Great video and information Dan! I've proven to myself that I can not only live on a 10ft jon boat, but live happily and with a budget of less than $50 a month. Less than that really, especially if I fish more. Since proving to myself that I can live with so little and be happy in such a small boat, I know that when I get a sailboat I will be even happier. As long as she is solid, floats and sails, it'll be a dream come true. The rest of features I consider luxuries that I will gladly improve over time.

Very nice video. Well done. My wife and I did this lifestyle for over 25 yrs. And yes, tho occasional visits ashore with family, or having them join us was great, just for a little while. Provisioning and cooking on a boat is an art. My wife was an expert at it. We ran charters for the “cruising kitty” a couple of months or so a yr. That meant semi gourmet meals 2-3 X a day. She was amazing at it. We also offered SCUBA diving so that kept me busy with diving and filling tanks, and running the passages with clients. We treated them so well that they didn’t want to go ashore all that much. Ha ha. We had a KP 44 center cocpit cutter. Before this we had an Alberg 35. Hurricane Andrew destroyed it, so we upgraded to the Peterson, with chartering in mind. It worked! And you are right. what ever it takes, GO NOW. My first live aboard cruising boat was an S&S 26. Lived aboard and cruised it for 6 yrs.

Your story is so unique as well, your boat is (from what i've seen at least) something that most people would NOT consider buying for full time cruising. You've given so much great stuff on how you've improved it. I think it kind of proves that as long as the hull is solid, put enough work in and you can cruise in any boat small or big. Out of all the sailing videos, what I like the best about your videos is your humility and showing newbies how it can be done. Starting simple small and doing it to start off with is great advice, then build up. Have you looked into alternative fuels like hydrogen to run the motor?
@handroids1981 Жыл бұрын
Hello. I'm not Dan, perhaps he will answer. Unfortunately hydrogen is ... some far way off being an option. Very, very far off. That I know of it's been a "just around the corner" possibility since the 90s. All sailing vessels are eagerly waiting for the lithium replacement. As lithium is STUPID HEAVY. Generally an electric cars weight is about those thirds its batteries. Weight is the enemy of all sail craft. I hope that helps.

Amazing. The one thing I would worry about is going to sleep and waking up to a storm that can topple my vessel over. The other thing I would suggest is if you can manage the space and means you could probably set up an aquarium fish farm and store fish there. Buy a gallon of fish food and you can have ready to eat fish in there. Of course you won't raise the fish too long because aquariums can get clogged up with poop and get dirty, you can just use the sea water to replace the water. But it's just a thought in case you want to spruce it up.

Fresh water only for sprouts. I'm a little older and I've noticed a lot of younger sailors on KZbin. Getting a channel to be popular enough to make money with it is quite a challenge. I'm not sure how younger people do it, with small KZbin channels being the only noticeable source of income. I've been preparing for a possible change to sailing life from land life. I've built a PV charged solar system with LiPo DIY batteries. I'll be looking hard at your DIY system. The boxes look good, keeping water away from the batteries. Mine is larger, 7 320ah batteries. I have a Renoggy 40 amp charger and might want a larger one. The Renoggy is really great, it has some features many chargers don't have. You've really got a lot of equipment, Nichole doesn't have the funds for that equipment. Your water maker will probably help her survive in the Bahamas. Thanks for the video. I recommend a book called Wilderness Medicine and following their recommendations. The medical kit is amazing ! Its a great book.

Just got a taste of this life when I spent a week with my friend on his off grid boat, and now I’m looking for my first sailboat. Would love to hear your thoughts on starting on the west coast of Canada, vs starting in the Bahamas. Had someone tell me it would be twice as hard, and costly to liveaboard in Canada. Also on a separate note, I run a decentralized skateboarding social media platform, where we monetize skaters content to help skaters support themselves around the world, all while just consuming skating content like we normally do. And the reason why I bring that up, is I would like to expand this model to other content, such as sailing since I’m getting into it. Would basically work as a secondary income stream like patreon, but it doesn’t necessarily require to audience to pay you out of pocket, because the content is monetized based on audience votes. Either way, loved the video, and plan to make my way through the rest of your channel.

This is fascinating. Not sure how the algorithm choose to suggest your video as I'm no sailor (motion sickness) and not a huge fan of seafood aside from breaded and fried like fish and chips. That being said... I'd personally want more flours of different sorts (corn meal, enriched wheat, etc...) that have been vacuum packed so they'd be protected from humidity. There are tons of different recipes for pan fried breads of various types and fresh bread just does not last long so having the ability to make your own from scratch would be nice. Just recently saw a video on how to make a simple flour tortilla batter from just a few ingredients and water and pan fry in roughly 5 minutes...so fish tacos could be a thing. I'd also want an abundance of freeze dried foods as backups... as they can keep for years, are light weight, pretty much impervious to temperature changes, and if you have time to boil a kettle of water, make for a easy way to get a hot meal without much effort as it only takes pouring hot water in a bag and letting it sit to rehydrate. Freeze dried meals also give you a way to get certain meals you might otherwise be unable to make with your supplies when you need a break from fish. If you get the higher end stuff... it can be very good. (I prefer Peak Refuel meals... they can be pricey... but if you buy during a sale aren't bad. But the price is worth the quality.) If you can find them, freeze dried vegetables and mushrooms might be nice additions to your ramen as they can hydrate while the noodles do and add extra flavor to your broth. I'd also want the ability to bake if I was able... so one of those sun ovens would be on my list to take advantage of the abundant sunlight I'm sure you get... something you can secure on deck and do a little baking while sailing without having to worry about open flame while juryrigging something on a grill.

Do you carry a firearm or something on the boat? ive seen an ammo can or 2 in the background of some of your videos. I'd imagine it would be a necessity for off grid living

Great video. And beautiful boat. I've been living a nomadic lifestyle for the past 7 years. I've traveled the U.S. And Mexico on foot, bicycle and now a self built off grid van. I've just started researching my next adventure. And I'm very happy to come across your channel. And now I believe I know what I'm looking for. Thank you for the inspiration. Safe travels.

We tried the sprouts while sailing in the Bahamas, but they all rotten in the heat. Lack of veggie is one the thing that got us to come back earlier, my wife got a sun allergy from too much sun and not enough green veg. Be careful with the sun, skin cancer is the sailor disease.
@Adventureman_Dan Жыл бұрын
There are a few greens powders you could also try.

New subscribers my brother. From the Isle of Man 🇮🇲🇮🇲🇮🇲. Iv been battling with leaving my home behind and setting sail. I’m 42 and I’m a little scared leaving my island 🇮🇲. Tho I really want to set sail to. I’m not scared of death one bit. Being an ex Isle of Man TT course. I don’t no why I’m scared of leaving to be honest. I don’t no if it’s cuz Iv two daughters 14 & 20. I alway said I’ll wait till they both finished high school. Iv started working on her again getting it ready as the last couple of years life’s been really crazy for me. So it’s time to get them dreams back in order. Great channel to mate
