An afternoon of shooting fun for me could be with my Glock and about 500 rounds on the plate rack. Cost is the problem. Unless you're a sponsored pro shooter or just ready to spend $100s on ammo, that won't happen a lot. But practice on the Glock is wise due to its specific ergos. A solution could be the Advantage Arms .22 LR Glock Conversion, tested here in TNP on Glock 17. We are impressed by it. Unlike other Glock conversions, this one actually works. Mostly. It still is a .22 and will experience jams here and there. Bulk ammo and low quality ammo is not rec'd and won't work well in these. But with high impulse ammo they will mostly work very well.
Credit a smart design: this slide is light and made of aluminum with only critical parts made from steel. This allows the underpowered .22LR to power it well. Installation, fieldstrip are a snap like any other Glock and the conversion only requires minor lubrication. Durability with its 416 SS barrel seems high. And the conversion has a upside: If you've done any frame or fire control work on your Glock, that will be part of your .22 Glock shooting experience as well. Adv Arms does warn against compatibility with 3.5 lb Ghost trigger connectors but our 3.5 lb units worked fine. Firepower on the Advangage Arms conversion is outstanding with 10, 15, and 25 round FACTORY options available. The Adv Arms mags are made from stiff composite and work well. Probably available elsewhere in the future after this video, you can purchase them now direct from Optics Planet, see links below.
The Tactical Solutions .22 Glock mags and conversions are not recommended and choked repeatedly (shown). Value is moderate, costing about the same as some complete .22 pistol options like Ruger 22/45, Browning Buckmark. But with its highly useful Glock training capability (to a degree), proven reliability, and its huge FUN factor, this is one conversion that is recommended without hesitation from TNP."

This finally got my wifey into shooting. We have a glock 17 and she didn't like the recoil, therefore she only shot about half a mag and didn't want to shoot anymore and didn't shoot the nine again, just didn't want to practice and wanted to go home.I bought this kit and now she has about 1500 to 2000 rounds down range and loves shooting now. The last range trip she shot 3 mags of 9mm after a brick of 22 and I couldn't be happier. This was the ticket to getting my wife as excited as me to go to the range. And she actually did really good at 5 yrds, thanks to practice and teaching her trigger control w AA Kit. First Sunday ever my wife asks ME if I want to go to the range . ? H3ll yea!

My experience was a little different. My first shots were a 350 round box of 40 Gr Federal AutoMatch. It was hard to get through a 10 rd. Mag w/o a stoppage--either failure to extract, failure to feed or straight-up stove pipes. It got better as I shot more. I took it home, left the slide locked back for 3 days and went back to the range. That time I shot CCI 40 Gr mini mags. No malfunctions--shot a couple of mags with leftover Feds and they fired without a hitch. Condensed--mine needed break-in, then it was fine.

I used my department's Glock 23/19 conversion and it worked great. I was going to by a personal one for a Glock 17/22. I think I shot between 250-500 shots out of the one I used and it worked great. Thanks for sharing!

Back when ammo was $4.88 for 50 rounds at Walmart and 1,000 rds of 9mm was $89 at guns shows I would shoot MINIMUM of 300 rds a session. Nowadays, its a whole different story.

I have had one of these advantage arms for over 10 years with 4 mags. It fits on my Glock model 22 and 35 frames, shoots the same on either (because in reality they are the same frame). Been shooting a lot with this. Introduced my wife when she was just my girlfriend to shooting with this and the original Glock laser on the frame. She loved it. These things are FREE. Simply by the money you save in ammo, it pays for itself fast. Great Video Nutn.

250 centerfire pistol rounds discharged in a single session,I'd bet it's been 7 years for me. 15 years ago, reloading for 38 super, 9mm or 45 cost less than $70 per thousand(I had the brass), even reloading now is Pricey. I've been on the fence, I just needed to see the Kit in action before I dropped the cash. I just ordered a Gen 3 kit before all the kits go backordered until next year :) Thanks for another GREAT Video, now to look for a couple 25 round mags.

I finally got mine off of Gunbroker. Great accessory. To the people who keep asking "Why not a whole other gun?" Less to take to pack. I can now take my Glock 19, the .22lr conversion, Keltec sub-2000, and SBR AR (.223&22lr) all in the same bag. I bring 50 9mm 50 .223 and 1000 .22lr and I can shoot all day. As far as a BOB, I can fit the AA Conversion, Kel-Tec 2000, and Glock 19 all into a padded briefcase along with 100 rounds 9mm (33rdx2 17x2 mags) plus 250 rounds .22lr for backup/small game.

I shoot outback and I am near new affluent neighborhood so I only shoot about 15-30 rounds sporadically throughout the month not to draw attention to myself. I'm cross-dominant, so I'm teaching myself to shoot with both eyes open, causing a wider spread pattern. I think this might help me practice more, w/ less cost. I'm liking this.....Thanks Nutn! It's April 2015 and I think it is safe to say this would not be a good buy at the moment...Cabela's has mountains of 9mm and zero .22 LR of course. But one day hopefully .22 will be back in stock so let's look at the numbers: ~$125 / 500 rds 9mm - ~$40 / 500 rds .22. That's $85 difference (ballpark figures, YMMV) per 500 or $0.17 per shot. That's ~ 1750 rounds you have to shoot to break even on your purchase. Keep in mind it's not full power so you won't be training follow up shots compared to 9mm. That's a lot of shooting to break even but I still think it might be worth it. Even 9mm is tiresome to shoot after awhile, but .22 can be shot all day and will certainly train your accuracy.

