She's not good at anything but she can handle anything, even me torturing her 😉she's reliable and never let me down. Tell me, how does your S2 dances with the wind and the waves?

I read enough comments to say something but won't because I am a gentleman....I am turning 60 this month so manners sir ;) You both jive well. The information was sooooo very helpful to me. I am selling everything to sail everywhere. I am in Florida and having never sailed before this may mean the Caribbean 1, 5, 7, 10 yrs and come home to sit on the beach and never go the whole distance of Caribbean, Australia/NZ, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, and lastly the UK then home to sit on the beach and drink drinks with umbrellas in them while I toss a line in the water. I would be fine if that's what transpires or even half of it or just Caribbean. My new chapter and I get to write it for me after 30+ yrs country living on 10 acres and the best business of 30+ years. Thanks for the awesome video. Disregard the nay-sayers and judgmental twits. They don't see what a cool team you guys are and the truth be told Jay is matured and likely has said more and likes now saying less. Dan is young and so full of piss and vinegar Jay recognizes his NEED to talk more. Either way my best friend (from middle school) and I talk all over each other all the time so I told him when he takes a breathe it's my turn until I take a breathe then he gets to go and we still talk over one another. Love him like a brother from another mother!! 20-30 hubris 30-40 pride 40-50 humility 50-60 appreciation 60 on...who am I ;) Cheers

My Hunter 34 (34.5 feet long, almost 12 feet wide), has a port side aft-ish cabin, at the bottom of the companionway. It's what sold me on the boat. That cabin extends under the cockpit, for part of the berth. Ends, in front on an aft exterior locker. I'll be relocating a drain pipe, that sticks down 3 inches, just above the berth (it drains a shallow locker, that's over part of the berth area.

I like Jay’s boat. I like CC’s because of the owners cabin and the poop decks. Cockpits can be a little small. They also tend to have an engine room as opposed to compartments, which means more room to work on engine or add stuff such as genset, water maker, a/c etc.

Very informative video. I liked the comparison commentary of a center cockpit vs aft cockpit boats. Also the trade offs on what to spend your money on: sails, anchors, batteries, solar panels, davits, etc. Nobody has an unlimited budget, it was good to hear what they each had to sacrifice and why. Lastly, I had no idea one can put a live aboard sailing vessel on a truck cross country! that could really come in handy. Thanks guys.

I have hull #10, 1986 S2-35C. I have only come across one other on the Chesapeake. It's quite easy to run your reefing lines back to the cockpit as I've done. I also added a strong track which makes getting the main up and down very easy. I fit 4 x 100 amp (Renogy) behind the back cushion closest to the stove. It's a tight fit, but it gets them out of the engine compartment and frees up all the space under the galley sink/counter. More importantly, closer to the breaker panel. I would love to see what you did for an anchor winch. I ended up installing a reel style winch from Lone Star Marine.

It’s a nice boat and I’m sure it’s very well maintained but the hull being cored below the waterline is a dealbreaker for me. Even if they were plentifully available, when I list my criteria for what I HAVE to have in a boat, a solid FG hull is near the top of the list.

@@HydeKills this boat has a balsa wood cored hull, meaning that there are two sheets of fiberglass sandwiched with balsa. As opposed to a solid fiberglass layup. If water gets into the balsa core, that boat will be structurally compromised. Solid fiberglass hulls are subject to their own issues but overall are much more desirable (in my opinion) that any cored hull. There are also hulls that are solid ‘glass below the waterline and cored above the waterline but given my preference, I’ll take solid ‘glass every time.

If you go Lithium, be sure it's LiFePo4. The others can burn up, taking your boat with it. I decided, on my Hunter 34, to stick with lead-acid, move them closer to the centerline, just behind the motor (better balance to keep it upright. I have the shallow draft version), with anti-sulphators on each one (the potted kind, that only desuphate, when the battery is being charged.

The problem with lots of locker space is you tend to accumulate a lot of unnecessary equipment . I used to tag stuff .if I didn't use it in a year it went out .

Awesome tour video, jay has a great boat and is really well organized. However, i don't think i like the mast in the middle of the salon like that. However, it is a matter of choice. The importance here is that it is nice to have a friend like that to look after each other in the middle of the sea.

I live in a 34' RV, in a warm climate. I couldn't live without air. I realize the power would be a problem on a boat. Do you just get used to the heat. When the wind is calm, it must be tough. I really like the aft cabin design as well. Beautiful boat.

Yes, you get used to it, and if you get tired of the heat, you can sail north!

Thats my dad. What's even crazier is this boat spent a majority of its life land locked at a lake in NM before heading to sea in 2019.

Really interesting video. Thanks. I have a question: where does one start with sailing? I mean from zero. What are the first things to learn and what is the best way of learning them? I'm suddenly living in the Mediterranean, and it looks like I'll be here for years but I have zero knowledge of sailing. Amy pointers for a pure rookie much, appreciated.

Boom vang is actually more important with this sheeting configuration. When easing the main sheet for downwind sailing, there’s nothing preventing the boom from lifting up.
