Good stuff. Very true about the 6 month trial. It applies to those who are usually spontaneous and arrogant...

It's crazy to see a tradesman talk about the importance of metrics. ...now if we could only get the executive class to talk about the importance of 'nut up'

I've been stalled on a apprenticeship trying to pick up a trade, to the point I was 2.5 years in on a 1.5-2.0 year process. Bogged down doing a bunch of broom-pushing and not enough actual training. Boss had put out job postings for journeyman, but no other apprentices, while being told that another apprentice was needed for me to advance. After denied a raise to tide me over, I started looking, and got another job paying 40% better just to start. The technical training isnt relevant to this new job, but the fact I had been given technical training was enough for them to hire me almost on the spot.

Thinking about going to a trade school for plumbing. It’s a 5 year apprenticeship program and if I can get in then I automatically get a job that starts at $23.07 an hour with a local union they’re contracted with. Once I graduate then I’ll get my journeyman license. Do you think it’s worth it? Love the content btw. Always keeping it real

My job classification is Union negotiated. No raise for me unless everyone gets a raise. Also limits what jobs you can do without stepping on other job classifications toes. Not really sure how to make these steps work within those limitations. Any thoughts?
@brasshouse-og2 ай бұрын
@@ZZTOPGUY1 If there really was no way for you to get a raise without getting everybody a raise I would be trying to get a promotion. I would find somebody within the company who is making the money that you want to make and try to move into a similar position. If you let everyone who matters know that that is your goal and then ask them if there are any markers or metrics you could hit to see if you’d be a good fit for that position. If you’re already vested in the union it’s always actually worth it to move over to management and take the benefits and bonus package they give management as long as it’s not a bullshit company. You can always go back to join the union later if you hate it and move all your 401(k) money into your union 401(k).
