I've skimmed through all your steering box videos, now that I have two open on the bench (output shaft bearings knackered on the original), I'm finding I have to go back and pay more attention to the wee details!

The light was $45 - had a krypton bulb which was as bright as a Toc H lamp. Got an LED one $28 - just for the bulb!

To take the piston cover off, I made a thread M8 in the centre to pull it out. Before assembly, I pluged it with a M8 scrub and sealant. Worked well. Keep up the good job, Mike.

Great video. I find the hole to release the snap ring is about 5mm. It’s easy to tap it M6 so you can screw a bolt in to make releasing the ring easy. The bearing surface on the input shaft on mine was toast. Bought a new box from Britpart. Anyone buying a new box needs to reset the bearing preloads as mine was miles out.

I do not know who supplies recon boxes now but Britpart one's years ago were so bad they stopped supplying them and then only supplying new ones, but I think that new production has dried up now

Doing this job now. Thanks for the fresh look at this box. My workshop guide has three seals that go into the sector shaft seal, but I only have two. The blue seal, and the copper washer with the rubber on it before the circlip. There is dust seal, but I don't think it goes before the circlip right? I hope I not loosing my mind here.

The very early boxes had a hydraulic seal (if you can call it that) a paper gasket then a metal washer with a lip on it Later seals are just a blue hydraulic seal and the metal/rubber lip washer

Hi everyone. I have a 1987 110 with a 200tdi fitted to it. Recently the oil pressure warning light has began flashing on and off but the oil level is correct can anyone help me trouble shoot what the issue is please I really have no idea where to start with it. Many thanks

Change the switch for an OEM quality one, not a cheap Britpart one

@@BritannicaRestorations Mike thank you kind sir and I have to say. Your a wealth of knowledge. In a hole lot of ways Would never had the confidence to rebuild a steering box. 🙈 Build an engine no probs but a steering box. Mmm. One of them. I would say about the fuel pump on the heaters are iffy. It’s worth getting a hold of a. Eberspacher D2 one fits straight onto existing. Plug in the kit.

Actually they are not that bad to do - you have to work out when one is beyond economical repair - but the set-up is not bad OK for you guys in the UK to get plenty of RHD boxes - but here LHD are like chicken's teeth! A recon box here is £700!
