The UK Driving Test includes the option of forward and reverse bay parking, but this is often done in a quiet car park where there is plenty of space. After passing their test, new drivers find that in reality car parks can be very busy places, with many other hazards present to make it much more difficult to safely park their car. In this video, we will visit 3 different car parks and practice bay parking in real-life conditions, whilst sharing a few tips to help new drivers.

* 4:32 Car Park 2: Multi-Storey

It’s very helpful. Real life parking is so different than parking in the test. New drivers like myself still need lots of parking practice in all sorts of situations to park confidently and efficiently

Yeah I think on later driving lessons they should teach parking in busy car parks. It’s a shock when you start doing it by yourself but we practice and patience it gets easier.

I struggle to reverse park. However I have got braver and started going up the next floor in the multistorey at work. An automatic reduced the anxiety so much.

As always, excellent video from you. I genuinely feel you are by far and away the best UK channel for driving advice. One small point - in the section for the multi-storey car park, there are several sets of clear "mandatory" signs on entry showing a 5 mph speed limit...and yet I see your instructor car routinely exceed that limit, as shown on the digital dash. Yes I know - car speedometers are not accurate unless based on GPS but if you are knowingly recording a driving instruction video for all to see and with the speed clearly shown, might as well show the car being driven at an indicated speed that is within the posted limit rather than exceeding it. I think many drivers feel that the general rules of the road somehow don't apply in car parks - things like signalling, one way aisles, give way / stop lines, proper road positioning...and of course, speed limits! One thing that wasn't covered here and I feel would have been extremely useful - The situation that can often arise whereby you have the opportunity to drive forwards through an empty "double row" and park in the "forward" row. In this way, you get the same benefit as reversing into a space (in other words, ready to leave the space by driving out forwards) but without actually having to reverse into the space (especially if you have following traffic)...as well as avoiding the usual disadvantage when driving forwards into a single row space and having to reverse out. Of all the possible parking choices in a car park, the "forwards through a double row" option has to be by far and away the most favourable whenever it presents itself. Also, a section on angled bay car parks. For example, how to approach and park in an angled bay space that is on the opposite side of the street / aisle and is it OK to reverse into an angled bay when the angle is set up to drive in forwards. Plus a section on how to safely emerge from such bays. (Perhaps having our signal on as we reverse out of an angled bay to compliment our reversing lights and maybe even flashing the brake lights a few times?) Perhaps also a mention of leaving the car parked in forward or reverse gear (depending on whether there is a slope but also on even ground) etc. Again, I still feel your videos are of an exceptionally high standard and vastly superior to anything else out there, so please don't take my comments in a bad way at all. Oh and as a Brit-Canadian living in Vancouver for many years now, I just love your cheery English accent! Almost worth moving back to the UK for...and forget all about Brexit!

Well presented, but the practicality of reversing into bays at supermarkets etc depends what you're going to buy 😊! One of the other customers in your supermarket one shows that well, when unloading their trolley.

Doing 90 degree reverse bay parking sounds really stupid to be doing in a real world busy car park. It’s harder to judge if you’ll enter the box because you can only see the box from one mirror. Making it more likely to scrape a nearby car Doing the 45 degree reverse park is like the best method and is really easy to master because you can actually see the box from both mirrors so your less likely to scrape another car

Do you have a more detailed video on the 45 degree parking method? I normally use the 90 degree one (your other video is very helpful for that) but I often worry in busy car parks and feel I am taking too long to do the 90 degree method. If I am doing the 90 degree method and I need to go on the other side of the road because it is narrow in order to get the correct distance, how would this work if there are lots of cars coming in the other direction? I sometimes cut the corner (obviously this would be a problem if there was a car in the bay) - is the problem that I'm not far away enough? Thank you for your videos. They are so good - right pace, lots of visuals and clear.

@@aliceminnerthey6262 "I often worry in busy car parks and feel I am taking too long to do the 90 degree method." Don't. Take whatever time is needed. Make the buggers wait. Most experienced drivers rush it and don't do it safely, ever wonder why you see so many cars with dents?
