I have had 1 for 2 years. In the first year, it got a LOT of use from Brisbane to Blue Mountains to Vic High Country to Tassie and back, plus trips from Brisbane to Flinders Ranges and back as well as various other smaller trip to Fraser Island. About 2 months out of warranty, a strap broke that holds the fly on. They replaced it without any issue at all. I haven't used this replacement much yet due to covid19 erc. But its still great. I have no issue closing mine with bedding and 2 pillows. I have never had to get on the roof to force it closed. I did have to get a 50 dollar ladder extension as I have a 4 inch lift and 35's. For the money, I reckon they are great.
@Campingdownunder
@Campingdownunder 3 жыл бұрын
I contacted them well before my warranty was up but as soon as I mentioned how often I use it they flat out refused to honour the warranty. You are covered until your warranty ends regardless of how much use the product gets. I had loved kings gear & their warranty process right up to that point. I feel very let down. As for sitting on the rooftop tent if I don't we struggle to pull the straps tight enough. It's vastly improved though since I recently installed the darche straps

@@Campingdownunder I can only comment on my own experiences. I have fitted out a few cars and bought a lot from them. With warranty claims, I have dealt with them at their stores and I couldn't complain. I was once sent a faulty item I purchased online, they sent a replacement the next day. Your warranty actually doesn't expire at 12 months, the Australian Consumer Law says it has to be free of manufacturing faults for a reasonable period of time regardless of the time limit given by brands and it also takes into account the price paid. I am sure if you went in to a store and showed them the issues you are having, they would look after you. That's been my experience.
@Campingdownunder

Thanks mate 👍 I live in the country unfortunately so no where near a store. I have to lodge online claims each time. I'd claimed 2 or 3 things in the past online and there were no questions asked. It was so simple. That's why it shocked me how I was treated when it came to a more expensive item. Their excuse was that I use it too much & that's why it's wear and tear. But warranty doesn't state how much a product can be used just the period which I was still within

We have the router with annex, we've had ours 3 years, been camping most weekends in all seasons, the only issue with ours is the aluminum floor has actually torn, apart from that it still performs as new, and we keep a double -5 sleeping bag and 2 pillows, I agree with you very good for $700

Thanks mate, this will be my first roof top tent. I will customise myself to enhance it. It is very simple to fix the issues you described. I would rather spend 669 (current price) than 2k. I am confident I can make it stronger. I will use my portable Biolite solar lights to get plenty of light inside at night. I think this is good value for someone who has the skills to enhance it. You covered everything from the floor to the straps. The zips do break over time and the covers tend to tear. As to folding out the tent⛺️ it took me years to figure out and I've thought of doing a video for KZbin of how to make the floor level. When opening the rooftop tent you use the ladder 🪜 to do so. Once the tent is opened lift the ladder back up until the first click. Then grabbing each side click it into the slot as it levels it out. Then drop the ladder down again and the floor becomes level. I like this review as you said it like it is. You buy cheap expect cheap but if you buy something more expensive look for reviews of problems that come with them.

My theory on why 4wds prices are jumping is because they essentially work on Buy bulk (real bulk) and less and less people are Buying from them as well as they've stopped drop shipping so they don't have the Buying power they used to over in China, as well as they have payed to up there quality control (only slightly but still) and I think they've been fined 2-3 times so all these costs will have to be passed on to the Buyers even if it isn't justified just my 2c

I own one of these as well mate and you and I have both learned that these are the drawbacks of not spending a little bit more. Personally, if you’re reading this and are deciding about this tent these are a really great financial solution if you have kids that can sleep in the top and then you can sleep down the bottom on a queen mattress in the annex. For me and my partner (with no kids) just kicking around and camping it doesn’t feel like it’s been the right investment. I will note that for me that cracking you’re hearing on your floor is only on the side that isn’t supported by the roof racks. Is that the same for you? Great videos mate keep it up.

Yeah they are the ones that catch on fire. Check the ends of each light. They don't put enough silicone over the ends of them so the 2 wires twist and contact on each other. Rather than blowing the inbuilt fuse it sends a high current straight to the dimmer switch which gets very hot then catches on fire. Check the ends every time before you use them & you'll be fine. I have been considering a rooftop tent and as I do not go camping a lot and will be on my own this would probably suit me however the design flaws you outlined are interesting and require consideration. The floor that sags is simply to large an area to be self supporting and needs to be constructed of a thicker piece of marine ply. It is not adequately supported and the ladder is just not robust enough to do the job. If I were to purchase one, these are the modifications I would have to make just based on your review. 1. A piece of 14mm marine ply would need to be substituted for the current offering. This will still need to be supported to prevent flexing by cross bars of box section aluminium tubing. 2. two robust supporting legs on the corners where the guy ropes are. 3. The ladder in my opinion is just not robust enough to support the floor let alone the weight of two adults. I would never drill a hole in the rails as this will create a weak point. The middle section of the ladder is a potential weak point with an unacceptable amount of flex. The side rails of the ladder need to be longer to mitigate this. 5. The hinge points connecting the ladder to the extended floor are also another potential fail point and need to be more heavy duty. The last thing you want is a ladder fail resulting in an injury and/or damage to your vehicle. 4. Marine grade clips, buckles and straps should be fitted. With all of the potential modifications that need doing the price of near $ 900 is way above value for money. As for having to get onto the roof to put the cover on a small folding ladder will need to be used as this will always be an issue. The zips can be lubricated by rubbing a carpenters pencil on the zip ( never use sprays as they attract dirt and moisture. ) The light issue can be solved by camping in a shaded spot if possible. At the end of the day it is a budget tent and unfortunately you get what you pay for but it has the potential to be a lot better.

