The Honda Helix was my Dad's favorite scooter. Mom passed in 2009 after battling cancer for 8 years, and Dad was trying to heal a broken arm. ( He broke it on a jet ski at Lake Powell. ) The man was a verteran of 3 wars, he had no fears! Anway, after Mom was gone, he kept saying he was going to buy a Helix and take off and travel the USA. He was 82 at the time. Sadly, he had a stroke before his arm healed. We lost him 6 weeks later. But even in his hospital bed, he kept saying he was gonna get out of the D*MN hospital and buy a Helix. :) I just bought a 2012 Suzuki Burgman a month ago, and I'm getting it ready to go on an epic ride up around the Pacific North West. I just turned 73! I, like my Dad, have been riding all my life. I celebrated my retirement 15 years ago by riding the full length of the Continental Divide on a KLR 650 with 4 friends also on KLRs. Mexico to Canada on as many dirt roads as my buddies and I could find. Dad rode bikes and scooters before my brothers and I were born. (some interesting stories there) Back in the 60s, he loved the Lambrettas and Vespas. But he appreciated the Japanese scooters and always talked about buying a HEllix and taking off on it. I envey you having your wife ride with you. Mine won't even sit on any of my motorcycles anymore, but oddly enough, she loved riding my Ducati a few years back. This video has been a blast to watch! It brings back a lot of memories.

IN 1996 I lost my DL.... bought a $1200 TOMOS Targa moped.... looked like a little motorcycle complete w/ faring but I rode it for the 3 yrs of my suspension. It was a 50cc bike w/ 26" wheels, got 115 miles per gallon & I took her all over the State of Virginia. Love seeing people make do w/ what they've got !! When I see motorcycle videos they all talk about what their bike can't/won't do..... then you see these guys Doing It ALL on very little! I knew before I saw this = I saw an Asian family of 5 all on a small moped & riding it. We can make do w/ whatever we have. peace
@jaksakatunaric85733 ай бұрын
My God, I was born and lived in Yugoslavia until the end of the 80's and I had a small TOMOS, it was like the Targa but basic. I had no idea that they had made it all the way to the USA. What an illusion. That if, when it got too hot, it stopped....hahahahaha.

Mine went 32mph but I added an exhaust & better electronic CDI unit which she'd go 44mph. Mine never overheated but the fuel tank was an inside the frame tank w/ a welded seam. It finally vibrated & leaked, but I'd made it thru with no other failures. I washed the front end out 2 times for pulling the front brakes too hard but now I'm looking at a Honda 150L Dual Sport Bike but had to see this video.... you be safe

The Honda Helix RULES !!! So comfy and fun. Definitely the GoldWing of scooters. That's really cool that you know how to work on scooters and basically rebuilt your Helix before the trip. I had a CH250, The Honda Elite 250, basically the little brother to the Helix, 1986 with only 16,000 original miles. I just sold it, and it was in excellent condition with everything working. I'm 55 and SO envious of you guys. My dream is to travel the USA on a bike of some sort and see this beautiful country. Good thing you did it on a scooter while you're still young.

Put many miles on a Helix and sold it 2 years ago and bought a Honda Monkey, Have regretted that ever since. Adjusting the valves on a Helix is the easiest of any motor ever. Don't even need a feeler gage, so simple. They are limited to 68 mph do to the small 10 inch rear wheel, but they will do that up hills and get 65 mpg. When Honda stopped producing the Helix the up roar was so great they kept production for two more years. Great ride great video.

My parents bought 2 Helix's in 1987 they loved em put tons of miles on them. one day my mom was hit head on by a van at 55mph, she lived the bike took a lot of the impact, i credit her living to it . Any regular motorcycle and she'd have died. He sold both . But they eventually began riding again and regretted selling the good helix. during their 48 year marriage and riding those bikes got the most use .

hey guys ! Small tip for flying stuff that stings : HEAT.. their venom is very sensitive to heat, so you only need to heat it up, and it will instantly get destroyed on a chemical level.. instant relief guaranteed ! I used to work in a park, and had a pack of smokes JUST for that reason.. i don't smoke, but when i got stung, take a cig out, light it up, puff it a bit to get it nice and hot, get the lit part super close to the stung area (less than an inch, it needs to like burn your hair), then puff on it a bit to get it even hotter, hold a few seconds, and boom, there you go, swelling and pain stop immediatly ! of course, the earlier you do it, the better, as it will still take some time to go back to before it started to swell.. also, make sure the stinger isn't inside anymore.
