I have worked in many rooms with many great colorists for many years... you're ability to explain and show ans simplify is the most effective I have seen. Really appreciate your time taking on subtleties and creating perfection. I am using many techniques you have taught me and feel I have never been capable of this level of work before. Thank you.

it helps so much that you include the commands on screen. that’s something I’d always wished for when watching this type of content. after watching you address certain things as mistakes in other videos, I realized most people that I learned from in the past demonstrated these mistakes so now I exclusively watch your videos and Jakes videos for color grading. thank you so much for this! I learned a lot 😃

@MrSindriSvan
@MrSindriSvan 2 жыл бұрын
For those wondering about what's happening in the Halation part: He dials the Dye Layer(sounds like 'Dilator' in the video) down to nearly zero and then brings them back up, and increasing the spread. For some reason it doesn't come on screen - I believe that's it! Great tutorial as always!

Thanks for the information, I also wondered what he was doing there! :) But where is the setting for the dye layer?
@MrSindriSvan
@MrSindriSvan 2 жыл бұрын
@@jxli3849 @JXLI Look at the video or take a look at Halation in Davinci Resolve. It's just a part of the Halation panel. See Dye Layer Reflections -> Strength.

I watch every video with interest and learn the most from your videos. I'm interested to see how things work with low quality videos, for example a video from MavicPro 1 or a GoPro, I know they are not in the movie world, but it will still be an experience for us beginners to learn to color better. Thanks and good luck in the future

Qazi, question that you've probably answered on another video? why do you sometimes add CST first and in other videos add it pre-Lut near the end? Very curious about the proper workflow.

you're just giving so much knowledge out just like that... amazing channel!! may I ask: do you see a video on unrealistic (surrealistic) coloring happening soon? (I mean purple trees, red skies, yellow seas, well those would be extreme kitchy examples, just to make my question a bit more clear, but I mean anything from really subtle unrealistic tweaks to controlled yet massive changes)

Hey Qazi, Love your work. I think I am having some issues with understanding what I am looking at and how to see what I am looking at and get to what I am looking for. Half the time, I just play around and get to something decent. Understanding what the waveforms are telling me and what I need to do to get there is probably 85% of what is missing. If your course goes over that, I would 100000000% buy it.

When working in Wide Gamut is it still acceptable to use the Kodak 2383 LUT? I know its meant for a rec709 color space so it would require a 3 node setup. I'm just wondering if its mathematically sound to crush the color space and then re-expand it to get the LUT to work with the node setup bellow. 1st Node - CST coverting WG to rec709/cineon 2nd Node - Apply Kodak 2383 LUT 3rd Node - CST converting rec709 back to WG
@LinusKVisuals
@LinusKVisuals 2 жыл бұрын
It‘s been months. Have you figured out a right answer ? In my opinion you shouldnt convert it back up after you crushed it.
@AaronandTaylor
@AaronandTaylor 2 жыл бұрын
@@LinusKVisuals Messing around I've found it easier to have an inverted color space setup to what I mentioned above. Meaning I will keep my timeline color space in rec 709. Then 1st node is a CST that converts 709 to DWG > 2nd node color adjustments (insert as many nodes as you need) > 3rd node CST from DWG to Cineon > 4rth node Film LUT. Seems to solve all my problems. EDIT: To avoid crushing down like you said it might be easier to take the CST input of the first node and set it to whatever you filmed with and bypass resolves color management which would require that the input be rec 709. So your color space "flow" would look something like "LOG>DWG>Cineon>REC709"
@LinusKVisuals
@LinusKVisuals 2 жыл бұрын
@@AaronandTaylor thank you very much for that quick and detailed answer! Ya that totally makes sense. Didn't work with DWG yet i have been trying out the aces workflow but i seem to like working with "normal" color space transform nodes more.

Nice work Qazi as usual but i just realized that the thing with which i'm struggling and gets me annoyed, i thought it was my camera, i see that it happens to you as well. When you use CST look at the blue on the guy's shirt. The second you punch in Rec 709 the blue gets to be such a crazy looking color ... I thought it was because my Sony A7 III shots 8 Bit and w/e ... but nope, i see the same problem to you as well. I usually check the color compression tab in CST to mitigate a bit the problem but some colors like red and blue still go overboard with CST for me.

Perfectly setup and filmed footage like this doesn't even need nothing. In your freelance lifetime you will get footage like this maybe about three times and that's about it. Two times out of those three times footage has turned out to be perfect like that by sheer accident cause circumstances have aligned. Rest of the time you will be getting 8bit crap off iPhones, camcoders and some old and forgotten Canon or Nikon shot on full auto. If it was not full auto then it has issues with exposure, noise, focus and other stuff they expect you to pick up and clean up in the post.

Do you have a step-by-step color correcting course for beginners? I’m learning Davinci Resolve as I want my knowledge base to be built on a platform that professional colorists are known to use. Currently, I shoot corporate videos and have no need to apply any cinematic grading any work I do, but I want accurate colors and contrast that take full advantage of my cameras (BMPCC 4K and Canon C200) dynamic range and is ready for broadcast. Any playlist or courses for purchase you have that will help me achieve my goal would be greatly appreciated.
