At the end of November I spent an awesome couple of days up on the Mendocino coast with legendary mycologist Alan Rockefeller. We had a fantastic time find and documenting interesting mushroom species while talking about DNA sequencing has revolutionized the study of fungi.

Oh perfect. I was just up in the hills over Mendo a couple days ago. We got a decent amount of chanterelles and hedgehogs. Saw a bunch of what I believe are yellowfoot chanterelles as well. Looking forward to seeing this.

Been a commercial forager for 3 decades now. I noticed these mushrooms (Lobster, Matsutake, chantrelles, king queen boletes honey, black trumphet and many more) would grow like crazy in the forest floor in certain years but next year they would go back to just growing where they usually are found. Seems to be a pattern but the years of them doing so is very sporadic . There's no set amount of years for them to do so. Any idea of what might trigger this phenomenon?

Rainfall, temperature, and relative humidity throughout the year. It’s hard to know exactly what the mushrooms are thinking.

@@FascinatedByFungi Thanks for the response. BTW your excitement and enthusiasm in your videos, reminds me of David Arora. He came along with us almost 30 years ago to pick morel mushrooms in La Grande, Oregon. He was taking pictures of morels in the wild for his book back then. Love your content. 👍
