Now my collection is out of control with Star Wars (almost all of them since the beginning), Iron Man, Bat Mobiles, NASA, the bigger cars, and the Botanicals. Building a new set is my Happy Place. My granddaughter knows the difference between Papa's LEGOs and her LEGOs. She helps me build a ship and we fly it around the house then put it on a shelf, then we build her princess castle or Spiderman set and fight the villains.

I am a 22 year old man, I turn 23 this year as well. My reason for loving LEGO so much is because I get to play with them and create my own stories. I would even write down how I would want the story to go, and it makes me really happy. When I have a short amount of time to play with my LEGO I just pull out a few minifigs and just play for a bit, but whenever I have a lot of time, I pull out some sets and just go crazy and create a elaborate story with lore lol. As someone who has come to terms with loving certain hobbies and enjoying whatever I do without carrying who judges me, it can get a a little exhausting hearing the same things repeated such as "arent you too old to play with toys?" or "That's really weird as an adult" etc... I just try to move on but sometimes it does get to me. Yes I have a job and I go to college full time and I have many bills like everyone else does, but I feel that people ignore that part of me and just see the me playing with LEGO and it makes people go away from me. It has happened quiet often where I would meet new people and I would mention how I love LEGO, and they automatically just think its weird, but when I get home from those terrible outings I pull out my LEGO and I start playing with them and it really just boost my mood because even though many people will leave me I just know that my LEGOs will always be there for me.

I can honestly say that at 54 I play with Lego almost exactly the same way I used to do when I was 10.. but the thing is that for me it was always the design and creative building that appealed to me. When I was a kid I would swoosh things I'd built but only for a minute, then it was on to redesigning and "improving" the model with some features of my own devising. Me and my best friend used to buy the same models and then informally compete with the best mods and with best I mean craziest.

The recent Dune ornithopter is a set that's specifically designed as a playset for adults. It is too heavy and too big to be comfortably held by most children, but the size of the tail, the intended handle, is strangely ergonomically perfect for adult hand, and it places most control mechanisms within reach. I love playing with mine, picking it up, flapping the wings a bit, it's a great stress reliever.
@xhearthfirex657110 ай бұрын
Well that’s the reason i hate the set. I wanted a display only piece. There are too many red and blue pins and a lot of exposed Technic to make the wings move. I view LEGO different. I like having something to do that doesn't involve a screen for a change. It lets me do something else with my hands rather than hold a controller or use a keyboard. Of course there are other hobbies that allow this, I've always liked Tabletop battle games like Warhammer but being dyspraxic I find precise fine motor skills like gluing and painting a small (and expensive) plastic figure very difficult. I know whatever I finish with will not even look as half as good as what is on the box art. Lego on the other hand is simple with great instructions and it is always going to look great when you finish. There is no price for a mistake as everything can be dissasembled and reassembled. Once I'm done I like messing about and taking pictures. With the Lego castle I besieged it with all the pink frogs I got from the alternate build of the bonsai tree and had the knights fighting them off from the battlements. I used the all pink minifig from the Everyone is Awesome set as the leader of the pink frog horde. Currently thinking of what they can battle next...

Sorry for making this sad right out of the gate, but it really ties into my reason. I’m 45, and 7 years ago my wife died. I picked Lego back up as a way to distract myself and, yes, to reconnect with my inner kid. But what I want to tell those who read this, is more important. It led to me giving exactly zero….let’s say ‘hoots’ about what other people think about me and my hobbies. Yes, you’ll meet people who think it’s infantile. But what my wife taught me is that life is literally too short to spend even a second worrying about that. Please do what makes you happy and excuse yourself from the fake obligation of justifying it to others.

I had a short dark age as a late teen (sold my lego) and early twenties (studies). At age 22 I started collecting and playing Pokémon TCG. Met my pokémon-loving now-wife, and she loved collecting and playing with My Little Pony. And loved Nintendo and introduced me to Mario, Zelda, Kirby etc. I picked up Lego in 2022 and bought everything Star Wars and Classic Space. Then onto the modulars and “adult” sets. My wife enjoys (building) lego as well, as do my children. Nobody is above swooshing a space ship. Why would you (need to) lose the ability to play? Most of my friends are into boardgames or Lego. They’re not judgemental at all about playing. My family (parents, siblings) kinda are. They’ve asked me hundreds of times “why don’t you sell -insert collection-“, because that’s what they would do, since they don’t understand. I always avoid talking about it, sunce it’s always a “waste of money”. In the living room, I just have a bunch of modular building and spme adults sets. When people come over and ask, I just tell them I love Lego, and they’re like “oh that’s cool”. Lego was a toy for children before the mid ‘80s, then expanded to teens (with expert sets and technic), then had a dark age in the late 90s (junior sets, bad themes), then started making sets for both children, teens ánd adult nerds from the early ‘00s (Star Wars, large sets, architecture etc) and now, early ‘20s, they’re expanding to “normal” adults. With sets like the typewriter, art sets, and especially the botanicals. Just yesterday, at the mall, I saw advertsing for a Lego flowers set, aimed at adults (give flowers you can build together). This would’ve been absurd decades ago. Lego is becoming a sonewhat normal hobby for adults.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” ― C.S. Lewis

