As the world responds to the risks of climate change, the availability and effectiveness of climate finance have become key indicators of success. To harden societies to the effects of climate change and reduce emissions in line with long-term targets, the world will need to increase investment quickly. Yet, even as investments globally are going up, it is increasingly clear that governments and the private sector are behind on financing a clean, resilient, and fair future. So, what will help us build a more productive and equitable future?
Please join CSIS for opening remarks by Mafalda Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) on her priorities since becoming head of the GCF as well as a readout of the UN General Assembly and the Climate Ambition Summit, moderated by Joseph Majkut, Director of the CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program.
Marcene Mitchell, Senior Vice President of Climate Change, WWF, Jacqueline Muna Musiitwa, Senior Climate Finance Advisor, USAID, and Christelle van Vuuren, Operations Officer, IFC, will then join Gracelin Baskaran, Research Director and Senior Fellow, Energy Security and Climate Change Program, CSIS to discuss their perspectives on the connection between climate finance, international development, and national and economic security.
This event is made possible by general support to CSIS and the CSIS Energy Security and Climate Change Program.
