I wasn’t vaccinated with some very vital vaccines like the Tetanus vaccine, until very recently. My mom was one of these people who believed autism stems from vaccinations. I find it ridiculous. Especially since I can’t get fully vaccinated until I’m 18 BECAUSE of her neglect to realize that vaccines are present for a reason. Honestly it’s stupid. Since there is undeniable proof that they don’t cause I’ll effects on the brain, and don’t cause mental hindrance. And autism isn’t something to fear or avoid either.

Love this. My little sister has autism. They've come a long way, from being trapped in her own head, and unable to communicate with others. We had an amazing opportunity to get help, not to help her mask, but to help her have tools to save herself from situations when we're not there. I remember when my sister used to go into an absolute screaming, punching, kicking madness if you so much as brushed her. My Mom took it all and would hug her and talk it out with her. Got down on her level, tried to understand the world she had, and would communicate back with it. Back when everyone told my Mom to give up on her, she wouldn't be anything, my Mom refused to believe it. Because she knew first hand what true hopelessness looked like. We used equestrian therapy with a combination of leading child psychologist in our area. Who were all lovely people. We used games to help her look at people, animals to help her get used to touch, and boundaries. And would have her around animals because they produced noise and you couldn't stop that in life. But it was in a way she could adjust and come through it if she were ever somewhere without us. Now? She still exhibits autistic symptoms, but at least she can hug you, have a utensil scrape a plate, and have conversations for a bit before she has to go relax. Or won't freak out every time we leave a location. My family and I don't coddle her or anything, and we remain sensitive to when she needs help. But she's my best friend and I wouldn't trade getting to know her or the others I have met along the way through her. She has a lot of good friends who know and accept her, along with being sensitive to her needs. It's a growing and learning experience. But my sister is amazing. As is. I don't understand how people can say these things about autism being caused by vaccines. It's idiotic and it's not a curse. Some of the things my sister has told me are some moments I can't forget. 😂 She is the light of my life, my best friend, and an amazing human.

My dad was anti-vax. He came down with shingles a few years ago. His fingers have never fully recovered from the nerve damage. He was really good on the guitar; now, he has had to drop entire songs out of his rotation because his fingers cannot handle them. He can't play as long, and he has to take more breaks because the nerve damage interferes or starts bothering him. He sometimes even struggles to text/use his phone due to it. It makes me angry to see someone say it's not a problem to catch these diseases. It makes it so clear they've never had to watch a loved one suffer from some of the effects long term. It breaks my heart to watch my dad play guitar now because he loves playing but it's now clearly such a struggle at times. The only good thing about him catching shingles is that going through that did make my dad decide that vaccines are actually worth your time to get. He'll still hesitate, but you can actually talk him into getting one now. I just wish he'd listened when everyone in his life warned him that some of those diseases had nasty long term issues associated and that was part of why we vaccinate.

Just wanted to say that some tweets in this weren't entirely correct about Autism. It's not a disorder , even if it's technically diagnosed as one. It's a neurotype, literally a different brain type and is in fact a developmental disability. Phrases like low functioning are also really harmful, as its really cruel towards Autistic people who need more support. Autism isn't on a high to low spectrum, it's a more of a color pallete spectrum? You might be able to speak, make temporary eye contact and hold conversations, but not be able to drive, stand loud noises , textures lights etc. High + low functioning are really kinda outdated + considered really offensive by many Autistic people, including myself. I'm not gonna police the Autistic person who used those terms since that's their choice, but just for future reference.