I've got 2 kings sleeping bags in there zipped together and you could see I had them folded correctly. To get the rooftop flat I have to sit on it. Otherwise it sits up on an angle making the bag very tight. Just got used to doing that after the straps broke from trying to pull it tight

I think it's due to the amount I use mine. Our sleeping bags are very thick & take up a lot of room. These rooftop tent designs aren't meant to hold much bedding. Years later I was able to but I had to get a custom roof rack designed & made. I made a video on how I made it work if you look through my videos. My canopy is only 1.5m long and the hardshell rooftop tent I have is 2.3m long. But the rooftop tent can only have 300mm unsupported at either end so I needed a custom roof rack to extend the roof of the canopy. My other video explains it all

I just found this video. It is a bummer that you uploaded it 11 months ago I would have needed it a bit earlier. I bought my Adventure Kings Tourer RTT in Nov 2019 slept in there for a few nights when I was moving from job to job until COVID started and I was stuck in SA and I was lucky to find a job for 1 year. End of May my travel mate and I started traveling again and since then the tent just started to fall apart. I lost zwei nuts at the hinges, the floor (what you mentioned) is cracked and I don't feel safe too. The mozzies always find a way in unless I put blankets in the corner and wrap it around the hinge. The zipper is not very smooth anymore and and and... I was a poor backpacker and I payed so much for it because I thought this will be nice for my travel but no!

Australian dollar fluctuation changes the tent price , i sold a lot of these but i will not own one ,the poor floor and the fact that it does not open flat is frustrating and one of the main reasons we had many returns at our store but we never refused warranty in our store except for clear abuse , we always were very easy to deal with warranties ,but sadly staff attitude is the biggest problem with warranties on any product , different staff member different result and sadly some customers come in fuming over little problems and put staff offside !

So you are saying if someone can't afford a top of the range accessory they should stay home while they save for the next year rather than starting with something in their price range that will at least get them out there exploring more often and then upgrade down the track when the can afford something better? On a budget I'd rather get outdoors earlier. You can always sell your cheaper accessories when your ready to upgrade. It's not like you are throwing money away as you still get those extra memories of being outdoors that you wouldn't have had if you stayed home & you still get some money back when you upgrade. I was honest with the person that bought my kings rooftop tent & showed them everything wrong with it & I still managed to get $400 for it. There for I only had to pay $1000 for an upgraded rooftop tent. That's 2 years use I got out of the adventure kings rooftop tent that I don't regret. I was only disappointed with their warranty department

Yes I have had some issues but the customer service I have received has been excellent and better than other big name brands. I recently had a similar problem with the floor of my rrt, so I took photos made a claim explaining my concerns and they replaced the rrt completely no problems. In this day and age I can confidently say someone somewhere will always have a problem with something they have brought because you cannot please everyone all the time.

Very rude considering I was still in the warranty period. I've had enough & wanted something better quality. @@Campingdownunder Alright bro, I believe everyone has the right to give their opinions on what ever they like but a truthful opinion in my view is the one that has the most bearing. I am sorry to say I have a hard time believing your disappointment with the customer service over this Kings RRT. For one 9 months ago you uploaded a review of this RRT saying you had 18 months experience with this RRT so you should be able to give a good review. Now here's my problem 18 months plus 9 months from when the video was posted is 27 months. The Kings RRT has a warranty of 12 months so can you please show me a business that will honour anything that far out of warranty. Now lets say you have used this RRT every weekend for that period of time that would be roughly 108 weekends you have had at a cost of $80 accommodation costs if you paid $800 for the RRT, which in my book is pretty dam good. Two years ago the tent was a lot cheaper so I even doubt that..

When I lodged the claim I was within my warranty period. After they closed the case there was nothing else I could do. The warranty was only to cover the broken straps and they couldn't even do that for me. Everything else that has gone wrong has happened since I lodged the warranty claim. I explained in the video that not many people will use it as often as we have so I do believe I got my money's worth out of it. But if I had known back then there were better products out there that didn't cost too much more I believe it would still be going with not as many issues.
