Thanks so much for your support,
The adventure continues.
Safe sailing.
Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

Very calm with a dragging anchor and shoals nearby. I can just imagine how dangerous that would be with a bigger sea or sudden squall. I do appreciate the insights into life at sea, such as how you keep clean.

The thing "rather special" you are looking for are close to WWII bunkers on that walk. There are a few on the island. Good scuba diving (soft corals and good marine life) although rather shallow in Radical Bay too. Also the remains of Moltke Wreck is a good shallow site near the old car ferry ramp. Kelso reef approx 65nm ENE offers fantastic reef diving. Cheers, BobbyB.

I would not survive on the boat for long. I need to move quite a bit to feel OK. If I was forced to, I would improvise something to make the pushbike used for exercise. If so, it would be awesome to connect it to the propeller. If the boat is moving it would reduce the drag. In windless weather exercising for an hour would get the boat along for like 2km. Once it gets going it should be easy. Something at least to fight boredom.

Hi Barry, in re. to your leg you absolutely have to massage it, hold the swollen part of the body above the level of the heart several times a day. Sometimes, raising the swollen area during sleep can be helpful. Stroking the affected area toward the heart using firm, but not painful, pressure might help move fluid out of that area, also switch to vegetarian and eat a bowl of lettuce every night if you can buy some somewhere which cleans the blood and unblocks arteries.. Cut out sugar for the next few weeks which helps clean your blood and also purchase some EDTA tablets which are detox tablets and also unblock arteries, I took them for a month and got all my energy back when I was dead tired once. Stay away from any processed meats which are apparently not good to eat at all, with crap in them that make it impossible for your system to digest properly, anything with any chemicals in it is bad for your leg and your health!. Additives, colorant, etc I would even cut out coffee and replace with tea for the next few weeks.. Add raw garlic to your vegetable salads every day when you get some, which is a natural anti-biotic, stick to oil and balsamic vinegar dressing only! Also add humus and olives on rice in the morning which is better than bread! All the best!

We used to call that a Joy Bath. Joy was a popular dishwashing soap in the US in the early 80s. The trick was lather up, jump in, and get right back out. Just enough to get the lather off. The soap leftover residue repelled the sticky salt. Well, mostly. Joy seemed to be traditional and worked best.

Hello Sea Dog Skipper. If you drag with a Mason anchor and his boat is a steel ball, that makes me think that the size of your anchor and weight ARE NOT CORRECT, IF THE TYPE OF ANCHOR IS THE BEST FOLLOWING THE MANTUS.

This may be a stupid question for anyone who is a sailor, but on sleeping while you're cruising solo. If you had your radar scoped in for maybe 3 miles and a A.I.S. system working could you not sleep for a couple hours at a time. On other vlogs l have seen 12 minute timers for sleeping. I think that would drive me bonkers. Any answers are appreciated. Another good video Barry Cheers Mate.
@edrussell7960
@edrussell7960 8 ай бұрын
As a responsible sailor, no, you could not. As a solo sailor, you have to be aware at all times of everything going on in your area. Thus, in ten to twenty minute snooze breaks, you get up and do a quick look about for anything of concern. Be it a ship, island, or floating debris in the water, etc. I don't think radar would indicate floating logs or such. Plus one needs to be sure of weather changes and also make sure your going the correct direction. Two or three hours heading in the wrong direction, even just a couple of degrees could put you into bad places like shoals or on the rocks. Of course in the middle of the ocean, you could be a bit more generous. Hope this helps some. Peace

It's crucially important for single handers to be able to motor up on the anchor while simultaneously retrieving the rode with the windlass. Run control wires to the helm and a momentary on spring loaded switch. Failure to retrieve an anchor is one of the main causes of single handers losing their boat.
