The reason why it is risky to bring a pot with no drainage hole outdoors: It is mainly because of the rain. Too much water can make your plant die. However, if you have a covered porch, it is safe to put it outdoors as long as your area doesn't get tons of rain or storm.

You can also invite bugs into the house after bringing it back in!

Finally, someone uses pots without drainage holes. I’ve been using holeless pots for 29 years now. One other advantage of no holes is not losing the nutrients that are in the soil because it doesn’t drain and poured out.

Oh, this method is not for overwaterers, like me😂 I guess you have to be completely dedicated to plants to go for drainaige free method. Bravo to you! Being that much attentive to your babies takes a lot. Thanks for your channel!

Yes, definitely not a suitable method for overwaterers. Actually, I used to be one too. However, as the number of pots increased, I had to find a way to reduce the time of watering. As a result, decided to cut down water :D Thanks for watching!

If your pots are small enough, you can also CAREFULLY tip them sideways and drain out excess water.

I have a large monstera. This summer I repotted it in a pot with no drainage holes. I bought a high floor pot and decided to fill it with 1/2 of drainage material. I am only worried if the leftover water would turn rotten, but other than that, monstera seems to be fine. It gave 2 enormous leaves since it was repotted

Yes, as long as the amount of water is controlled, it will be fine.

Hi. I’m a new passionate plant mum:). I really enjoyed your video as you clearly articulated the points you made. I have one question, the reason for not taking the plants in pots without drainage outside is mainly the sun or also rain? I live in a city with little sunlight so I’m always worried about my indoor plants as they don’t get enough sunlight ( those that need it) so whenever we get sunlight I rush my plants outside😂. Not sure it’s a great idea. Thanks for your time 👏🏾

Hi Emilia, it is mainly because of the rain. I should have explained more in detail. Sorry about that. There is no need to worry about the sun. It is actually a great idea to put them outside during summer. But for certain plants, it could be important to get exposed to direct sunlight gradually. There are actually three ways to do the transition from indoors to outdoors. 1. You can put them outside under a glass table for a few days before exposing them to direct sunlight. 2. Or just simply gradually increase the amount of time of sunlight exposure each day for a few days. 3. Or put them in a filtered sunlight area(for example, under a tree) first for a few days and then move them to a direct sunlight area. If you have a covered porch, also no need to worry about the rain too :D

I am enjoying your videos. You are very knowledgeable about snake plants. I have one that I rescued from the supermarket flower shelf. I don't know what variety it is. It looked a little damaged when I got it. That was two years ago. It looks great now. I only water once a month. How can I tell if it needs to be repotted?

I recently uploaded a video about my 4~5 years old Moonshine plant: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoPamJlvop5qm5Y After multiple years of thriving, it was finally getting brown spots on the leaves. I assume it is because lack of nutrients since I didn't give any fertilizers. If you do give fertilizer, I think you can wait for longer. But if not, I think it is good to repot every 3~4 years max. And repotting every 2~3 years would be best, just to be sure the plant doesn't get imperfections, like brown spots on leaves. However, my other 4~5 years old Moonshine plants are still doing well with no imperfections. So I believe it also depends on pot size. Smaller the pot, it needs to be repot more often. Another way to tell is, if you're Snake Plant is too crowded(=if you feel like you are suffocating just by looking at it), it is time to repot :D

My bad. Thanks for leaving this comment for others. I thought it was obvious due to rain. However, I think I should have explained more in detail because if you have a covered porch, it is OK to put them outside. Next time I will try to explain more thoroughly.
