am SCREAMING for! We can ALL agree to disagree. I will NEVER completely throw out everything a conservative has to say. Their points are EXTREMELY VALID. SO ARE LIBERALS, AND PROGRESSIVES. All these points of view are correct and wrong. The compromise is where the problems come into play. We ALL know the problems. Nobody can deny that. Getting these problems resolved is where everything gets screwed up. This wonderful woman has her experiences. Good or bad. She's going to view the world based on those experiences and ALSO what she is being taught. We all do that. If a deck is a Conservative (your foundation), and the trucks are Liberals (keeps you stable) and your wheels are Progressives (moving forward)........ YOU WON'T GET ANYWHERE IF THEY DON'T WORK TOGETHER. MY 2 CENTS.....not that anyone will actually listen or even care. Nope, everyone is out for themselves. There's no UNITY anymore, and I'm very sorry to say, it's not coming back. But hey..... WTF do I know right! I mean who am I? NOBODY....... ✌
@lakeshoresubtleties3 жыл бұрын
I feel you here. Generally, when i see these debates form on race relations, civil rights, equal justice, etc., the people arguing against all of it are also going on tangents screaming for trump, pro police, anti public health, pro economy, pro personal freedom with no regard for how it affects other people, pro first and second ammendment, unless it comes to assembly for black rights, immigrant rights, etc., or black people defending themselves from the tyranny of an oppressive government. So, it typically is conservatives. We, the people, are increasingly forming our own narratives places like these threads, or all over social media. You can directly see how everyone thinks and acts. The media is losing control, and we really need to fight for net neutrality before they take it back on the internet. As far as im concerned in the u.s., our far right is fascism, our right is far right extremism, our center/moderate is right to far right, our left is right, our progressive is centrist to left, and we don't even have a far left. Relative to most of the rest of the western world, this is.
