While in the PNW go to an auto parts store like NAPA and get yourself an automatic battery filler. Fill it with distilled water, put the nozzle in the cell, press down, when the gurgling stops the cell is full. It’s a cheap piece of kit and works great.

Hi again. You said you were going to put a link in the description box for your preferred watermaker but I don't see it. We have a SeaWaterPro watermaker that we have been using for 3 years back when it was a bit more DIY and less expensive (see their $1995 model). The Karcher pressure washer works fine. Very happy with this company.

Last Friday evening (15 October) I was searching for any cool videos on crossing the Columbia River Bar. 5.5 days later I have binge watched the entire adventure series. I love Ty being Australian (I am guessing Queensland) because the things he says aren't weird to me even though they would be weird to people from the US. I think I even spotted a Milo can in one shot. Keep up the good content.

Proprietary hardware gets you all the time. You just have to hope they don't break down as often. And a slight correction Hilary, the US Navy (& I'm almost certain, the other Navys in the world) no longer have any battleships in active duty. That warship was either a destroyer or a frigate.
@AdventureAdriftSailing3 жыл бұрын
Yep, that proprietary stuff is always a struggle! You are probably right about “battleship” being an older term - just used that word as it’s well known for a title. They all go by “warship” on the radio.

I bet it is allot better to store a boat in a dryer climate. Less rain, and low humidity means less chance of developing mold inside the boat, I would think.
@davidwarnes51583 жыл бұрын
Rain is good for boats with teak, hot dry weather will destroy your teak, dirt gets in a clogs the grain,
@AdventureAdriftSailing3 жыл бұрын
You both are correct! Low humidity is good for a lot of things on board (including drying out any deck rot) and not worrying about leaks or mold, but the heat is not the teak or window seals, gaskets, etc. Luckily, the heat in Ensenada is not as bad as further south in Mexico.

There are no more battleships in service. The ship in the beginning of this video is a Arleigh Burke DDG destroyer. Either built at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi, or at Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine.

Hey guys, I just want to say that I love and adore you too I think you guys are pretty remarkable people you are on top of your game as far as sailing I hope you do not just abandon your followers. For those of us to live vicariously through your Channel please don't let us down please keep it up I understand and appreciate, and it's a lot of work but please please we love you guys keep up the effort. I think one thing that might help if you guys integrated yourself with the more popular KZbin channels sailing channels as is. If you could like meet up in Annapolis at the boat show or San Diego Boat Show wherever the way you will be come out a little bit more popular and people will see your faces. But I just want to say once again I admired that the effort the U2 of put forth and I love watching your channel as much as any other channel you are on the top of my list I'm saddened that you're not producing more content. But I'm hoping you will find some inspiration somewhere to continue to produce more content I get it takes a lot of energy and a lot of effort. For insurance in the past we have purchased plans specifically designed for people who spend more than 50% of their time out of the US. They are quite affordable for emergency-only (high deductible). We have had very little need for medical care while traveling (luckily!), but when we have it is very affordable to pay out of pocket for minor things in Latin America. I even received free healthcare in Chile!

A little confused. You just arrived at this marina and checked in....and they are going to allow you to dock for a few months? I'm assuming some prepayment of the dock fees? Will anyone be checking your boat from time to time to make sure it's ok.? I always thought long term docking would have a waiting list...
@AdventureAdriftSailing3 жыл бұрын
Depends on when and where for marinas - we had been in contact with these guys ahead of time to arrange a slip. Some places have waitlists, some places are busy certain times of year, and some places you get lucky and there's availability.

Those Spectra watermakers are a joke. Sailing Uma just put one in...the thing is they could have bought a sunpure and two extra flexible solar panels to make up for the extra energy draw and been up seven grand. Most Clark pump watermaker pumps need to be completely rebuilt every 1000 hours. The Specrtas have no joke like 90 seals and o-rings. All that rubber wearing down all the time. The pressure washer pumps like the Sun pure has have pistons like a car engine. Most cruisers will probably die before needing to rebuild one of those pressure pump.s When yours goes it is $1800 for a rebuild. Buy another Sun Pure and sell your husk and you will be about even. An even better idea sell it now while it still works and go get a Sun pure.
@AdventureAdriftSailing3 жыл бұрын
Yes, amazing what you can sell and prices you can charge with marketing. As someone else mentioned, the energy savings with a Clark pump is a huge benefit, depending on your battery bank and solar setup. But we like being able to fix things easily. Trying to limit our projects at the moment, but we may consider switching in the future.

Hope that you guys are done with the dirt jobs soon and back to cruising. It's always about funding the life, isn't it?
@svbarryduckworth6283 жыл бұрын
Just came by to see if you guys had any news but I bet you are going to keep working long enough to make a big fat cruising kitty so your next cruise can last much longer. Jumping back and forth often between land and cruising is a pain as I know you are well aware with your recent multiple boat shell game. Make it worth it so you can stay out longer. We just spent a month on the hard this spring and then just a few weeks later got hit by lightning so we had to go right back into a marina for a short haulout and a mast rebuild while we spent another month doing a complete electronics refit in a slip. Good thing we have good insurance or.else we would be needing to get dirt jobs as well. But marina life is not cruising :( -especially when the boat is constantly torn apart. It seems complete electronics refits mess stuff up more than anything else short of fiberglass repair.

We love Mexico! Definitely poverty, as you mentioned, but gives you a new perspective on lifestyles and what’s important to different people. Overall, we have found the large majority of people to be extraordinarily welcoming, helpful, honest and friendly, to a degree which can be hard to find in more developed countries.
