Well, guys, I just wanted to say first off that I'm sorry you're having to go through all this with Alastair's mom. But just realize that the older you get, the more you're gonna have to go through stuff like this. Trust me, I know. I'm 65 now and both my parents are gone, both my sisters are gone and my husband of 26 years passed away exactly 11 years ago today. So life is rough, and yes, I've got a ton of nieces and nephews, but like Alastair said, everybody has lives of their own and are all going in different directions and it's so hard to get everybody on one page, it almost never happens. Just know that you're in my thoughts and you're in my prayers. And I hope that things get a little easier for you. Because you are still very young. Thanks for all the videos you do, and thanks for letting us be a part of your lives. Love ya both 💞

I was my mom's caretaker for about 5 years. She was diagnosed with early dementia, and it got harder - because I had no family/friends back up support system. Just a thought. Some places/facilities ARE bad, but there are many good places. Research is key. Also, I had gotten the recommendation for her assisted living facility from the home health people that were helping her out. I'm sorry, Alastair. What you're about to go through is going to be tough, but with Zach, family, and friends, you have people who love your momma and you. Hugs from a fan. :o)

I feel this same struggle with having the time and money to see family especially when my partner and I don’t live in the same city with our family. Alastair especially touched upon this and his reflecting whether his sentiments about having no time between all his other commitments to see loved ones is an obstacle or whether that’s a mental block not letting you get over the fact that we COULD make the time if we plan everything out better and follow through. Such a balancing act.

I'm a seventh generation Texan who escaped to New York shortly after graduating from UT Austin. In Manhattan, I laid the foundation for a successful career and fell in love with the man who became my husband. After 10 years, he wanted the experience of living in a different part of the country. We agreed on San Francisco and have been here over 25 years. We both work remotely so are starting to think about our next stage. We've discussed selling our SF townhouse and moving where we can buy a house outright. I've made it clear to my parents and brother, who are in San Antonio, that I'll never live down there again because of the regressive politics and terrible climate. My parents are both 87 this year and starting to have health issues. We offered to look for a place with an ADR so they could move in, letting us care for them. However, they refuse to consider leaving Texas. It may sound harsh but I don't feel guilty. I've had professional and romantic successes that wouldn't have happened if I'd stayed stayed tied to my extended family in Texas. Put yourselves first. The rest will fall into place.

Really a sweet tribute to the love you share. The stress you feel is real and the good thing is that you know that many other people are going through the same thing. I completely understand how you guys can feel so stressed about keeping the family close and also trying to live your own lives. One of the advantages of the technology today is the ability to communicate easily over large distances. I know it sounds simple minded, but take advantage of Zoom and video share apps with family far away. It is also very tough to help plan those changes in the lives of our elderly family and friends. Keeping people at home is less expense only if they are somewhat independent. If they require medical attention or have memory issues, that can be a FULL TIME JOB. Yes, care facilities are notoriously expensive, so be careful. Be informed. You might want to talk to an attorney about how assets can be saved. Sorry this is so long, just trying to help my friends who have given so much to me. Love to you Zach and Alastair. 💜💜💜
