Loved this Alanna! I spent the first 17 years of my life living in a pub, well, above it! My mum & dad ran the pub and it was a real hub of life & full of fascinating characters. It was during the late 70’s & throughout the 80’s. Pubs were essential in working class communities, aside from the obvious drinking, they were often the beating heart of the community. Pubs were the social media of the time back then. A vital social exchange, a place to not only commune but to find your next job, find a tradesman, pass on important messages (some of my friend’s families didn’t even have a landline in the 80’s!) They were also vital hubs for help and support during the major strikes. Pubs were a vital resource and imho, they still are! Such a shame we’ve lost so many since I was little. You absolutely picked the best Alanna! 💗

If you ever see an overhead video of one, and with heavy traffic, it's really impressive to see the movement, and almost like it's been choreographed! If you want to practice with roundabouts, there are one hundred an thirty of them in Milton Keynes....lol Any chance of a hint as to your favourite pub?
@stephenparker63624 жыл бұрын
Hi, Alanna, that was brilliant and so much fun, only you could compare Irn Bru with a Roundabout, I'm going to score this video 8 out of 8 unusual battles. Pubs have been given the go ahead to reopen, with certain safety measures, on 4th July. I think I would pick fish and chips as the winner because we have a great local shop. After watching this I'm starving and for some reason am thinking of scrambled eggs on toast. When you get back here all of your subscribers will treat you to a pint of cider in a local pub and a fish and chip lunch. So glad it is garden peas over mushy peas even though that wasn't an official battle. Looking forward to your next video soon.

Fish and chips from a proper traditional chippie. With either mushy peas, gravy or curry sauce. What about scollops or battered sausages. Has she tried those. We have here in the Midlands lightly battered chips. Orange chips.
@MS-194 жыл бұрын
The real question when it comes to mushy peas is "vinegar or not?" Marco Pierre White, the award winning chef born and bred in Yorkshire, has suggested that one should taste the peas as they come, then add the vinegar to take them to another dimension. He also likes to assemble a chip butty with any bread and butter that comes on the side, though he admits that this always feels like a mistake afterwards, because you end up feeling so full that you cannot manage all the fish.

Pubs and Fish n Chips, perfect. Currently sat at home, it's gorgeous outside and I'm thinking about the Cefn Mabley Arms located between Cardiff and Newport where they do amazing Fish n Chips and they have a beautiful beer garden. It would be perfect to be there right now but alas they are currently closed. Never mind, bbq later and I have some Herefordshire cider (Westons) chilling in the fridge! Thanks for another entertaining video, great fun. Tea was the winner in its round as far as I'm concerned!

Best pub I (a londoner) ever went to was a pub in Widdicombe Devon. It was a real licensed pub, but it was literally someone's front room. We followed this hulking guy who had obviously just come from plowing a field or something, and drank cider in front of a fire, listening to a small bunch of locals talking with deep Devonshire accents we could barely understand a single word of. It could not possibly have been any more authentic; it felt like we were back in the 13th century or something.

The best way to look at roundabouts is as a one way road, which it is. So you're either trying to join or leaving a busy one way road. One of the reasons they are not popular state side is because when they had them in the 1920, but they put traffic lights on them, which caused a lot of accidents and that is where the distrust of them comes from.

I knew that the pub would win from the start but watched it through anyway as very entertaining. You are absolutely right of course. The pubs are still shut so you aren't missing out right now. Hopefully the pub gardens will be open soon. It's been too long!

I would be torn between Full English breakfast & Fish 'n' Chips but seeing as I can cook the same breakfast here in Adelaide (Australia), I'd choose Fish 'n' Chips as my No.1 (This is based on my 'recent' holiday to the UK in 2018 where eating fish 'n' chips on the Whitby seafront was indeed a highlight of our trip) coupled with the fact that fish 'n' chips in Australia just don't measure up at all ! Love you video Alana & hope you enjoyed your cider in your home pub garden !

That drift off into fish n chips heaven :) Fish n chips and a beer garden, the natural order of things, but the Sunday roast only loses out because it's just once a week🍗😋

I've come to love seeing your happy face on Tuesdays, Alanna! Those are interesting selections. Queuing has become even more of a thing in the Coronavirus era. On busy days, it can take as long as half an hour to get into a supermarket... I'm slightly sad that the roast dinner lost out to fish and chips, if only because, way back in Tudor times, England's roasts were the culinary envy of Europe ... but fish and chips is the stuff of many a nostalgic moment from childhood, seaside trip and Friday outing. Why force yourself to choose between the pub and the breakfast? You can get a really great breakfast in some pubs, as well as great fish and chips and even sausage rolls in some areas. British Museum = a good time. Tube = necessary endurance. However, it is distinctive; London wouldn't be London without it! I'm with you on the sausage roll - definitely preferable to the chip butty! Roll on the autumn - your British fans are almost as impatient to have you back as you are to return! Maybe see you in a pub when you make it over?

Irn Bru sugar free met with a pretty poor reception in Scotland. Then they brought out Irn Bru Xtra - which is the Irn Bru version of things like Pepsi Max and Coke Zero, i.e. it tastes like the original, but is still low in sugar. I have to admit that Irn Bru sugar free tastes a little 'thin' in flavour to me, but I can't tell much difference between the tastes of Irn Bru original and Irn Bru Xtra.

Great fun and probably the correct result. It's definitely more of a social thing than alcohol thing going to the pub. I was watching this drinking a pint of Westons Old Rosie, formerly 7.3% but now down to 6.8% ! It's a dry, cloudy scrumpy from Herefordshire. If you're ever in Much Marcle, go visit the cider mill. They do tours and have a great restaurant area. Thanks for the video. Regards from southern England, West Sussex, not Kent !

That worked brilliantly! I loved the "going with your gut" pun between Fish and Chips and Roast Dinner. 🤣. I continue to marvel at you appreciation of British Pubs I have never seen someone who isn't an alcoholic love them so much!

I'm in Australia. Some of our country pubs are pretty good, but for consistent great welcoming atmosphere, good food, and beer that's at least ok, you can't beat a British pub. Almost any one of them would rate high on my scale.

I'm happy that the pub won. Now, there's fish 'n' chips and fish and chips! The first one is what we Yorkshire folk eat - with vinegar (it's a must, otherwise it's like a roast without the gravy) and MUSHY peas, not garden peas. The fish should be haddock, comes without the skin on and boned. An additional accompaniment would be wi' bits on (also called scraps). All other fish and chips from around the UK cannot hold a candle to the Yorkshire variety.
