One way that I have found to prevent a lot of signal error problems related to switches where tracks merge is to put signals right before and right after the switch so that the switch itself is a block.

That is a fantastic tip that I sort of alluded to once with one switch I placed, but never said. Thank you for bringing that up! I do that often too, especially in busy areas!🙂

You literally went over an issue with the path signals I was just having. Lol. I really enjoy how you draw out the blocks, paths and signals and use different colors for visualization. I'm a very visual learner and your detailed explanations has really helped. Thank you! I'm excited to see your round-a-bout (however you spell it) video.

Glad it helped! I can often require a visual explanation too, but many times it simply reinforces what you are hearing. Awesome that it gave you exactly what you needed in this case! Thanks for the comment! 🙂

Thank you so much for this! Especially the part about signal loop errors. Turns out i also had a non-functional switch, was going crazy trying to figure out why it wouldn't work when the exact same configuration worked on every other station i built.

All the video but expecially (for me) the part from 6.30 is pure gold, indeed, the sign looping on itself is usually a guarantee headache, you really explain in simple words how the block signals works, checking all the ends of the railroad sign blocks and not just what the arrow try to suggest, finally in a very easy way to understand. Really thank you, this is something i will always remember when i'm dealing with block signs. Huge Thanks. 😃

Bottom line up front. OUTSTANDING!. Now for the rest of the story. Train buff here. Working on a model railroad at our clubhouse. Planning out fully automated traincontrol in the future for a 3,600sf N Scale layout with over 250 turnouts.... So block control is not a foreign subject. Fast forward to beginning trains in Frustrufactory.... Got the loop back error, couldn't figure it out, ripped it all out and went to trucks.... Man do I wish I had seen this first. Going back to trains now. THANKS for the video.

Hey awesome! Model railroad fan myself with a grand or more worth of gear! (Well just a fan of trains in general. LOL) I don't have a club, but had an 8x10 that I built up to track work before it had to come down. Now I have DCC, but no layout. ☹ Anyways, thanks for the great comment, and glad the video helped! You'll have to do some content on the RL Club layout for us, and link it for me! Would love to check it out! Thanks again! 😀👍

One thing that was driving me nuts was this (taken from the wiki); Error: Signal loops into itself "This error means the signal failed to divide a block, even when no loops are present. It can occur when, for example, two unconnected tracks are too close to each other and a signal is placed on one of them." Not one of any of the guides ever mentioned it and I placed my signals the exakt same way, moved my rail a bit and suddenly everything started to work.

Even though I don't have any complicated railways set up (yet) this was super informative and clear. Thank you for taking the time to edit and put this together! I'm still trying to wrap my head around the different between the Block and Path signals, but I figure I'll delve deeper into it when I believe a railway requires it. (Right now I'm just using Block signals for enforcing track sections and directions).

I found the logic that helped me is that every block you place sends a signal, that signal bounces off other posts once in every direction. It can not hit itself in the back within that one bounce. If that makes sense.
@Parkinwad2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely makes sense. 🙂👍 A block can't end on itself. Great analogy/explanation.

Signals looping onto themselves has driven me crazy a couple of times. It's especially dreadful when you are just learning how signals work and then unexpected stuff like this happens 😄

Hi buddy, thanks for sharing this information and making this video. Have you experience signaling with turbine exchange intersections? i seem to not be able to figure out the best way to signal for it.
@Parkinwad2 жыл бұрын
I don't have any direct experience with them, but the general rule applies: path signal in, block signal out. Path signals can be used internally I believe, but I would have to look up the turbine again to see if there is even a need for any internal signals to help with flow. I get the feeling you don't need internal signals on a turbine though. Thanks for the great question and comment!😀👍

Oh man, I almost pulled my hair out because of this signal issue. I have done this a thousand times, so what's wrong? Now I realized some tracks are not connected correctly. ALWAYS check if there's a switch at a split, hopefully I won't forget this time lol.
@Parkinwad Жыл бұрын
Best thing to do I found is to run a locomotive manually through the switch in both (or all if you split into 3) directions to ensure physical connection! 😀👍 Thanks for the comment!

That's funny! Everyone will have different levels of interest in the level of difficulty they will want to explore. Some people will never build turbo motors for example. But it's a game to have fun with, so relax, and do just that. You may find plenty of enjoyment in a basic back and forth rail system for one factory, but don't let trains ruin your experience if you have no interest or time to put into them! The truth is that you are right; we aren't required to use them! 😆 Thanks for the comment, and have a "Satisfactory" day! 😉

finally getting around to updating my train lines... is it possible/smart to just use pathing signals, or should there be a mix of path and block?
@Parkinwad2 жыл бұрын
Path signals have a very few specific use cases. The way they work, if you over use them, you can end up slowing trains in areas where you don't need path signals. For that reason, my recommendation is to stick with path signals only at complex intersections. Basically, two tracks going to one is not a path signal use case. And multiple path signals along a straight section of track would reserve the whole section of track between the path signals rendering the throughput minimal along that section of track. Hope that helps. 😉
