This week, I get to celebrate my Spring Break with my little family in a very special tent gifted to us by mom. We're so excited for this opportunity and feeling VERY fortunate.

Roof Bag- best thing I ever bought. Keeps all pillows, bedding, bags out of the car. Get one!

I was thinking about one on this trip and if it’d be worth it! We had a lot packed on the roof rack, and used a tarp to cover it up, which was a bit of a process.

I completely agree about the noisy, non-breathable "nylon" raincoats... Recently, I've been using oilskin raincoats. The "Oilskin packable poncho", from the "Outback Trading Company" is the one i have been using the most. The only negative point is the much greater weight... Thanks for the video.

Oh! I’ve always been curious about oilskin. Has it been effective? I like the look of it.

It has worked very well, even here in South America. As it is cotton, I consider it not to be completely waterproof, but it is highly resistant to the elements. It's like a softer version of the canvas from a tent or the tarpaulin on a truck; the outside gets a little wet, but the humidity doesn't reach the inside. It also needs the eventual reproof, with the oil, grease or wax that the manufacturer recomends.

@@adventuredenali I looked over the speakers and didn’t really see anyone that caught my eye so I ended up staying home. Looked pretty big though, I drive Uber on campus all night fri/sat and saw some of the setup for it.

Haha, you're leaving us hanging with this cliffhanger!? I hope you got the tent in time for your trip! Are the flannel shirts less cold, when damp from sweat, than regular cotton shirts? I always sweat a lot when hiking (well, hillwalking, we don't have mountains in the Netherlands), but I can't find any wool shirts in my size, so I am stuck with either cotton or polyester (which I don't like). I hate it, and it's only getting worse (hello there peri-menopauze!), but I refuse to let it keep me from going outside! I sometimes wonder if wearing a raincoat actually makes any difference, because I sweat even more while wearing it, that I sometimes think I get just as soaked if I wasn't wearing one.. (Sorry about all the sweat-talk!😅) Have a great trip! Enjoy🏕️

Haha sorry! The tent finally arrived at 7:30pm, haha. It was a bit overwhelming, there were a lot of boxes and it’s very large! Can’t wait to set it up though!! Anyway, what I’ve learned is that when wool gets wet, it actually retains heat and keeps you warm. When cotton gets wet, it gets very cold and pulls your warmth away. So, cotton really isn’t ideal in cold weather if you sweat a lot. However, if you wear layers you can always keep removing them when you warm up to prevent getting sweaty as much as you can! May I ask how old you are? Sometimes I feel like I’m having perimenopause systems too. >.

@@adventuredenali Yay for the tent showing up!! Lots of boxes? Sounds intriguing.. Do you have time to set it up before you leave? I'm rooting for you! Yeah, there used to be the saying: 'Cotton kills', although that feels a bit dramatic for the very mild Dutch winters we've been having these last few years. I know about wool retaining its insulating properties when wet, but it's impossible to find in my size, just like good, actually waterproof, raincoats. (Apparently companies think that fat people don't actually go outside or do things 😉). I was wondering if the flannel behaves differently from regular cotton, because it's brushed (I think?) and therefore retains the body heat a bit better (if that makes sense?). Now I carry an extra dry shirt and/or change as soon as I get home, but it's still uncomfortable, especially when taking a break and you feel the cold creeping up your back. I am 45, and think I started peri-menopauze about a year ago? It took me a while to figure out what was going on though. I don't know how old you are, but from what I have read (because I didn't know anything about peri-menopauze, nobody talks about it) the age-range that people usually start noticing their first peri-menopauze symptoms varies widely, as do the symptoms itself (you know, to keep it interesting). From what I understood, anywhere from 35 to 55 is "normal" but apparently 45 is considered "average" to start peri-menopauze. But I am not a doctor. What are your (suspected) symptoms? Mine are all over the place. From the sweating (no hot flashes (yet?), just sweating, profusely), joint and back pain (especially when I am ovulating and during my period), weight gain (especially around my stomach) and not being able to shift it, to being much more emotional, feeling really down on myself and my body (especially right before and at the start of my period), it's been an interesting ride! And apparently peri-menopauze can last up to ten years..!?! I don't know, but it feels like a design flaw..! 🤣 Hope the tent works out and that you have a relaxing and amazing trip!
