The smell of decomp is something you will never forget. A month ago, there was a gentleman that lived 5 apartments down from me that I hadn't seen for a couple of weeks which was very abnormal. I knocked on his door every morning and every night but he never answered. Then there was an awful smell coming from his apartment. I kept telling the manager that they needed to do a welfare check on him. They didn't do anything for 2 weeks. When they finally did, the smell was horrendous. It filled the hallway and into our apartments. After he was removed the smell stayed for a couple of days. Turned out that he had been in there dead for 2 weeks according to what his family told me the Coroner said. I apologized to them that I should have just called the Police since the manager didn't do anything. I didn't know how to reach his family. I felt so bad for him. No one deserves that.

Last year in September I had to go to my uncles house. They hadn’t heard from him an a couple weeks. So the neighbors called the constables. My brother and I were the only ones that were allowed to enter since the front door was locked. I had climbed into a window and immediately seen him laying on the floor. My mind didn’t realize what I was staring at. Then I realize it was him. Before entering you can smell it from the side walk. Even tried looking through the window and you can smell it. Was much stronger outside of the house then inside.

I've been a custodian for two years, and I had to deal with someone's rotten Thanksgiving leftovers last night. This was inside a commons area at an apartment complex. I deal with the gross stuff that no one wants to deal with for a living, and I had to take several breaks because I was having a hard time keeping my lunch down. I mean, it was so rancid that not even flies wanted it! 🤮 Fortunately, the turkey was already in the trash, but, I had to manually unplug a sink full of sour green bean casserole, and that was when I had to run out of the room for fresh air. Coming from a seasoned custodian, that's saying something!! There are few things that smell worse than rotten food that has been sitting in a warm environment for a week!
