thank you! i am 19 and i am ballet beginner and i always have thoughts like: "oh what a shame i didn´t started when i was 12/13/14... now i would be on another level" but you know this is not important, it´s important that i started and maybe it is better that i started as an adult because things may be harder for me but that makes me stronger! and also every lesson is for me very special experience and i am really glad and happy for every lesson and i think that if i started earlier maybe it wouldnt be that special for me and maybe i wouldn´t enjoy it that much! and the most important thing is that i started at all!

Yes! You are so right, it is important that you took the step to start your ballet journey! It is absolutely never too late to start ballet, and you will face challenges, but it will all be part of a beautiful journey! 😘

I would have needed a video like this at the beginning of my ballet journey, when I started ballet in university and thought that because it's just a hobby course, it's not enough to get me en pointe or if so it'll take at least 5 years. But I worked hard anyway because I loved it and after a year my teacher approached me after a lesson being fascinated by my progress and asks me if I am interested in pointe. And I thought she means that we could start preparing for it without realizing my whole time doing ballet was a preparation. So when I said yes, she said, I should go to our local ballet store and get fitted so we can start whenever I have time to get my pointe shoes. And I was over the moon. Sadly after a few months we had a long summer break and I got injured so I was away from ballet for two or three months and lost a lot of strength. Then I managed to get back into it over the winter and now with the current situation and only a zoom class once a week, I feel myself losing strength again, because I barely managed to do this one class per week let alone doing more (except fot the one week I did the abc intensive). I have class in an hour now and for the first time in weeks I have time and energy to take part in it and I just feel really motivated to get back to ballet

Wow! Thanks for sharing your journey! The process of falling in love with ballet is so amazing! It’s hard work, but it is so worth it! I’m sorry to hear about your injury! Injuries are definitely not fun. I’m really glad that you joined in with the ABC Intensive and are getting back into it now! Remember to be kind to your body, that’s what I’ve learned from my past injuries - work with what you have and enjoy the process! ✨ Wishing you the best for your ballet journey!

This is so thorough, thanks for sharing Jojo! Thankful for this community you’ve spearheaded. Just nailed my chaînes en pointe this weekend for the first time since Uni days! Didn’t expect to because I’m still holding onto the barre in pirouettes.

Thank you for sharing your experience💕 it's so amazing to find other adults that have this passion for dance! You really have given me the courage to start taking classes again as an adult after doing 8 years of ballet when I was a little girl

I am doing beginner-intermediate classes 3 times a week. I originally started ballet to rehabilitate a severe meniscus tear, and two weeks into the beginner term I knew I was onto a very good thing indeed! My knee is like a new knee! Still can’t get all the way down in grand plies, but neither knee has really done much for 2.5 years. I think my feet are maybe a tiny bit stronger and more flexible than some adults my age, because I have always exercised barefoot (gymnastics, trampoline sports, martial arts). I am simply loving classes, and have a secret little desire to work towards pointe. Maybe I should make it less secret. I do not get the vibe from my fellow dancers that they are working towards pointe. As a noob to the studio I think I might keep my head down and work hard for a bit longer before chatting with my teacher.

Finding the right pointe shoes helped me heaps. I'm in Bloch Grace and I hope they don't stop making them. They are best shoes for me.
@AdultBalletCollective4 жыл бұрын
So true! I started off the in the Bloch Heritage and am now in the Grace! I absolutely love them! I actually have a comparison review of both coming up on the channel soon!
@Jennifer-vu1bg4 жыл бұрын
@@AdultBalletCollective I will look forward to seeing your comparison. I had heritage as well, but they only lasted me 1 term. Grace have been going for 2 terms and are still going. I can get more over my box, have better balance and they are more comfortable to wear. They have a harder shank but it's worth the wait to break them in.

I really like that part about the difference between experiencing ballet as a child vs an adult. I know that my body moves differently now as a disabled 26 year old vs my 16 year old self vs my 6 year old self. I have an interest in ballet but I am definitely terrified because I feel that I am too old and my healed ankle may not be good enough. I'm just waiting for the "right" moment to start but what if I wait too long and never take the plunge? I hope I do soon.
@AdultBalletCollective4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Know that you’re never too old for ballet! You know your body the best so listen to it when you are dancing! Adults definitely have a sense of maturity when it comes to dancing, sometimes it can get in way of steps that require a sense of fearlessness, however it is useful when it comes to preventing further injury! I would recommend to see a physio, a dance physio if there is one available, and talk through what you’re feeling so you can have some professional advice of where your body is at! I hope you take the plunge soon - it is truly such a special journey!

I just came back after 6 years off. I did ballet for 9 years as child/teenager. My adult body is still flexible and I still have a lot of that technique there, but my fitness is another story. I also have recently been diagnosed with arthralgia (inflammation of the joints, arthritis) which I'm taking supplements for. Causes a lot of pain. I'm also working as nurse a have rotating rosters. I did a class coming off night shifts this week and I didn't do as well cause my sleep cycle was screwed. I'm hoping to get back on pointe. My pointe shoes I had for like 8 weeks before I quit still fit but my ankles are not ready yet. I've been doing ankle strengthening every day and working out my calf muscles. I'm enjoying class, falling in love with ballet all over again and my best friend has also taken up ballet for the first time with me. Which makes class way more fun. We are 23 and I'm trying to encourage my friend as much as possible cause it is so new to her and she is watching me a lot which may be a little intimidating.

I am guy taking ballet at the community college and do you recommend yoga barre grip socks for ballet?
@AdultBalletCollective3 жыл бұрын
Hmm probably not! I don’t think the grip at the bottom of the socks would be helpful! I would recommend ballet flats or just regular socks!

I’m 14 and started ballet this year. I’m aiming To go en pointe but I only have one class a week and that’s one hour. There aren’t any other place’s where I live to get more classes. Maybe if I’m lucky and go to camp on the summer or on the holidays. Can I still become professional later? Or go en pointe in 2 years?

Hi! Thank you for sharing! How many classes a week did you take before going on pointe and then how many classes did you take after going on pointe?

I progressed to doing 3 classes a week during my first year of learning ballet! Plus additional strength work to prepare for pointe! As I mentioned in the video - once I got my pointe shoes I was actually in the process of moving states, so I didn’t get to really start my pointe journey, when I moved state then I started doing pointe at my new studio - I did 2 pointe classes a week and 3 other dance classes!

How often did you work with your teacher per week?

I was doing around 3 classes per week and a lot of my own specific strength and conditioning to prepare my body for pointe!