I love the building process and seeing shadow form, and techniques used to make some really odd shapes. I love putting together an amorphous blob of bricks and then finally realizing what it's becoming. Knowing what the end product is going to be; knowing what my efforts are going towards reduces anxiety and registers in my as an achievable goal. And I love knowing that when it's finished, I touched and placed every single brick, giving me an odd, enhanced sense of ownership. I love planning on how and where I'll display them. I love that every time I look at them, each one gives me its own unique boost of dopamine. I love when someone is over and is really taken aback by what they're seeing, that it's Lego, and the wonder on their face. I love being a man in his 40's and openly talking about Lego as a hobby, people giving me the side-eye about it, I show them, and they almost immediately one-eighty and understand why people dig them so much (many will also see something and say that they'd like to have one). I love that a small, but well thought-out Lego set makes an amazing and impactful gift to an adult that doesn't do Lego. (Try it some time. Get a small set, under $30 is a good price, that's meaningful to the person in some way, and just watch what happens. ❤ ) Now, why do I buy the ones I buy? They make me happy. And, for me, it doesn't matter why. 😊

I do not typically "play" with any of my LEGO as a kid would, but rather take apart sets I have acquired and rebuild into different MOCs.

I’m 37 and still enjoy building and playing Lego! The best part is having Lego battles with my kids, we’ll set up epic battles in the basement like Star Wars vs Ninjago, it’s so much fun.

As someone who's terminally online, Lego is a line way for we to log off and relax while still doing something engaging. That and a nice hit of nostalgia.

I've always had a very active imagination and creative drive, so me rediscovering Lego as an adult has been a blast. I enjoy writing stories or creating worlds/settings and then creating scenes, characters and locations from those. I just love that type of activity and figuring out the best way to build and showcase those things.

i’m 19 going on 20 and have built lego my whole life, when people ask me i say well i’ve liked it since i was a kid, i love playing with an army of clone troopers and having them fight the droid army, displaying them on a battlefield or placing them in fighters and flying them around, it’s just good fun

I’m 20, the most fun thing I do is set up old scenes from movies and shows like the Clone Wars then admiring the scene for awhile. I also like them on my display shelves. The quality in Lego has bothered me with a few false advertising errors and low quality mini figs. The UCS Captain Rex from the Venator is exceptionally bad, no one can lie. And stop saying that the new helmet holes are ok. They are out of place, they make the rangefinders look horrible, and the helmets are misshapen with them. If anything, change the visor molds and binocular molds so you aren’t ruining the look of the whole figure. And No, printed waist capes and printed pauldrons don’t look good.

When I was much younger, in the 70/80''s, I had lots of bricks but don't remember it actually coming in any sets. So pretty much everything I built was a product of my own imagination. I started buying Technic sets recently (mostly cars). I really enjoy the building but I'm not bothered about displaying or playing with them. (I hate the stickers too, as they seem wrong). It just gives me something productiive to do in the evenings. My mum used to love doing jigsaws and it's pretty much the same thing.

1 I love the universes they depict (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Christmas collections) 2 They are often colorful and beautiful (floral collections and the medieval forge, for example) 3 Assembling them is a meditative, submersive, thoughtful and relaxing activity 4 I've always had a collector's itch for things I enjoy 5 Their little faces are happy and make you feel good 😂😊 I don't give a **** about what other people think. When you see how messed up the world is, how corrupt, how violent, how petty and jealous, how mixed-up, how many people are willing to vote a dictator into power, how many people believe in invisible gods and other such nonsense... you have to wonder why you would care about what these people think.

I used to play with LEGO with my friends as a kid... it was the best, after a few hours building whatever we imagined, we'd then get to make up whole stories around them and feel like we'd gone on a whole adventure. Then one day they decided playing with LEGO that way was too childish and made them uncomfortable, and that was the moment my favorite memories of childhood ended as I was the last of them to stop wanting to do that. They're all in their dark ages now, but I never stopped collecting and building with LEGO, and still do so as an adult. It amuses me that as adults we have to justify creative play by calling it something else. Instead of playing pretend, we establish rules and make it a roleplaying game so it feels more serious. What are we so afraid of? In the end it's the same thing. But, I digress. Nowadays building with LEGO and revisiting LEGO themes from my childhood reminds me of the raw imaginative energy of childhood, and I feel like it keeps my creativity alive. I've always been more interested in what I could create on my own than what the instructions tell you to build anyway.

