i guess is how real and lovely people are. I was born in Ecuador, but my parents are Chinese, so they decided to send me back to China when i was 3. however, they had to keep their business in Ecuador running, so they stayed in Ecuador meanwhile I was in China. when i was in China, a lot of people came help to take care of me for my parents, even the teachers in the school were giving me the attention that i needed. I am truly thankful that i grew up in China. the good people there taught me how to be a good perso. I was 3 and i barely knew how to speak any Chinese, but my neighbors and my family in China really liked me. I was really shy because my parents were not with me, but the people are always friendly and helpful

How friendly and welcoming everyone is towards foreigners, how amazing and affordable the food is, and how HUGE the cities are in comparison to other countries. Also, I love how affordable and comfortable it is to travel by bullet train, and I love how affordable fresh produce is here. Buying my veggies at a market from a specific vendor that I can get to know instead of a big store is different for me and really nice. Also, this is a little random, but there are so many types of mushrooms here!! I was NOT a mushroom fan in America, but I love them here!

In 2010 when I arrived in Chongqing, the college car which supposed to pickup me up was late (later I found out it was in accident), 'so late' that I was waiting at the same location for over 6 hours! There was this "guy" already noticed that I was in trouble and day light was leaving me alone there! I was terrified, but after long 'stood up' I tried my 'chinglish' and took help from that guy! He already asked me 10times if he can help me! But you know new country new people! Anyway till date whenever I leave Chongqing or visit again I call him to pickup me up! @Ben Louis The problem with you folks is that you listened to too many western propaganda. Please remember that the US is so fearful that China will overtake them as number one that they spread faked news on China. Google for Turkestan Islamic Party to learn more about the Uyghurs and what they have done to the Chinese. Tibetans are happy why listen to faked news. Search for, "Where's Poppy" in KZbin. She recently posted on her trips to Tibets. Do you you know Hong Kong's history well? Were you aware that Hong Kong was stolen by the British several hundred years ago? Before it was stolen, Hong Kong was was part of China. After the British return Hongkong to China, it is part of China now. If you support the Hong Kong terrorists, it means that you supported the murder of a 70 year old man by these terrorists. They also burned a 57 year old man because he has different views from them. So you're supporting these terrorists activities?

I Just got my permit residence 1 week ago and went directly to the bankoffice so for now on i can pay with Wechat and Alipay now. And i can say it’s so convenient and satisfied to pay electronic. It makes your life a lot easier. I think to have a bankcard is one of the most important things while you’re in china for longer than 1 month. During the first weeks i also had to pay cash everytime. Some shops even don’t want to have cash anymore and some can’t change because they haven’t enough spare change.

@christimoody Жыл бұрын
It is definitely interesting to hear Elle's perspective of China not being dirty or overcrowded like western media portrays. I think Shenzhen might be its own little spot of newness! So much of China, from my experiences living in Hangzhou and traveling around in the north has been extremely crowded, dirty - people spitting and even kids pooping on the streets, no personal space, people shoving my 4 year old daughter out of the way and no regards or respect if she fell over - they would just step over her. Parents and grandparents openly spanking their children or hitting them on the head if they misbehaved. Taking buses and trains transport, people all had their phones on full volume, no earphones, very noisy. Unfortunately people were openly racist - signs on English schools read "White Teachers Only". And taking my daughter (mixed race) out in public - hearing many comments along the lines of "She's so pretty, its too bad her father is black". Being hospitalised with a stomach parasite, the overcrowded Emergency room had one toilet only, with no soap or toilet paper - and that was in hospital. IV was administered whilst I was sitting in a queue of people, and nurses didn't clean the area on my hand before sticking the needle in. We were lined up like cattle, sitting in rows with our IV drips in waiting to get a bed. it was filthy and the doctors and nurses went from one patient to another without washing their hands. My experience in China was quite a culture shock, and I had been living and working in Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) for many years previous. Even with all the extremely challenging circumstances, we enjoyed most of our time in China. But our experience was polar opposite from those living in Shenzhen. It looks like Shenzhen is the place to be for a more western, clean and respectful experience! So from all my experiences - the western media was extremely accurate, if not showing a lot nicer China, than where we traveled and lived. I need to check it out Shenzhen now!

Happy new year, Amy. For foreigners who are going to China, China is cracking down on foreign teachers who doesn’t have a working visa( or a degree in teaching), some other foreigners in China mentioned that in their video, and it is a good thing cause back then it’s just filled with random foreigners. And as for vpn on the phone, there’s a lot of free vpn for phones which it is good tool for foreigners when you connect to a WiFi and wanted to browse western social media. That is totally fine. ( if it is a Android phone that you, it work much better, cause iPhone does put in some restrictions on vpn)

Is it problematic to use them as a foreigner ? I know it's not legal but is it normal /widespread to use ?
@ChaseYu4 жыл бұрын
Foufou I don’t know where you get the idea of “not legal”, but as there is tons of foreigners living, working as well learning in China, and travelers too. Most of them if not all use vpn. I have free mobile vpn in my phones which I use to browse KZbin when I was in China. Using vpn isn’t exactly illegal as other said, while some people does claim that local people can’t sell vpn or devices that offer vpn as a business in China ( but that also isn’t exactly being confirmed in any way that I can find ). (Free mobile) VPN simply helps you connect to the western social media when connected to a local WiFi in China, and if you are using your 4G data, you can also browse the internet without any interruption too( even when you are using the Chinese mobile phones tower for its signal). The major mobile carriers in the US have a cooperation with China’s telecom companies to let their customers using their 4G data in China. And not just China, other countries too. As far as I know, traveling in China, Macao and Hong Kong with US sim that have a international’s roaming plan can use 4G in all three places without much problem.

