AEG Lavamat Protex L75480 Washer Dryer Faults

After just 2 years and 4 months this £700 machine has failed.
The last error code recorded is E31 which means a new pressure switch and main PCB are required just to be sure of curing the problem.
We do have a 5 year warranty but whether it covers the cost of parts only we are yet to see.
Parts are not carried by the engineer who called yesterday and he will be back next week hopefully.
The latest Which magazine says AEG customers are not happy with the brands reliability any more and the engineer backed this up.
I can no longer recommend AEG or this machine due to the reliability issues reported and our own issues with this machine.
Buy a Miele if you can afford to, if not check out the Which best buys and reliability reports from members.

My AEG lasted nearly 30 years, what finally made me replace it was I needed a new main bearing set, and the agents wanted more than the cost of the replacement LG top loader for it. I rebuilt the water pump ( bodged a new motor on it after the original failed), fixed the motor thyristor board ( dead caps and dry joint city on power resistors), replaced brushes and repacked the bearings a few times. New ones are not the same, built down to such a low spec but still priced like they were gold.

We have an AEG Lavamat PROTEX Plus Washing machine model L8748FL and lately has developed kind of a problem. when trying to wash using 'Time Save' to reduce the wash time down from 3 hours to about 1 hr 15, a 'clock; sign pops up on the display. During this session, the machine stops (or pauses) at approx. every 30 minutes, and to continue, I have to manually press the 'Start/ Pause' button to continue. How can I remove the appearance of this 'clock sign' on the display panel, and ensure that the session does not stop half way (generally before the rinse session) ? Thanks

I have a similar model, mine won't do a drying cycle, it will do a full wash/dry but not a simple dry, the error is E10, no water....which there must be as it washes. Looks like a new circuit board is needed. How were they on the warranty, I've yet to claim. Oh little tip, if you need to empty the machine via the bottom or clean out the fluff trap, if you have a carpet cleaner, like a Vax, set that to suck the water up as the machine is emptying, it just goes out the machine, into the Vax. So much easier than 100 baking trays and a soaking wet shirt.

Couldnt agree more. Bought one based on which review in 2013. One broke down beyond repair and in fairness I had a new one sent out. However, 2 years later I've got another fault. These are not reliable!

I hope you can help... I'm struggling to remove the filter. After draining off the water (on to the floor!), I just can't get a secure grip on the thing and I can't turn it. Any advice?

My AEG Lavamat - Turbo has just stopped drying after 2 years. The filter has been cleaned, hoses checked. Do not but this brand. I did lots and of research and read the Which report, I agree, buy Miele instead.

I got the same E31 error and unfortunately the technicians didn't know how to repair it! I am so frastrated

To me sounds like power regulation/supply for the controller. Bad caps? The service company will just replace the whole board of course. Most of the white goods nowadays are made in Italy, so other than the name of the brand there are not that much difference as it all comes from the same assembly plants.

Check the drain filter isn't blocked. Bottom right on the front of the machine.

Of course. Very few machines have a hot water inlet connection.

mark fontaine No problem recommending AEG. Select a short rinse after tumble drying with it. We use a standalone dryer these days.

It's easier to tip the machine back while clearing the filter..worked for me and saved me ££
