Stuff always gets run over! I parked our ready mix truck and put my lunchbox on the front bumper. I went in and told the mechanic that I had a flat. He said bring it in the shop. I brought the truck inside but forgot and ran over my lunchbox! I did salvage a fork!

An insignificant thing I noticed (amazing what we pay attention to) - every time the claw takes the cars off your trailer - then you roll off the scrap tires - you always give the claw operator a little wave ( I suspect it is your way to say "thanks" ) but the thing is - the claw operator is never looking in your direction when you wave - so he doesn't see the "thank you wave". It is not a big deal - just something that I noticed. Country Courtesy !
@AdventuresMadeFromScratch2 жыл бұрын
Basically an “I’m done” wave. I do the same before he starts unloading to let him know it’s unchained and ready to go. Not a big deal if he sees it or not because he knows I do it every time 😆

That last time you picked up and put over by the wheels while loading the van with scrap. That was a kneading hook for a Hobert commercial mixer. You might want to put that in your eBay stuff to sell. They bring really good money. Depending on the mixer it is for. Anywhere from $50 to $250.00 used. Happy Anniversary.

youre a madman for crushing stuff like that good running short bed durango. i know for a fact stuff like that is still worth quite a bit more than its scrap value
@AdventuresMadeFromScratch2 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, but only if you don’t consider the time factor. I can crush 10 cars in the time it would take to sell 1 car, so unfortunately crushing is what happens. Plus selling old “running” vehicles is a good way to make people hate you. Transmission goes out 2,000 miles later and naturally it’s your fault 😆

No you don’t have to take off the parts on that 9-n Ford , it is two bolts in the front of the motor down low , and it come right off in you hand 🤚 no problem, you will just need to unbolt the wires and mark the plug wires, it’s easy to put points in it, good job, thanks BigAl California, that 9-n Ford in that condition is worth 3000, dollars out here, 5,000 if you paint and put a Gannon blade on the rear, nice 👍 thanks BigAl thanks you.

100%, I get it you don't have time to part things out. But, if you had someone come in and set up their own business of dealing with parts it could end up saving you time. For example: if a guy came in and remove the tires from the cars you wouldn't have to do it. Then he could sell all the tires and rims possibly by the truckload to someone else who would resell them. And you would not have to throw them in cars where they're not wanted. And, he would have to pay you 20%. To me that sounds like a four-way win.
@AdventuresMadeFromScratch2 жыл бұрын
We have contracted out to countless individuals to handle used parts for us including tires, and it always turns into a disaster or worse unfortunately.
@DaveDeVault2 жыл бұрын
So, why not get a bigger pickup truck and a goose neck trailer for hauling more cars to the shredder? In theory they should 1) increase your productivity by being able to haul more cars and 2) pay for themselves with the increase.

A lot of his non-collectible cars are stacked 2 or 3 high, it would be crazy to let customers climb around on them to remove parts. If you volunteer to buy him 40-80 acres and then follow the customers around to prevent theft, and pay his insurance increase if they get hurt, maybe he would sell parts. A you-pick-it parts operation is a whole different ballgame than moving a huge amount of cars through a few acre yard for scrap. He'd need a ton more space to be parting out cars beyond the collectible ones he keeps around a while.
