That's good to include information about when the footage was shot, exactly for those reasons that people want to get ideas about current conditions. One time I asked Kraig Adams about it and he just snapped back like "dude, it says right there when I posted it". Maybe he didn't realize people can post videos from years ago if they with to. Oh well...

What a great rendition and great memory of a place at which some of us spent so much time. The hut still looks the same. What so many people often refer to as 'back in the day', some of us MCA members would spend Thanksgiving up there by skiing in and hauling small sleds, loaded with food including a turkey. As you may know, the 'Bomber Glacier' got its name because some military aircraft crashed on that glacier and is still there. One one occasion I pulled one of the light bulbs, took it home and hooked it to a battery. It still worked, which is amazing after a 'landing' like that. Keep up the joyful reports : - )

@@AdventuresofAplusK We only had time to visit the North side, but it was cool because there were very few people. Just getting to that place was intense...it's in the middle of nowhere on dirt roads through ranch-land with no signs until you get right up on it. Thank God for Google Maps! The first overlook we visited was "Chasm View" and when we rolled up to the overlook it was incredible. The sheer depth of the canyon was something we had never experienced before and we felt it with our whole bodies. Truly incredible place. Wish we could've hiked down to the river like you guys, but we'll have to save that for another day.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Yes it is in the middle of nowhere that's for sure! The North side is definitely the least visited of the two. An easy way to get down into the canyon is to drive the East Portal road. I think that's the name. It was closed when we visited. But ya if you do a hike down we'd recommend the Gunnison route. It's the best introductory one we've read. But still very tough! And ya you're right, the sheerness of the walls and how deep it is so mind blowing! Glad y'all could see it!

We are planning to attempt to hike to the hut July first week. Do you think that the conditions would be good and also do you know if there are any bears on this route?
@AdventuresofAplusK3 ай бұрын
I’m not sure about the conditions currently, but bears are very possible!

They reminded us of the Tetons as well!

Alaska hikers would likely wear Xtratuff boots on this trail...you can buy them at the local Fred Meyers. In AK, they are suitable footwear for all occassions.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
yes they would've come in handy for this one!

Love watching all your adventure. You guys are awesome. My only question is why don't you have harness for Kona? A collar leash isn't the best.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Kona has many behavioral issues and was sent to an extensive board and train program and was trained specifically on those collars. We trust our trainers to ensure Kona is safe!
@bpfeiffer332 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresofAplusK Omg thank you so much for responding and explaining about the harness.. I didn't mean any disrespect, and I am sorry if it came off that way. Just finished watching your last video. Happy birthday Catherine.

No worries! It's a valid question. We took Kona to Flash Dog Training and they did a fantastic job with her. Thank you so much, Belinda!

hi! thanks for the video. Do people need to worry about bears and is carrying a bear canister required?
@AdventuresofAplusK Жыл бұрын
Yes you definitely need to worry about bears. I don’t know if it’s required to carry it, but I wouldn’t go out there without it! Thanks and thanks for watching

Sorry about the wasps. That would be a hike I couldn't do. How were able to sleep in the tent with it being so light outside? I know you have black out shades in the van.

Check out local outdoor retailers in Anchorage - AMH and Hoarding Marmot for gear and food. As for local outdoor food suppliers, check out Heather's Choice and Elevated Oats. Also, thanks for mentioning that the Mint Hut is owned by the Mountaineering Club of Alaska (MCA) and that membership is required. Too many blogs and vlogs forget to state this. It's a $20pp membership. Donate to this local nonprofit to use this cabin.

That's a good tip for the local spots. We should've branched out from REI. We had heard of Elevated Oats through our friends podcast, The Pursuit of Happiness. He had them on an episode! Wish we would've tried it! Yes we thought that was important to mention!
