I agree. As an AK resident, you guys have done the best video series of the state of anyone out there. You videos leaving you wanting more. You actually learn about stuff before doing it and don't half-ass things. You hike, fish, and eat. And you share about the Alaska Native culture which I haven't seen from anyone else not targeting that niche. Bravo!

Beautiful morning kayaking on Eklutna Lake. Props to ATT to let people on their private property to do the hike. I imagine their concern is liability if someone falls. 1000 feet per mile is the same gradient as the last 3 miles coming out of the Grand Canyon on the Bright Angel trail, only the BA isn't scrambling over boulders.

Yes it is great they allow people on the property to hike because it gives such a great perspective of the glacier! 1000 per mile is no joke!

You 2 have done a great justice to Alaska in all these videos and so lucky with the weather. Right now we/AK(I live in Chugiak across highway from where you hit Eklutna Lake) is having record rains now, August 85% of the month was rain and it is still raining almost nearly every day. Third highest rainfall since 1989 right now. P.S. I am originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan....The Pasty, we eat them with Ketchup mostly helps with the dryness:) Glad you visited the UP! - Caryn

I watched so many Travelers, mostly people who are vanlifers who are traveling through the United States and Canada and Mexico, and so many of their videos have been so disappointing. Ninety-nine percent of these people tend to skip over so much and show very little, but you both show so much in each one of your videos, and you get spectacular footage. Until you added the weather forecast at the end I planned to comment on the amazing weather with blue skies yours had. But you’ve overall had great weather. Beautiful views, some muddy challenges and a little rain. Any complete rained days we don’t know about? I heard a comment on another KZbinr channel that their friend had an awful experience while in Alaska. Rained hard every day while he was there with complete cloud cover that he couldn’t see or do anything. Can’t predict weather but it can ruin an experience. Glad you’re enjoying your trip.

We got really lucky with the weather. We had enough flexibility to move around our adventures for "better" weather days. Just about every day we weren't filming it was raining pretty hard all day long. In our next video the weather wasn't very pleasant, but again the rain held off just enough for us to be able to film, but the views weren't what we had hoped for much of it. We definitely experienced lots of rain while there!

Most informative, scenic and enjoyable vid. Great air pump, could you recommend? You two might be too young to remember the Exxon Valdez 'Oil Spill' (more like a total oil dump) that occurred in Prince William Sound's Bligh Reef (off Bligh Island) at the mouth of the channel leading to the port of Valdez. ~ "The Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred in Prince William Sound, Alaska, on March 24, 1989, when Exxon Valdez, an oil tanker bound for Long Beach, California, struck Prince William Sound's Bligh Reef at 12:04 a.m. local time and spilled 11 to 38 million US gallons (260,000 to 900,000 bbl; 42,000 to 144,000 m3) of crude oil over the next few days. It is considered to be one of the most devastating human-caused environmental disasters. The Valdez spill was the largest in US waters until the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, in terms of volume released. However, Prince William Sound's remote location, accessible only by helicopter, plane, or boat, made government and industry response efforts difficult and severely taxed existing plans for response. The region is a habitat for salmon, sea otters, seals and seabirds."

When you were loading up this video, you were probably thinking, 'Some jerk is going to say he has Verizon and got through to AT&T at the Lion's Head Trail.' Well, um... I'm that jerk! But I had totally different weather when I did it back on July 11, so maybe the cell reception was affected. It was really overcast, and I was rained on coming back down the trail (yep, serves me right :) ). But the sunny weather you had for Lion's Head was what I had for Pepper Peak, which is definitely a trail to be done when you first get to Alaska, not after lots of intense hiking, so I think your instincts served you well there. My legs were fresh for Pepper Peak, and they needed to be, especially when you're staring at another 1500 feet elevation gain with a mile to go. I love all the footage on the drive to Valdez! Everything about driving around that whole Glenallen to Chitina corridor along the Richardson Highway is magical. I went by that Ahtna HQ a number of times. I didn't go south of Chitina / McCarthy Road, so I'm looking forward to what you discover next!