+Tosh Outdoors I taught my 16 yr old daughter how to shoot with an AA kit on my Glock 23. Within 3 or 4 mags she was hitting 3 inch 10-rd groups at 20 feet. Never heard of a new shooter at any age doing that with 9mm. So yeah, it was a good buy. When the time comes, I have no doubt that this kit fast-tracked her to have the confidence she needs to move up to .40 cal.

Last time I had a 250 round range day? Last Sunday and at least twice a month. Yes 40 cal ammo isn't cheap but for me it's worth it. Nothing better on my days off than a day at the range with my shooting buddies. I've heard Ppl complain about glocks but for me it was love at first full mag. My g22 is my favorite gun and since my friends 1st fired it, 3 of them bought their own. 2000 rounds later and not 1 problem. It will not fail. I trust my life with it. Glock4evr

I had exactly this kit for my 22 and 31. Sold it after month of frustrating attempts trying to get it to run somwhat reliably. I don't think I was able to run a single mag without a failure to feed. Ended up spending 100 dollars on top of it, bought a M&P 22 and never looked back. I also have the .22 kit for the full size SIG and it runs perfect, no matter what ammo.

Out of a 525-round bulk Federal pack, I only got about 7 jams and that was when I first got the pistol. All feeding issues, but like yours, nutn, they were infrequent. I'm happy to report that the 25-round mag works in my G26/27/33 Gen4 conversion kit, even if they specifically say it isn't recommended for subcompacts. Well, neither is the bulk ammo, but even with those things against me, still, only 7 malfunctions out of 525 and those were towards the latter end of the 525.

Hey nutnfancy I own a glock 23 and every time I go shoot I do shoot 250+ rounds since I don't get out to shoot as much as I would like I make up for it when I do go! It's a trade off though I don't shot all that frequently, but soon I will be able to go shoot more often!

Nice point with the bug out bag .22 round load. I try to hit the range a couple of times a month. I don't have all day so I'll do 50 100 50. That's rounds of .22's, then 9's or 357mag (Smith 686 - nice!) and finish up with .22's. I use a MK111 for the small guys. Fifty five bucks for the 9's and much much less for the .22's. I don't go broke and keep my hand in..my 2 cents.

The prices you found are just about right in the US. Our Walmart stores carry the Remington UMC 250 round value pack (115gr 9mm FMJ) for just over $59 USD, after sales tax it's about under 26 cents a round. Like nutn said, you can only practice trigger control with a .22, to get good with your G17 recoil wise, you still need to put enough time with the 9mm.

There's not much of a spread for 9mm handloads vs say AL Blazer which can be had around here for $10. Average reloading costs are about $8/50, sure they're full power and more accurate; you don't reload 9mm because it's cheap. Now 40/45/10mm, that's where handloading really shines as the price is basically the same no matter what caliber you load. Once you have a full progressive w/powder cop and automated case prep/clean, it becomes more palatable to do high volume reloading.

Absolutely, at my house we reload .45, 9mm, and .38. We shoot Bullseye, and we need the half loads not the full loads. The guns are more finicky and some basic ammo is too much for one handed lengthly shooting.

Call me crazy, but, in answering your question, the last time I took my Glock 17 to the range was last weekend and I threw 350 lead balls downrange with it in a single hour. S'why I hate going to the range alone. I shoot 10x more when I'm alone because I'm not babysitting everyone. Wait, what? Anyway, lol, I'm really trying to get better with the stock 17 trigger. I'm getting too used to the 34's pull and it's not my combat gun, the 17 is. Might go with a new trigger.

you have to buy the threaded barrel separately and there is a difference btwn 3rd and 4th gen. You can't interchange them, so if you buy one make sure you match it correctly to whatever Gen you have. Hope that helps.

why didn't they utilize the whole mag length to fill with .22? why only 10? I would think you'd be able to fit 20 in the standard length mag alone.

All hyped, went to the website.......what a bummer. Not Nutn's fault. Gun related companies need to get it together.

Great review Nutn. Good job making me want something else. Looks like a great way to get a .22 as well as getting practice with your glock. keep up the awesome reviews

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks. They would have to change other feature on the glock in order to recieve the points needed to import. Which sucks, I would be interested in a 22lr Glock as well.

May not apply to a .22, but they may not bother because they wouldn't be able to get it imported because of the ATF. They make two .380 glocks but they don't get enough points for importation. 22LR may fall into the same fate.

I wish Glock would come out with a "3 pistol set" A Full size Glock 17 in 9mm, 26 for Everyday carry, and throw in this kit for a $1000-$1100. people under estimate how much a .22 kit can help your training out without breaking you.
