My #1 favorite area of CA -- eastern Sierra, from Coso Junction to Mono Lake. The geology, geography, topography, climate, and I'm drawn to the alpine environment with the crisp dry air and conifers and rugged mountains. Now knowing the geologic history, it is all the more awe-inspiring. How can one not be humbled by the Sierra Escarpment looking up at Mt Whitney from Lone Pine? Or the immense size of the Long Valley Caldera? You get a good grasp of your insignificance in the face of such colossal geological forces and what they did to shape the landscape.

It's got everything every state in the Union has, all rolled up into one state. From beach to metropolis to desert to high mountains all within a couple hours' drive. On one level though the state is a victim of its own attractiveness; its whackadoodle politics and the prohibitive expense of living there have made it into "a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there." But it's not for lack of natural beauty, rich history, geography, geology, varied climate depending on where you are. No state is as diverse as California.

Drove from Mammoth through Death Valley - jets racing down - sonic booms etc- to lie flat on my back and bake at Furnace Creek, then over to Nevada through desserts and mountains before cut ting back to Mammoth and a foot of beautiful powder . What a trip! Usid a full tank o petrol or gas as you yanky doodle dandies call it. I can truly tell you it was beyond fantastic; the landscapes are dreamscapes locked in our minds from some primeval time; just wanted to merge with the scenery and become part of the whole frigging cosmos around me. WOW!!!!! Don't miss this guys! God Bless America!

That's why I felt so fortunate to be born and raised in California. Within a couple hours' drive you can go from sandy beach to metropolis to desert to high alpine mountains and take it all in within a day. The state's politics has ground out the luster it once had unfortunately, otherwise I'd move back in an instant; but I'm left with just visiting occasionally. But every time I drive down there now I make a point of driving to SoCal via US-395 -- THE most gorgeous landscape and climate in all of California.

I always love how you finish up your videos; it's kinda like the video(s), that they're like being at a Worship Service at a church, that is the video(s) at hand. Then, faintly tinkling in out of nowhere, at video's end, comes your closing Theme, "The Glow of All Things". The Benedictory Prayer has finished and everyone gets up from their Pews to file out of the Sanctuary, a fresh glow of hope filling their hearts with the gladness of having viewed AED's latest video offering, to give their greetings to the Priest, Pastor, Minister, whomever--that's YOU--and, the church's pipe organ starts pealing out its Benedictory Postlude; that's "The Glow of All Things". Remarkable, how similar to a Worship Service is, to watching your videos.

Man this video is so comfy to me. As a kid, my family used to make this drive at least once a year to see the Hot August Nights car show in Reno, as well as see the sights and go hiking in the mountains. Once my grandpa died, my parents got better jobs elsewhere, and I started high school... we stopped going. Just many fond memories of this drive with my family, especially the section after Lee Vining.

It's cathartic for me. In the early 1970s my family owned a condo and a cabin in Mammoth Lakes when we lived in SoCal, and we'd make this drive almost every weekend in winter. I loved every inch of the drive. Leaving L.A. and into the Mojave Desert and focusing on all the landmarks along the route felt like I was ascending into heaven. Amazing memories.

Drove this several years ago, towing my sports car up to Virginia City NV for the annual hillclimb. Highway 395 is indeed epic; I'm going to another trip, this time with my wife just for the scenery. I went in mid-September, and didn't realize that the snow hung around through June, per the description.

I always tell people that live on the west coast that they are so fortunate to be living within hours of some of the best scenery in the world. A lot of people don't realize that millions of people from other countries come to visit the beauty of the Sierra Nevadas every year. I always hear complaints about the long drive from Las Vegas to Yosemite but you could not get very much closer to the place than 99% of people in the world. Especially when Tioga Pass is open, that saves 2 hours of driving into the park.

When I was a young man I really wanted to travel America but for one reason or another I never made it . So being able to watch a video like this is a real treat for me, thanks. After awhile I felt like we were driving to fast so I slowed it down to .75. Although I did notice we had a bit of traffic pass us when we slowed down not sure what the hurry was. I especially like that you didnt skip ahead too much ( the less the better). Also just the sound of the road and that you didnt shove your face in front of the camera at all.

I used to live in Gardnerville and would enjoy driving up 395 to visit my brother, in Reno. I've driven south on 395 all the way thru to Victorville, CA--the Owens Valley and Mono Lake views are so amazing. Now that the 395 freeway bypasses downtown Carson City, it provides a faster link to Reno if one wants to choose that route, but it was not there when I lived in the area more than thirty years ago. I laugh when I know now that Phoenix, where I live has more resort Casinos than Reno, one just ten miles from me. They surround Phoenix and one more is being built way out west by our Wildlife World Zoo. Some of them are quite nice. I used to be Rooms/Entertainment/F&B Controller at Tahoe, living in Gardnerville, which was also quite nice, though I never got into gambling. I was allowed to go to their shows, for free, since the staff worked under my department's jurisdiction, though I always gave an ample tip to the host, a close friend. There is something about the more laid back attitude near Reno, where my brother worked also as a bartender at Fitzgeralds during the filming of sister act, and the alpine fresh air, that made it special for me. I was raised in the Napa Valley and after I learned to drive, often drove to Reno to see my brother and even saw the famed Tour De France winner, Greg Lemond, race in downtown Reno in the Coors Classic right after he went thru the Napa Valley, where I saw him the day before. I remember he told the referees in Reno to clear the rocks so the racers could have a safe race. I love your video, sharing one of the most beautiful drives on earth, a well kept secret.

Excellent video. I've just completed a road trip thru Utah and would suggest a video of UT-95 starting either at Hanksville or (especially) from UT-276, south thru and across the Colorado River to Blanding. I travelled on UT-14, -12, and -24 and this was the highlight of my trip.

Nice 😊 In 2022 I was on some of the roads that appear in your videos. The video quality is perfect. Out of curiosity, what dashcam do you use? Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Barcelona, Spain.