I rediscovered Lego in my 50s. I have no kids, lots of disposable income, and seem to be addicted to 'clicking'. Like others have said, I have various elements of ASD that leave me unfulfilled during forced socialization. Only problem I'm having is...where to put all this stuff!! There's some catharsis and stress relief involved in knowing the final product will be perfect (everything in its place).

I am 35 year old engineer and I'm not the only Lego and Star Wars fan in that engineering firm. When some of my colleagues came to see my new apartment they gifted me several Star Wars themed mugs, socks, Star Wars logo light, doormat and other stuff. Then they went on to play with my lego sets and lightsabers. Now we also have several Lego flowers and other nerd stuff in the office. We're quite good at our job too :D

For me, it gives me joy being able to buy these expensive toys with huge boxes now when we weren’t well off enough to buy me many toys when I was a kid. One core memory I have was when I wanted a $40 Godzilla toy back when we watched the first American Godzilla movie. My parents fought because one wanted to buy it for me but we didn’t really have the budget for it. I still feel kinda guilty spending money on what many feel like it’s a “waste” but hey, YOLO right.

For me there are multiple reasons. Building is relaxing and helps a great deal with my PTS. Building also holds core memories from when I was a kid and building now brings those memories back. My wife just watches me and my daughter has her own collection.

A Lego set you want to fly around has high “swooshability”. It all depends on what sort of collector you are. I like certain sets but, I really love the pieces and figures. I tend to buy secondhand bulk lots to sort and eventually get into MOCs. Collecting certain parts in all colours is really fun for me.

I’ve been in the military for about 2 years and most people that I’ve told that I build LEGOs also build LEGOs. And it has always made me not feel alone as an adult buying a “tot for kids” when the marketing is obviously towards us who grew up on it in the early 2000s.

I’m nearly 60, I build Lego simply for the enjoyment of building. It relaxes me after a stressful day at work and it like therapy to me. After I get to many sets I turn around and sell them and yes, I use that money to buy more sets.

I'd always get nervous talking about it with my friends even if they don't care that I collect and what not. Overtime as I've grown older and collected more and got more accepting of it, I've been able to be more open about. Like you and having turned 20 it's slowly become a nice escape back to when I was a kid especially since I've been getting stuff I remember wanting as a kid

I'm a 90s kid and I grew up with the insectoids sets and a ninja sets and those hold so many great memories for me. I still have those and now that I'm older and have my own money I've been getting Star Wars sets. My friends don't judge and I even have a friend who is my age (I am 34) who also collects Legos. We talk about how relaxing it is and they look amazing on display. I sometimes play with them and like to recreate some Clone Wars battles and I'm excited for new Star Wars sets this year. The older I am that better I understand not to care what other people think and just do what makes me happy and Legos definitely makes me take a time machine back to being a kid.

Great video man, really spoke to me! I’ve been playing with my old legos again and buying new sets as well. I’ve created a whole world and story with 30+ different characters and it’s such a great creative outlet, really helps me escape for a bit from the worries and troubles of my life. My dad has become homeless this last year and I think that’s what’s caused me to look for different ways to occupy myself. It’s also important to mention that I too feel super insecure about playing with my legos but I think what makes things easier is that I have a girlfriend who I live with who doesn’t judge me at all. She even asks about any updates to the story going on in my Lego world, and of course I tell her all about it.

My goal as an adult is to display castle/pirate sets in a way that stimulates the imagination. As a kid i had time to "play" by acting out full battles and stories. But now, i can do much that in my mind just by looking at the set

Honestly I didn’t really have much of a child hood from the time I was 8 I lost my father so collecting legos and having them on display brings out the inner child in me and brings me joy I usually only collect Star Wars because I’ve grown up with something about building your own set just brings me joy

Why do I like Lego? because I like to build things. Plastic model kits only let you build it once. Lego is better because I can take it apart and eventually build it again.

I don't think that trying to experience my Childhood again is the reason I build LEGO again. I've had a time where I was occupied with other things and didn't get Sets for years. My Family frowned upon the idea of gifting LEGO to me like they used to. I also wasn't having as much fun with them. I believe I one day got into the lego KZbin space. I remembered how fun it was and since I earned money, had time and Space. I looked around and saw what cool things they have and decided to buy some. I remember asking myself why I stopped collecting because I had so much fun.

Modeling with a constrained set of pieces is engrossing, it's somewhere on the continuum between building models with matchsticks and building models with blender and a resin printer.

I got back into building some sets as an adult, but mostly because: 1. I can now afford it. 2. You have access to alternative sources than just the LEGO brand at much more reasonable prices. 3. Sets are much better than they used to be. I'm very impressed in what can be done with technic legos. I'm especially interested in cars or vehicles and while there was some in the 90s, it wasn't anywhere near as good.