@jameswaldecker12362 жыл бұрын
Haha! I also have an Android. Maybe that factored in? Perhaps? Ah, we'll never know! :) I was proud to conquer that beast! I could see Palmer up there on Pepper Peak, as well as the Matanuska River (Lion's Head was a closer view of the river, of course). Eklutna Lake was waaay down there. :) The Twin Peaks and Knik Arm were off to the west. It was gorgeous! Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to all things Wrangell, and reliving that whole region!

In this guide we share our top recommendations for Valdez: adventuresofaplusk.com/things-to-do-in-valdez-alaska And this video from Valdez as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnu2hIt7mL2bZsU We thinks it's worth it, but it is a drive!

Just came back from our trip to Utah, sooo happy to see three new episodes! Your Alaska adventure is getting better and better, sometimes I feel it’s like a mixture of Banff, Jasper, Glacier NP…… Mountains, lakes, glaciers, just amazing! Can’t believe it has been almost two months, curious to know how many miles have you covered so far in Alaska? 🥰🥰🥰

We hope you had a great trip! The summer has flown by for us. Probably around 6k miles! 😅
@jamesenloe27912 жыл бұрын
I thought that stretch was the best too. Other than a horrible halibut fishing trip, I had the best time in Valdez.

Don't now how you guys manage to get such "clean" footage from inside the car. Any bugs/debris is hardly noticeable and little to no reflections. As always, thanks for sharing. 😁

We try to clean the windshield often and almost always film in slomo when driving. Kathryn does a great job with it! Thank you!

We are looking into it and are hoping to get it when we get back to Texas over the holidays! It wouldn't have helped us much for our Alaska trip because it doesn't work north of about half through British Columbia

You can see the Sphinx shape of Lions Head only when driving West towards Anchorage. I like how two highlight to call AT&T for that hike. So many other bloggers and vloggers skip all of the details. The Wrangell Mountains viewpoint is great on a clear day. I think I've only seen all of them twice. 😂 As always great cinematography and sharing some Alaska Native culture at Eklutna. Are you guys going to McCarthy afterwards before leaving the state?
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
Ah ok. We were trying to look back at it when we were driving away and thought mayyybe we could see it, but still weren't sure. Ya we had to try to call a couple times and almost gave up on it and thought we were going to have to skip it. Thankfully the phone rang! We were a little bummed on that drive when there was so much cloud cover, but that's how it goes! We wished we could've visited Eklutna and shared it more, but just didn't have time. We're glad we could at least highlight it a bit. Yes, we went to McCarthy and Wrangell-St. Elias. Polishing off that video edit this weekend!

@@AdventuresofAplusK You can see a beautiful view of Mt. Drum just above the highway with 12k ft of prominence about 20 miles heading east towards Glennallen on a clear day. It's beautiful and quite the sight. Yay for the McCarthy video. Excited to see it. I also just noticed that you haven't been north to Delta Junction, stopped at the roadhouses, Fairbanks, Chena Hot Springs, Arctic Circle, Atigun Pass, Prudhoe Bay, the Denali Highway, or Top of the World Highway. This state is HUGE and that's just the road system. Unfortunately western Alaska is being ravaged by hurricane-like winds and flooding right now and under a state of emergency. Many in these Alaska Native communities have lost their houses and boats (livelihood) as they are sheltering in schools. It's only accessible by air.
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
We would've loved to have seen it! I don't think we were able to that day. We did go to Delta Junction at one point in our journey, but weren't vlogging that day. We weren't able to visit some of those areas you mentioned due to lack of time. COVID took some of our time unfortunately. Actually our first adventure in the state was the Denali Highway and we had planned to make a video about it, but we were having a rough day and it was foggy and smoky and didn't think it would be a very good video so we ended up cutting it. We did one hike off the highway and will share it in our Alaska recap video in a few weeks. Stay tuned for the Top of the World Highway and Arctic Circle (but in Canada). Yes we're thinking about Western Alaska and hope there is a quick recovery!