@@infinkeo_archived To my understanding, it refers to the autistic person themselves. "Low support" means they're capable of taking care of themselves (living on their own, feeding themselves, etc) and "high support" means they are unable to care for themselves (they need a caretaker, others have to cook for them, etc). I'd be way more upset if my son was afflicted with, say, narcissistic personality disorder (and let's just say that nobody is blaming vaccines for that)! Vaccine reactions suck and their administration is hard to watch, as any parent can tell you. My kiddo's leg almost doubled in size from the DTAP and I had to keep an eye on it and struggled to keep him comfortable. But the hard reality of parenting is that there are trade-offs and compromises you need to make to give your child the best chance of safety and success. I had him on round after round of antibiotics waiting for surgery to mitigate the risk of permanent damage to his ears from constant infections. I have a couple things I want to point out about credible research: 1. As someone who was in grad school and read a lot of research papers, a lot of very good papers are behind a pay wall because a lot of credited specialized journals need a subscription. However, these are more geared towards other professionals who already subscribe and it would be easy for those who aren't in the field to misinterpret anyways. (It's hard even for those of us who are experts to read these papers) 2. I can see why you only want to see things from a medical professional, however, there is a lot of good research out there where the lead author is not in the medical field. I was going for my PhD in math and was first author on papers on studies done for pediatric narcolepsy. This happens because medical professionals frequently don't have the knowledge on how to do proper statistics or modeling to be able to make any claims. Having said that, I am definitely no expert in the disease and was working closely with a neurologist who was always the second listed author. Just wanted to say that just because they aren't a medical professional doesn't mean they dont have good research, just make sure they have a credible medical profession who they work with.
@Nixeu422 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the journal paywalls have always bothered me. It interferes with the spread of sometimes vital information and often locks out people who don't have the academic connections/positions to get in for free. It's especially annoying when the paper in question is 60+ years old and it's behind a paywall because it's only recently been digitized. And I'm not just saying that because I have a fascination with old school, "if it blew up the first time let's try doing it more slowly this time" chemistry.

It’s kinda fun to see a hard scientist like Goldman trying to work in a soft science field. For people that don’t know, the terms are connected to how predictable the results are. In physics (and computer science) X+Y always=Z and, as long as the calculations are correct, you can predict what Z will be. In biology on the other hand (and medical science) X+Y sometimes =Z and all the possible options for ‘Z’ can be are incredibly wide ranging and depends on variables you don’t have access to. Computer science tends to be rather self contained with nothing from the outside effecting the study, something that is fundamentally impossible in the medical field due to the subject of study having an entire life outside of the test and many complex interactions within themselves. It’s not surprising that he saw two lines on a graph and jumped to a conclusion without looking at the wider world considering he had basically been trained not to.
@Nixeu422 жыл бұрын
He bloody well shouldn't have been. Assuming you've controlled for all variables and jumping to conclusions from then is just as bad a mistake in hard science as soft. Even physics and comp sci isn't as precise in application and actual testing as it is on paper. "Correlation is not causation" is true in all fields of science. His specialty doesn't excuse his ignorance. Seriously, I'm an early undergrad in a fairly hard science field, and I know better than that. Especially with anything statistical. Science is supposed to be about trying to prove yourself wrong, not assuming you're right based on a single data set.

I 100% agree with most of what you mention, but you might want to find a scientist to bug about things like JSTOR, etc. There was a couple things like that: for example, although the abstracts are free, most peer-reviewed studies cost money to access, unless you have access through your university or employer or the journal is open access (which is happening more now), also you mentioned “not trusting anyone but MDs” MDs do not do research very often. Some people DO have adverse reactions to some vaccines due to certain ingredients, but with all doctors' offices having full systems to keep up with patients and their allergies or weaknesses, they won't give you something that they think would make you sick, or be possibly deadly. Why do you think they ask if you have allergies to anything when you're there? If they don't trust doctors, I suppose it'd be due to paranoia and some rare cases they could've heard about, and I could understand that, but most people who would just want to harm others wouldn't be willing to go through the long, stressful & rigorous training + schooling needed to get a doctorate and a role where they're trusted with another humans life. Just make sure they're a legit doctor and you'll be fine.

