@monicalevyt5 жыл бұрын
I did not get it. Make do means do something?
@leomo81055 жыл бұрын
@@monicalevyt No. Make do means "manage or live with the limited things that are available to you at the moment". For example, if you wanted to buy new clothes for a party but the money wasn't enough. You will say, I didn't have enough money for new clothes so I "MADE DO" with the clothes that I already have at home. That means after you were unable to buy new clothes, you went back to your normal clothes at home and tried to find something you could wear or suitable for the party.

The expressions with do are probably the most useful thing I have ever listen to. Hope in a video about the "genitive / of / noun + noun" because I can't find a general rule for ". I have read 2 explanations: 1) feet's doesn't work because sounds like "feets". This cannot be a grammar (=general) rule. 2) noun + noun works with "common kinds of things" ..... ????? EDIT: just read about a book written by Anette Rosenbach: 350 pages about the possessive case. That's why I have never found a "global" rule 😅.

In some parts of the US, and I think Canada, and maybe other places, they omit “with” in sentences like this one: “I’m done with homework for the night,” and instead just say “I’m done homework for the night.” I first heard it when I moved from Kansas (where we never do that) to Wisconsin (where some do)

1) I think I did well in my last test. (I can use "well" too, can't I?) 2) As I live in Russia, there are several chains of fast food cafes, where they do pancakes. My example: - I don't know how to use these expressions! - Yes, you do! And I know one more example of using "do", that wasn't in the video. An indecent one. When someone says "do me" it means he or she is eerm... being naughty. I heard it in the Internet and in Michael Jackson's song: "...do me, sew me..".
