Also, I love the perspective that when a ride is down for refurbishment or repairs during my visit, it’s simply evidence of Disney “plus-ing”. Great point!

Man, I spent 14 years playing music for a living, and this was always my philosophy. We could write songs and they'd be great...perfect for what they were...but I always wanted to do better (and that still continues in my present mundane jobs). The point you've reached perfection in your mind... there's no place left to go but down. Keep striving for a better perfect.

Love your points about the cynics. Great words about criticism. As a designer who receives criticism everyday from non-designers with no design education, I try to keep in mind that they may be wrong about what is wrong or how to fix it -- but there is something off that should be looked at.

Hey Brickie, I would highly recommend the book Three Years in Wonderland: The Disney Brothers, C. V. Wood, and the Making of the Great American theme park It’s Such a well written and researched book. it gives you such deep insight into Walt Disney mindset when he was creating the park. Also, it’s one of the best books when it comes to showing the pure logistics of how the park got made in such a short time. It does a really great job of humanizing Walt Disney his struggles with park but his never ending creativity and the love his big brother had to make anything Walt wanted happen ( like completely changing how movie studios worked with television broadcasting). It’s a really good read. I am very well read when it comes too the park’s history and this book has stuff that I never heard before. This book really speaks too what your doing with this new series on your channel

The opening of this video makes me wonder if Walt would have taken advantage of current technology and re-release opportunities to “plus” his movies, like George Lucas tried to do with the “Special Editions” of the Star Wars movies. And I wonder how much grief he would have gotten for it?

Hey Brickey, have you done any videos about the Disneyland landscaping horticulture - the trees, shrubs, flower gardens, and even bonsai that graces the grounds of Disneyland? I am so curious about how the trees are tended and kept in balance with the scale of the park.

In reference to the changing of attractions as opposed to movies and using Snow White as the example: The Pro is that you can have updated and upgraded effects over time, but the Con is how they have edited the rides over time, like Snow White’s not to be as scary, or the changes to Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately this diminishes the overall distinct value of the original rides, taking features away over time and not plussing them like they should, understandably because they are 50 year old rides, but still. If you’re going to take something away it should be to replace it with something twice as good, that’s my Walt Disney mentality.

The parks are definitely something that should evolve and improve and 'plus'. The movies themselves should probably be left alone. Save the updating for the next one. Totally get why George Lucas would want to make the additions he did to Star Wars. But he should've at least kept the original vision available. Those movies were a product of their time and should stay that way.

This is a great video because it highlights the best of Walt’s vision keep building and keep making improvements. Whatever made is never actually going to be completely perfect just perfect enough to actually show with fans that will know it’s perfect. Honestly, in a way I am also a perfectionist but even I know perfectionist aren’t really that perfect. Which is pretty much why I’m skeptical about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in concept art it seems like the perfect idea, but in reality it may not actually be the perfect draw that they are looking for which if it’s not then it’s actually up to what’s behind big thunder railroad or Disney forward to actually have something that can draw people in otherwise there isn’t going to be much traffic in that area.

When you change the video title/thumbnail, why do you do it or what metrics are you basing it on? Do you have a program set up to change it automatically and ‘test out’ a few alternatives to see which performs best? And if so how accurate/useful are the numbers? Curious to learn :-)

I don’t know… tomorrowland hasn’t really been plussed in 2 decades, though they have tried, too much has been mothballed. I am still a little miffed abandoning the country bears of Mineral Springs with Winnie the Pooh in a somewhat abandoned appendix of park pathway. Don’t get me wrong, I am still with you. Why? Just look at the park of the past versus today… holidayland where Walt discovered the fantasy of a circus was not as family friendly and dirty as he remembered. But having a less smelly french quarter is quite the more romantic than reality. He kept changing things up to his death… WDI really had struggled until they could not ignore the social criticism of popular rides as of late… i think Lassiter actually woke Glendale up quite a bit to how slow the have moved post Walt, and that change doesn’t need to be large to be effective.