Hey Ponder, I just wanted to thank you for the tweet that you were criticized for. I'm a healthy-looking 17 yr old kid, who passes for an abled person quite easily, but am actually being tested for childhood fibromyalgia, and have a slew of lung and heart problems. We need people like you to help tell abled people that sometimes, the choice isn't about them. Just because you might (MIGHT) be okay without a vaccine doesn't mean you can't pass it to an immunocompromised person who wouldn't live through it, even of that immunocompromised person was themselves vaccinated. Vaccines may not be perfect protection, but if everyone got vaccinated it would make our lives a hell of a lot easier, especially because the choice to get one has little to no effect on abled people. Additionally, just, the amount of ableism against us autistic people when it comes to vaccines are insane. It truly hurts yo know some people would rather die a slow and painful death from Covid-19 than be like me. And that's not even CONSIDERING it is literally IMPOSSIBLE for vaccines to cause autism. It's a whole damn rabbit hole but that guy, Andrew Wakefield, who proposed scientifically that vaccines can cause autism was literally doing it to make money, and the large majority of the children in the study were either subjected ti very painful and possibly life threatening medical tests without the consent of the parents or of the hospital's medical board, didn't have autism in the first place, or both. Before then, literally only a hundred or so people thought that vaccines could cause autism, and it was mostly because the MMR vaccine was given in the same time period that autistic symptoms start presenting more obviously.

I always had an issue with Andrew Wakefield....but finally reading the details of his "work" made me go from "disdain" to "visceral hatred". Lumber punctures on autistic children. That shit is awful enough when you understand what's happening and know it's necessary. But there's no way those kids understood at all what was happening to them. Fucking sickening. Also, as an aside, my sympathies on the "look like a healthy 17 year old but are actually chronically ill" thing. I've been there, though my issues are nowhere near as extreme. I got POTS (with associated brain fog and chronic fatigue) at 15, and it was...rough, to say the least. And I was lucky: I got diagnosed almost immediately because I went a cardiologist who just happened to specialize in the syndrome, rather than spending years scrambling for a diagnosis. I remember I developed a chronic habit of apologizing for things, even things that were in no way even related to me, out of lingering guilt for causing my family problems and asking them to do stuff for me, when my symptoms were bad. And they've been extremely supportive and never really begrudged me help. Hope you're getting the care you need as well.

They must be very paranoid to not trust doctors but i understand it. The best that you can do though is just try to inform people, and encourage people to inform themselves by doing proper research, which you have done. Also super happy you've uploaded again! your videos are very entertaining

Shingles might have risen during the major administration of chicken pox vaccs, but that's only in adults who had chicken pox as children. There was a social shift in that time (1990s) where parents started becoming more invokved with their kids lives and interacted more face to face with more people, including a larger number of adults who had chicken pox as children, making them ALL more suceptible to shingles. i'm not an epidemiologist, but I do know that disease transmission rates are always influenced by multiple factors, including social customs and attitudes.

My brother is nonverbal and unable to provide for himself or to be left alone. I've seen a lot of low functioning in just my small town. One of my brother's former classmates that were lower functioning than my brother passed away in the last few years. Autism is a disability and you can get disability from the government for it.

Yo i hate to be rude but autisim is closer to a colour spectrum and doesn't really have 'low functioning' people nor 'high functioning'. Not as in he can suddenly care for himself it's just that there's various symptoms, like some can draw but forget to eat due to hyperfixation or something like that. Others might be able to care for themselves but don't register danger instantly/properly. Again, I don't mean to be rude, just trying to point out your brother's not lower or higher than anyone in terms of functioning, he just kinda _is_ y'know?
@mokkakaffearts43153 жыл бұрын
@@caramel9154 He is lower functioning, he hyper fixates on things, his official diagnosis is level 2. There is a functioning spectrum, www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jr.....0d4A&t=32s (This is a mother explaining her son's behavior and this is extremely similar behavior). My brother can not respond to questions like 'how was your day' or 'why do you like legos?' We're currently watching the lego movie for the hundredth time this week. My brother is on disability because he can not get a job, live on his own, drive a car, and can't communicate simple things. I am aware of the symptoms of autism, my brother was diagnosed by a specialist at Oklahoma University back in the 90's when he was 3. His disability is not him or who he is, do not insinuate it is.

