In todays video we are starting the process of shaving the engine bay on the bike carbed 4AGE ae86 project. Man is it a lot of work! Shaved engine bay s take time and boy am I figuring that out now.
In the last couple of videos we attempted to start the recently completed ae86 engine swap. The 4age engine swap was converted to run off of a series of bike carbs from a Yamaha yzf600r motorcycle . This jdm bike carbed 4age 16v engine will power the ae86 trueno coupe. The jdm 4age 16v engine is out of an AE92 and was converted to also run in the ae86 rwd orientation. This automotive build vlog documents the complete ae86 build project and the obstacles that may get in the way with a diy jdm project car.
In this video I also explain how exactly I am going to tackle this part of the project. I need your help and opinions on what to do with the seams in the shaved engine bay . Do we fully weld and shave or use a thin bead of seam sealer? In any case we have to complete the engine bay before we paint the ae86 build project . Stay tuned for more update to come on the project ae86. Maybe one day we will take the ae86 drift ing !! ea86 ae68 corrola toyoda ae86 project

little tip that you may like for welding up all the holes when I did my engine bay I used a small flat bar of copper/brass (either works). The weld does not stick to the copper/brass. so you hold the flat bar to the back side of the hole and then weld it up. less burn through and speeds things up. minimal grinding needed.

This is a great tip! Sorry for the delay in replying to this comment, but I actually smashed up a copper pipe in a later video and used it just as you described. It worked really well to help fill up holes I burned through on. Thanks for watching, commenting, and tuning in!

Excellent video again. Welding the seams then grinding flat followed with a skim of filler would look amazing. I regret not doing more smoothing on my 88 Nissan pulsar 👍😎

Thanks for the input, I am still wanting to do exactly that, I just have to motivate myself enough to go full send! Thanks for tuning in!

Stitch weld and seam seal is going to be easier for sure. That much heat on old metal could lead to cracking down the road. You would really have to be careful no to overheat areas while doing it. Its not like you can run a continuous bead for each seam. If are going to be welding, adding some reinforcement plates/angles to engine bay would be a good idea. I know MotoP had some information on where to add them on the old Club4ag forums. Also the @juiceboxforyou guys shared a company in Ireland that's making a reinforcement kit. AE86's have long been known in the community to crack where the frame rail meets the fire wall. A simple steel angle there really beef things up.

Extremely underrated channel brother. I've been contemplating doing my own body work on my FC and you're selling me really hard on doing it myself. Thanks for the motivation and body work tips. Hope your channel takes off dude.

Sorry for the late reply, I must have missed this comment! Thanks for the kind words,I really appreciate it and I hope the channel takes off sometime too! Guess we will both see in due time. Bodywork isn't hard, it just takes a lot of time an patience. With that being said you can definitely do it yourself!

Nice man!! When I did mine I welded the seems, however I didn't weld them 'solid' as it were, but just did like 1/2inch welds in spaces. Then grinded those and filled over the tubs with filler and just used seem sealer on the top seems.

If you seam weld it should make the chassis stiffer. If your going for more of a street/weekend car I would seam seal it. Love watching your vids.

Please wear safety goggles when you use those wire brushes. If you get a wire in your eye it can rust inside and you may lose your vision!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I am still going to run the 16v 4age and currently do not have plans to swap it with another engine. If I did swap it though, it would probabaly be swapped with a beams :D. Thanks for tuning in!
