This is so awesome! Not that I don’t love Diesel engines, but do you know how absolutely huge a 1MW rated diesel generator is?! They’re massive.
@BullsMahunny4 жыл бұрын
And the noise and vibration. While Diesel generators are cheaper they are far more noisy. Turbine engines are only really noisy when you're right up on them but when you get any kind of distance away it's just a low whine or a hum. And there's no vibration making them great to store in underground or other locations in a building as emergency generators without having to worry about a vibrating diesel generator disrupting things.

@@SeaNsEAn1972That is technically true but a bit misleading. If you are growing something that is highly efficient at consuming CO2 from the atmosphere, like algae for example, then the total amount of co2 in the atmosphere can stay relatively the same. When you dig hydrocarbons out of the ground and burn them, you are adding co2 that had been sequestered underground some millions of years ago.

@danburch9989 Жыл бұрын
Based upon a PT6 turboprop airplane, the power turbine turns at about 30,000 rpm. Through a gear reduction, the propeller spins at about 2,000 rpm. That might give an idea as to the trubine speed vs altenator speed reduction of about 15:1

@joelvoss1226 ummm, no. Gas turbine fuel economy is terrible. Less than half as efficient as a similar sized diesel unless you have regeneration. I used to operate 2.0 mW gas turbines powered by an Allison 501K (T56) which burned 240 gallons of fuel at full load. And almost 100 gallons an hour at NO load. You don't buy them because of good fuel economy. You buy them for being compact, easily transportable, quick set up and operation in an emergency.

I have a 3kw, diesel, electric start, 240 volt unit, that uses 5 to 7 gallons of fuel per day. It loves running 2 5000 btu ac units and all my lights, refridgator, exc. I paid $500 on craigslist.

@@gregorymalchuk272 well, you have to use a bit of load management. You cant run the well pump with both ACs on. Other than that I can run my whole 3000sq ft home on the 3kw unit. It is a 36000 rpm aircooled diesel, a powrgardr 30d36r. Fuel use is about .15-.2 gal per hour or .3 gal per hour at max load. The thing is, it is never at full load more than a few min out of each hour. I use 5 gallons per day during a outage. Plus, I can use just about any oil if its properly filtered. No so with propane.

1MW will supply around 750 average American homes. So you're probably looking at around 1,000 RVs.
@brianmorrison90665 жыл бұрын
Yes, you'd be getting 50 watts per person, exactly, at full capacity. That's not much. I dont know how you would distribute it or at what voltage or how far. There would the losses. I would say 30 watts per person to be safe. A 5000 btu ac uses continuously 700 watts and may need 2000 watts upon startup.

How does the fuel economy compared to the 1MW normal diesel generator?

Fuel economy, but it's red and shiny and has lots of buttons and stuff! Turbines are not known for fuel economy, but it is very compact and easily moved around. A 1MW diesel engine would use around 180 litres per hour, roughly. This turbine would be somewhere around 400 - 500 litres. per hour.

The only time I can forsee the noise pollution not being an issue would be in a natural disaster type situation. If a customer needed this because of their own emergency or loss of power the EPA would be all over you. Great product and I like the output power vs size of the machine.
@louismessere637913 күн бұрын
You know the epa won't say anything if you connect it to natural gas. The only by product is heat noise electricity and water. I'd love to own a smaller version of this. Say 100 kw. I'll have to put some heavy duty mufflers on it to reduce the pitch a bit but I'll still keep the sound. I'm hoping my neighbors will enjoy the sound as well, well even if they don't enjoy it I hope they will tolerate it if I share some power with them. Lol.

That's awesome, but, can it be made to operate quieter with the exhaust noise?
@fcguy277810 жыл бұрын
it's emergency power generation - noise it not generally a factor. Not to mention turbines are inherently loud. The whole purpose of this thing is to be lightweight/mobile for rapid deployment where it is needed. Adding some sort of giant exhaust system to quite it down (like in a turbine found on military ships) would add a great deal of volume and quite a bit of mass - not practical and, as mentioned, not really needed.
@johnpekkala694110 жыл бұрын
Cool machine indeed however being as loud as a fighter jet the placement of the unit can be a problem unless you give earplugs to all in the area close to the generator.
