I was provided a set of Tusk 2Track tires by Kyle Bradshaw, ‪@manybikes‬ . He had put 1000 miles on them and asked me to do a long term test to see how many miles I could get out of these tires. I put an additional 4000 miles on them and learned a lot about this tire. I used these tires on my Yamaha Tenere 700, which is a lower power mid size adventure bike. The bike with my camping gear weighed just over 500 pounds for context. I rode in gravel, deep gravel, hard pack dirt roads, sand and deep sand as well lots of miles on paved roads. These tires held up really well for the type of riding I do. Here are links to video done by Kyle that get into the technical specs of the tires.

Does your date code fall into the recall zone on the tires you have 5000 miles on?

@@williamgiangerusoiv1402 yes it does. The date code on the tires I used is some of the first tires manufactured. The date code was the first one listed in the recall.

Matt - hell yeah and props for collaborating with Kyle Bradshaw. The European motorcycle channels are way ahead of the US market. You are in a position to take a leading role along with Kyle and maybe one or two other people. Keep up the good work!

I like tire reviews. I cannot count how many I have watched. IMHO the majority of the guys doing the reviews are often focused on whether the tire has the very best traction, and want me to know exactly where it slots in when compared to other tires. They virtually ignore longevity, or mention it as though it's a stat unworthy of consideration. I make a conscious effort to avoid this sort of angle in my tire reviews. I like what you did here. You told us about you experience with the tire, and explained your opinion on the value. 99.9% of us do not need the very best traction, we need enough for an average rider, in the conditions the average rider will find themselves. And I sincerely appreciate your focus on value here, as our hobby is absurdly expensive, especially tires, with no end to increased costs in sight. I feel too many folks forget that most guys are paying out of pocket and have a budget! - Frank

Thanks for the thorough update brother. I have been doing a lot of testing in pretty much all conditions except for heavy rain and snow and it has been amazing in pretty much all conditions. It will always be my go to tire now. Especially at the price point and longevity. . Happy and safe riding brother. Thanks again.

@advmatt
@advmatt 3 ай бұрын
Glad you found the review helpful. Yes, these are very hard to mount. I used a Rabaconda and I mounted them for the third time and still found them difficult. I had to use tire irons with the Rabaconda. Be ready to say some four letter words getting them on. Thankfully you don't have to install tubes. I was really cussing trying to get the tubes installed. The sidewalls did not want to flex so my hands and fingers were getting pinched, especially on the front tire. it is worth it though. Cheers.

These tires are really hard to mount. The lower tire pressure will allow the side walls to break in and soften some.

I haven't decided which tires I will use on the Tuareg. I might try out the new Mitas Enduro tire to try it out. So far I am really pleased with the Tuareg. Like all bikes it has its quirks that I am learning. It rides a thoroughbred horse. It wants to go fast.

Thanks for the review. Well done! What tire pressure were you running on these? I have a set I just put on my Tuareg and the manufactures recommended front pressure is 29. That is pretty crappy on this front... I tried a few pressures and found 35psi to be the sweet spot. Maybe with tubes it may be a little different but let me know. Peace.
@advmatt

I used 28 psi in the front tire and 34 on the rear. These tires have a really stiff carcus and wanted to get some flex out it for better traction.

Matt, HELP! I’m off subject here, but would appreciate your opinion. I have a ‘22 390 Adv, with about 3600 mi on it. The check engine light is staying on and I can’t get into the dealer for 2 weeks. 1) how do I reset it? 2)should I? TIA Bike is current on service. Big fan of your channel.
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 ай бұрын
My first thought is when the last service was performed the service light was reset for a lower mileage than it should have been. For example the service reminder was set for 1000 or maybe 2000 miles causing it to come in early. If it were my bike I would try to reset the service reminder and see if it clears. Here is a link to video with instructions on how to reset your service reminder. It is at the end of the video. Thanks for the feedback. Hope this helps. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaPVo3itiKiMlc0si=7EGjMi8mnTNk1MrL

From the other front tires you've tried, is there a different one you would pick that has less of the knob fold-over on the street that you would recommend, but that still gets good performance in the dirt?
@advmatt
@advmatt 3 ай бұрын
Absolutely, the Bridgestone Battleaxe AX41 front tire is the best one I have ever used. It is great on the street and will provide really good offroad performance. The knobs are not as tall as others but the shape and spacing make it work great.

How do they hold the road on large gravel? I run alot of gravel from pea size to 3/4 or more onto of hard pack dirt (typical country road).it's been hard to find a tire that's not absolutely scary on these types of roads, currently have the shinko 804s big block knobbies and not impressed at all.been considering these or the anakee wilds
@advmatt
@advmatt 2 ай бұрын
I thought they handled these types of terrain really well. The smaller knobs of the front tire penetrates into the surface better than larger blocks. You will still get a little front wheel wobble in really loose terrain but overall it has been one of the best tires I have used off pavement.

@@advmatt so does that higher pressure can cus damage if the bike is gett I mg hard use?
@advmatt

@@walterwagner1182 using road pressure when offroad will keeps the tires harder so that impacts to the tires are less likely to also impact the wheels damaging them. Traction is sacrificed some with the harder tire but wheels are not damaged as easily.

Great question. For front tires my favorite tire is the Bridgestone Battle Axe AX41. I love the AX41 rear tire offroad but it doesn't last long on road. I don't often use this rear tire. On my KTM 390 Adventure my favorite rear tire is the Heidenau K60 scout because it doesn't have the center stripe of the other sizes and goes around 5k miles. As for tires in the 150/70R17 or 18, I haven't found a perfect tire. The Tusk 2track is pretty great especially considering the price. I am still in search of the perfect rear tire in this size. I have not tried MotoZ tires but they get great reviews. The price has kept me away. I plan to try the Mitas E07+, it has received good reviews. Hope this helps.

Hi Matt, I saw on one of my groups, Florida community of adventure riders. That one of the admin posted bulletin from the NHTSA about those tires, stating that they Are unsafe and should not be used. He has posted a screenshot however, I cannot find it anywhere else. Have you heard anything about this? I wish I could get you a link, but I can’t find it anywhere outside of this one post in the group.

@@advmatt hi Matt, I just did a search and apparently Rocky Mountain is recalling some of the rear tires because they were improperly cured and the tread could peel off. The notice says that if you are concerned about the recall, you should call Rocky Mountain. So it appears that some of the tires may be defective.