My first impression of China was in a toilet in Beijing Airport and it wasnt 100% pleasant so I wont go into that. But once leaving the airport I was stunned by the friendliness of the people and the cleanliness of the streets. One thing I would note that could be daunting for folk is that Chinese people (particularly older generations) love to have their photos taken with anybody with blonde or red hair. So if you have either of those be prepared mentally for that. There is absolutely nothing malicious in it but they are just fascinated but coming from a Western country where you would never take pictures of strangers in this way it is something to be aware of.

I feel like with the cost issues for college educations in the US, maybe try to go to China for college education, you might still need student loans, but with much less debt after you graduate in China due to lower education and living expense. Then work in China for several years to payoff the debt, and you got work experience in China, probably also learnt to speak Chinese, then go elsewhere as you wish. You can start your life as you would after graduation from a US college, but without a lot of debt? Is this possible or worth doing?

I always watch vloggers based in China like Barrett etc. but they’re more on political side ( I don’t watched they’re political views but they have travels, so I watched that!) before that I watched Li Ziqi or Dainxi Xaioge it’s more on living in rural. I am searching a Filipino vibe (Philippines) travels who are based in China but I can’t see any. Then I saw you on a timeline. I tried to watch and now I’m hooked!! I super love your vids, so informative and bubbly, you’re always smiling! 🙌🏼👍🏼 I subs to you when 112k subs and now u have 114k while watching this content of yours! Btw, it’s on my 3rd day watching all your content fr very beginning. I’m a Filipino married to a Chinese. He’s fr Dongguan. Hoping you can put that in your travel list next time. Also Shandong, Dencheng Dist. (If that’s correct) It’s a good history of a Filipino Sultan way back 1417 to travel China to met the Emperor. It’s my first time to write a long comment in yt. Hope you read this. Thank you! Take care!

Scottish accent is unique, you either get it completely or can't catch a single word. Funny thing for me is that I spent 4 years in the east coast of Scotland, but could only catch Glasgow accent with no difficulties.

'liked' Thank you for the video. It's definitely very interesting _&_ useful. Would love to see more of such. By the way, it was quite difficult to understand your first guest. Good to know *bu yao dai zi* (when you don't want a (plastic) bag). Please introduce such useful common phrases in all your videos. Thank you.

I love your videos!! It would be super interesting to here more stories about people who move to China and what they do. Like are there jobs besides teaching English?

First time watching your vids and you've already made an impression on me. American born Chinese here, but for some reason, I've never been interested in visiting China. I've been to Japan and Korea, but never been to China outside of Hong Kong, which doesn't really count in my opinion. Watching your vids has definitely piqued my interest in visiting China. For a 2 week trip, what would be the your recommended places to visit. Trying different foods would definitely be a one of my top priorities, but I'm afraid of getting sick with my delicate American stomach. 😔

YES, this interests me-especially since my primary income will be going into a US Bank, (at least for awhile). Any tips on using a MasterCard Debit card in..mostly the Tier 1 cities? (Beijing & Shenzhen..hopefully Chengdu at some point, my “dream city” 😁). My Chinese friends had said that it won’t be a problem-but I’m hearing VERY different things from ex-Pats.

elaineg60 if you have a US credit card then you can use WeChat pay. If you don’t... then it’s better to bring cash

Julian Ouyang Actually, one of my friends called yesterday and explained the recent changes and how Alibaba and the bank of Shanghai just started making it much easier! There’s a website called abacus that has step by step instructions. There’s still some restrictions, but our friend at the consulate said that by the time we go, later this year; it would get even easier and they’ll be increasing the max. (I think right now, you can only put about $247USD on what is basically like a prepaid credit card) One thing I’ve learned is China is changing so quickly that foreigners need to constantly check for changes to VISA’s, and almost everything related to moving or visiting this beautiful country! Thank goodness my Son knows people in the embassy whose job it is is to keep up with the rapid changes and reforms. Sometimes though, even they are caught off guard! I’m getting SO excited that I told my 87 year old Uncle today that we may even leave a bit earlier than planned! Of course, he thinks my Son and I have lost our minds..BUT, he’s slowly coming around! He spent time in China in the 1960’s and is having a hard time reconciling just how much, how quickly, the country has changed! “Elaine, everyone just rides bikes and it’s very difficult to get around”. 😂. I just wish he could come with us!
