Another old timer, went to Advance Camp at Ft. Bragg in 1983, loved the experience. I was prior service when I entered ROTC. I went to the camp in exceptional physical conditioning, very motivated. NO cell phones or social media back then so didn't have to worry about that, could solely concentrate on excelling. Finished in the top 10% and became a DMS and Distinguished Military Graduate. When I was in ROTC, I also joined the SMP or simultaneous Membership Program which is like an internship program with an Amy Reserve Unit. Everything about ROTC esp Advance Camp was amazing. I wish you the best in your military career.

I went to Advanced Camp at Ft. Lewis back in 1990. No prior service, but I went to Basic Camp at Ft. Knox in 1989. I thought “Hmm, that wasn’t so bad. Sure, I’ll sign up…” Well, Advanced Camp was much harder and a real eye opener. Things definitely look and sound like they have changed over the years. It’s a good video though of the basics of what to expect. I do remember lots of FTX time, with heavy focus on Ranger/Patrolling tasks, (I still have my original Ranger Handbook) to include being awake and patrolling for 37 hours on the final FTX and ruck march. I ended up going Warrant and Aviation, but overall, it was great training and a lot of lessons have stuck with me. Advanced Camp was the toughest physical and mental challenge of my Army career. Gear tip (from an MS4 ahead of my class): Take a good, stiff scrubbing brush to use whenever you wash your gear. It’s great for getting caked-on dirt off. Each Platoon only was issued 4, so my extra one came in very handy, and your Squad-mates will become your best friends. 😂 I still have and use that brush.

Old timer here; went through Camp in 1989 (4th Cycle/17th Cavalry) at FT Bragg! The format for us was different. Basically they picked us up from the airport, we in-processed for a few days then gradually transitioned from a garrison setting to field work/FTX then 1-2 days of out-processing and graduation. I kind of like this CST thing. We didn't have that and were a disorganized hot mess above squad level and even there got ourselves together in the final 7-10 days. The networking pointer is great too. You'll definitely run across Camp classmates in the future and being in touch with them would be quite helpful!

@melendaallen29542 жыл бұрын
Hi! I went 2021 first reg and commissioned in May. I too am a short female! So for the TMC I went once and was very pleasantly surprised how easy it was. At first formation they will ask who needs to go to sick call, you will get in a van and go to the TMC. If it is something drastic they will take you to the local hospital and you will be taken care of. As far as rucking, there is only one graded ruck (the 6 mile) and only one time they will weigh your ruck. During the period before the 8 mile they will give you the chance to downgrade your ruck to “35lbs” they will not weigh your ruck before or after that. Make your ruck look big but keep it light. Same for the 12 mile. I hope this helps!!

@WowzaMemes2 жыл бұрын
@@Therealc_hill 1st reg this summer, I'm a little more so nervous because people say 1st reg is the hardest as cadets are guinea pigs for the later reg's. Physically I'm in great shape, our program rucks 1-2 times a week so my feet are conditioned. I've passed a few landnav courses in my time however i've never qualified with an m4 or done anything like CFF or repelling.
@Therealc_hill2 жыл бұрын
@@WowzaMemes The good news is there will be a block of instruction before you do anything. They don't expect everyone to know everything, that's why they teach you before testing you. You'll be fine, the cadre will be more than willing to help you improve some weak areas and so will your peers. Have a humble attitude and go in listening more than anything else, you got this!
@hermance45372 жыл бұрын
Is it similar to basic training where the only way you can fail is if you quit? Also what happens if you can’t landnav for shit 😂😂
@Therealc_hill2 жыл бұрын
No one in my platoon failed camp. However, we did have a few recycled cadets added to our platoon. The difference here is you are competing for your job, unlike basic. As far as land nav, you will have retest opportunities. If you can't pass land nav it's up to a board to determine next steps, so my advice is "do not get in any trouble or rack up a lot of negative spot reports." You're going to kill it out there, especially since you went through BCT. I hope this helped.
@plasmahandoku10732 жыл бұрын
It's funny being my piers told me it's either a pass or fail but when the Cadre's cleared things up to relieve pressure it brought a lot of ease. But yea from what I'm told about CST is, you will pass no matter what. Like basic it's made to make you pass. Biggest difference is your competing against each other for OML points for your job. They will actually give you the answer etc and if you can't pass the retest you get recycled. Depending on what Reg you are in, being I think 1-11? You will just go up the ladder from 1st reg to 2nd etc etc until the last reg. Though it really depends.
