It's funny how because he doesn't have many lines after episode 3, nearly everyone forgets that Bert actually did _most_ of the talking in the episode he and Reiner were introduced. If you go back and watch it again, it's him giving exposition while Reiner keeps trying to get him to shut up. At the time it seemed like it was because Reiner didn't want Bert bringing up stuff that Eren would find traumatic, but on re-watch you realize it's because he didn't want him to accidentally say too much and cause suspicion.

It's over 20 years since I watched it but I'm pretty sure there was an episode where will and an older relative are arguing with each other while hanging from trees by parachutes (no idea how that happened), and the older guy talks about needing to swing to build up momenimum. The anime actually cut out a segment which should've been in episode 4 of S1 where Annie decides to teach Eren some of her moves and they have a genuine bonding moment. I just love that even though she isn't currently in the story, she still has a role to play. Keep in mind, Annie was ranked 4th out of all the Cadets and that was with all of her slacking off and not playing well with others which cost her some points. Had she put her all into training, she definitely could've been either 2 or rivaled Mikasa for 1. As for your question, I definitely prefer Annie over Mikasa

Nah, it takes more than combat skill to be ranked highly in the Cadets. Teamwork and leadership were very important to their final grades too, which is why Reiner was ranked higher than Annie and Bertolt despite being the least skilled fighter out of the 3 Warriors.

yeap and also they "didn't have" the "luxury" of doing an extended period of time off (for the show not the animators) like wits did between s1 and 2 but instead of alocating the animators in other projects like wits did to try to have a more healthy scheduling but because general concensus among the fans was "they aren't taking 4 years again aren't they?" so mappa probably just pulled up their "motivational whips" (even tho they 100% could have took the time they needed, mappa has no excuse for doing that) like i think most of the staff just finished working with dorohedoro and (and i don't know if this is true or not) i've heard that the last episode of s4 part a was literally finished the day/ day before they aired it but even if that last bit isn't true that's still a perfect metaphor for how crunched those animators are

Damn, I know you were joking about the animators not being ok/getting time off but unfortunately they actually were extremely overworked and stressed out by season 2 and 3 (one of the most beautifully crafted works of all time) of AoT to the point where they had to drop the show and pass it over to another studio for season 4 :( Season 4 still fire though there are just some animation differences and inconsistencies sometimes.
