How refreshing to hear some honest analysis of the predicament we are in and the false solutions being peddled by governments and corporate vested interests.

Very wise and important words from Goldtooth. Spot on. I just wish the world would actually listen.

On a side note, it is to be expected that capitalism favours capitalist solutions and that we focus on developing new technologies and processes, as perfectly fits our extractivist and consumerist society. And of all possible developments of capitalism, the fact that we are walking the green-capitalism energy-transition climate-finance route is somewhat encouraging. That said, no new technology will ever make high consumption sustainable, certainly not in the time frame our climate predicament imposes on us. And because our over-exploitation of resources is rooted in inequality, it is becoming increasingly clear that a more respectful and participatory approach like economic democracy is an essential part of the solution.

Very interesting forum with knowledgeable and committed people. My takeaway is that our actual goal is burning less, that development finance is only a tool and can be deployed unfairly and unnecessarily, and that mitigation and adaptation requires more equality, more citizen participation, feminism, workers' rights, native peoples' rights, and everything that is good and balanced and respectful of other living beings.

Thanks for the colonialist perspective that needs to be out there more. Hydrogen is a dead end. We have anaerobic digestion which fermented biodegradable waste, mostly food, which is problem of waste not a solution as the carbon footprint upstream is likely to be high. It is also a risk of fugitive methane emissions as there are numerous 'small' plants that collect food waste from a wide area. The methane is predominantly burnt for electricity generation and some use of heat. It is a messy fix for food waste and landfill / incineration that is not sustainable at scale. Energy From Waste is another red herring which involves burning tyres, fresh cut wood, and other flammable much of this is not scalable and is highly polluting and a dubious practice. Few discuss the need to abolish cars from our major towns and cities which would be a huge improvement to health. This is the low hanging fruit of tackling transport emissions along with private jets.

Lot of good information. Need to quit bashing white people though. If we’re going to solve this climate crisis, we’re gonna have to solve it for everyone. Righteous people of all colors , will need to work together. Research the Alaska native claims settlement act which was implemented so that the pipeline could be built. Negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars for Alaskan native peoples and deeded them millions of acres of land. Nothing necessarily wrong with that. The Arctic slope regional corporation, and Alaskan native corporation FYI, has been totally in cahoots with the OIL companies, wanting to open up more of the north slope for drilling because they profit immensely from it. There’s plenty of blame to go around no matter what your skin color happens to be. Just saying that we need to work together to solve this. The rich and the oil companies/resource extraction people are the enemy of the rest of us. Need to keep that in mind, please people:-)

Want to do something good for the environment? Then stop holding these useless climate conferences. The wasted airplane fuel alone could probably supply a large city for several years. 28 conferences and ZERO results. Just waffle.