@@mokkakaffearts4315 But it is a part of him. He wouldn't be the same person if he wasn't autistic. Also. As an Autistic person, a lot of us would like to get rid of the functioning labels specifically because they help perpetuate and place stigma on autistic people who need more support than others and can't mask as well. I'm also fairly certain Sherbet Tea either is also an autistic person, or was trying to better educate you on the consensus of the autistic community. So it'd be appreciated if you did not speak over them and continue to use labels like low functioning that help stigmatize autistic traits. Many autistic people hyperfixate on things. If I used the functioning labels, I would be considered "high" functioning because I'm able to mask well, but I sometimes am nonverbal, and during hyper fixation I often have forgotten to eat, drink, move around, and in some cases even forgotten to sleep (I've pulled all nighters on accident because I've begun to hyperfixate). A better term for your brother might be that he is high support. Or that he needs more support from others. But the functioning labels, and the function spectrum is quite honestly bullshit, and has been in many cases functionally useless to describing the barriers that some autistic people who are high support face.

As an autistic person, a small critique: The functioning labels are bullshit and pretty much functionally useless. They aren't prescribed based on actual functionality, they're assigned based more on how well or not well an autistic person is able to mask as a NT person, rather than whether or not that person has the skills necessary to continue in society. A lot of the Autistic Community would much rather retire these labels. As it also places further stigma on those who aren't able to mask as well and show their autistic traits more.

Had to do some translation because I don't know what chicken pox and shingles was in French. But now I would like to speak, as a person who get chicken pox and study in lab' stuff. Chicken pox and shingles is the same virus. However, it is most says that if you got chicken pox during childhood, you will have nothing after getting healed. As a child, I unfortunately scratch and now get a little hole scare on my nose that is barely visible. Also, after getting chicken pox, the virus is blocked by our immunity. Meaning that getting shingles is rare, especially with child. Plus, you cannot transmit the shingles as disease even though, the virus can be transmitted. But again, since we usually encounter this virus, our body is able to protected us from it. It just depends on everybody. Not everyone can have a good immunity. Now something that I hate to hear is "If you are not vaccinated, you are putting people to death !". This isn't true. Getting vaccinated doesn't mean you protect the others. The Principe of the vaccination, is to put a gene that is unique to the micro-organism, in order for our immunity to prepare themselves against the real one, and avoiding to get the horrible symptoms. This is due to time. A immunity that never encounter a micro-organism (bacteria, fungi, parasite, virus) will take at least a full week to fight back or more depending of the difficulty to find it. On the other hands, if it already encounter the micro-organism, the immunity take less time to fight back, like 3 days instead of a week. This is why we have an immunity's memory. However, this memory can be forget if the body doesn't contract the micro-organism in years. This is like school when you have to read your lesson in order to remember. If you don't, you are not able to answer question about it. Immunity system and memory work like the same. So by this, it means that even if you are vaccinated, you can still have the virus and by it, transmitted it. People are mostly to die over any organism is the oldest, as their body cells are getting weaker and loosing efficient. But also people who contacted the HIV, since this virus is located in our immunity's cells and so, with years, it became less efficient and the production of immunity's cells is getting tired. Same with people who have to take medics after getting a transplant or chimiotherapy, or are just have immunodeficiency. Vaccinated people have to still be prudent with people who have difficulty with their own immune. Getting vaccinated or not, everyone has their choice and try to explain it. And should be respect, even though a respectful debate can be engaged. Also, vaccinated or not, you shouldn't not out pressure to people who doesn't follow you. Their have their choice.

The fact that he kept citing one single PSYCHOLOGIST over and over again to prove his point about VACCINES just doesn't sit right with me. I think he's mixing up psychologists with psychiatrists (people who study a form of medicine for things like anxiety or BPD) but even then they would still have limited information on SHINGLES since that really has nothing to do with the study of the brain.

Like, yeah, chicken pox isn't necessarily the most deadly of childhood diseases, but no parent should want their kids to suffer when there is another way to sort it. And yeah, it helps towards not probably getting shingles in later life. And I have worked with kids/adults with autism all across the spectrum and they are awesome individuals. Don't think I would have gotten the same experience with, ya know... dead people >.>
