One of the most galling aspects of Littlefinger's death is that D&D were clearly setting up Sansa to outplay him in a sort of student surpassing the master situation. It was clumsy and rushed, but it was there. Then they just said "f**k it" and had the Bran 9000 reveal Littlefinger's entire plot to Sansa, robbing her of the victory.

What an amazing play by Sansa "Trust me everybody my crippled little brother has become omniscient therefore I can execute any lords I want with impunity and no tangible evidence, even if those lords have several thousand soldiers in the vicinity loyal to him. Good thing the young lord in the veil is gonna dissapear off the face of the earth and never complain that we murdered his beloved uncle"

@John R Thing is George understands how feudal society works and how an ambitious individual might manipulate it. He understands that "lordship" is based on perception and if those perceptions were ever to be broken, for example if somebody could just murder a lord and claim their place without cause, it would spell disaster for any landed nobles because any bastard with a sword could claim power. This is why the "Game" as a concept exists in the setting. D&D don't understand this so by seasons 8 onward people just murder lords willy nilly and get rewarded for it. Sansa murders Littlefinger in cold blood in front of many witnesses with no just cause, in fact Littlefinger *just* got done rallying forces to help her win the defining battle of her political career. Imagine the rumors! "Did you hear the Stark girl had Peytr Baylish executed even though he just helped her win a war? How ungrateful!" "Why did she do it?" "She said her father was innocent of treason and conspiracy, the evidence for which was supernatural made up mumbojumbo and that lord Baylish framed him" "Sounds like she was just trying to rewrite history so her father and the bloodline had no traitors and murder a political rivat at the same time" "What an evil wench!" (sorry for the rant)

At the end of season 6 when LF told Sansa he wants to be on the Iron Throne with her by his side (which I am very certain is not his goal in the books, at least not being the idiot who has to sit on the throne) and then at Jons corronation when LF gave that look and Sansa face when to: "oh shit, he'll have to get rid of Jon for that" i was so excited for season 7. Sansa would have to figure out a way to get rid of him, without him noticing and while holding him back for plotting against Jon. And then season 7 happend.

My solution would require a major rewrite because it would be Tyrion discovering who framed him for Bran's death. This would be a significant portion of Tyrion's story for several seasons leading up to the conclusion. A body is tied up, sitting, and covered, in the middle of a well kept cell under Winterfell. You hear someone in conversation descending a spiral stone staircase. You recognize the voice is Tyrion's, and he is saying something like, "and it took me a long time to sort out how it happened and who set the events in motion." As he rounds the turn, Ayria is following Tyrion. Tyrion continues, "But I figured out who framed me for the attempt on your brother's life, and I thought you should be the first, well I'm hoping the only other person, to know." Tyrion uncovers the person tied up in the chair. "I've also been told you have new ... special ... skills. And I really believe there is no one I could think of to take it from here better qualified, better motivated, than you." Ayria stares at Littlefinger who is blinking and focusing his eyes to see who is there with Tyrion. He dips his head down to reduce the light into his eyes as he blinks furiously. Who knows how long its been since he saw this much torchlight. "But I want you to remember the whole story. This all began after our friend here", Tyrion continues as he motions for Ayria to stand behind Littlefinger, "conspired to kill John Arron, the Hand of the King." "And after that, the king ... asked ... his best friend, Lord Eddard Stark, a man even my father respected for his honor, to serve as the new Hand of the King." "And this also led to the King commanding that his ... son ... should marry Lord Eddard's young innocent daughter, Sansa. Well we know how that turned out. But you can ask her, and she'll tell you, I always treated her well during our short courtship and marriage." Aryia has been staring at the back of Littlefinger's head and he has been struggling to see who Tyrion's been talking to. He twists his head and begins to say, "I can explain..." but Tyrion strikes him with the butt of the torch he's carrying saying, "Don't interrupt. Now where was I? Oh, yes, the reason I'm here; the reason you're here; the reason he's here. You see, it was during that visit, and your brother's accident, that he saw an opportunity to have your brother killed and me framed for the murder." At the mention of "Your brother", Littlefinger snaps his head forward and looks at Tyrion with alarm and real terror. He starts to speak again, and Tyrion smacks the side of his head with the shaft of the torch saying, "Shut up, this is an interesting story and I'm going to tell it." Tyrion continues with all the crimes of Littlefinger, including selling Sansa to Lord Bolton for his adopted son to have, knowing the boy was mentally ill; his manipulation of Sansa, marrying her aunt Lysa and subsequent murder, so he could have the castle and land, his return to manipulate Sansa after young Lord Bolton was narrowly defeated in battle with her brother, and the murder of her youngest brother ... "So I will leave you now" as he reaches to light another torch in a sconce on the wall, "and tell you nobody knows he is here other than the three of us. Nobody knows where he is as a matter of fact. He was abducted on the road and delivered to me by my good and well paid friend, Lord Bron. Bron doesn't know where I took him after that. And I trust that after you've ... talked ... no one will ever know how he died, where he died or when he died. Can I trust you in that, Ayria?" And Ayria steps in front of Littlefinger looking at him and not Tyrion. Without looking away she says, "Yes, you can trust me to do that." As Tyrion turns to leave, he begins to cry and scream out that he wants to explain, but Ayria draws a thin dagger, the one used on the attempt against Bran, and says "No one can hear you down here so stop screaming or I'll make this take even longer." And Ayria smiles a little looking at his terror filled eyes. She calls to Tyrion, "Thank you for the dagger, Lord Tyrion. I'll make good use of it." Tyrion has disappeared already but calls back, "You're welcome. See you at breakfast." And a heavy door creaks on hinges and slams shut.

My other thought on this...Littlefinger and Sansa deserved a proper resolution to their arc. Imagine if the show had wrote Sansa to actually outsmart LF by using her wits and the skills LF taught her, as opposed to relying on her omnipotent brother to do so. Not only that, imagine if the show had LF try to pit Sansa against Jon, who had everything to give, as opposed to pitting her against Arya, who had nothing to give and thus couldn't further LF's power. I thought the show implied that's what would happen with that lingering stare between LF and Sansa after Jon was proclaimed king, and after LF emphasized to Sansa that Jon was only her half-brother during their secret meeting in Mole's Town several episodes before. I guess D&D kinda forgot. Of course Sansa, familiar w/how LF operates, would know straight away that he would try to set her against her brother so she doesn't take the bait and instead enacts a scheme of her own as a counter, which of course would be to let LF think she would betray Jon and steal his throne. Further, Sansa potentially betraying Jon would've naturally created the conflict with Arya because of Arya's unwavering love for/ loyalty to Jon. But surprise, because Arya's been trained to detect lies you could reveal at the end that Arya knew Sansa was deceiving Littlefinger the whole time and played along because she now trusts and respects her sister since Sansa would've actually earned the respect. But hey, that's just a disgruntled fan's perspective.

@@wizardsummoner9124 Although I like both Littlefingers, you are right. The movie Littlefinger is much less viable than the book Littlefinger. Just imagine someone approaching you, and the first thing that the person says is a strange semi-self-revealing sentence said in a quiet tone that raises suspicion. This is the show Littlefinger. Even the style how he speaks reveals him. He is just too transparent. The book Littlefinger is better because he is realistically made. He is a great manipulator because everybody likes him. @@Awesomebaconman123 I hadn't heard that, though I could absolutely see it being true. I'll look into it! I was thinking LF because we're specifically told that the instant things popped off, Sansa's escort (Mandon Moore) abandoned her to protect Joffrey, then a man starts to pull Sansa from her horse and would've taken her had The Hound not intervened by cutting his arm off and killing him. Now, Ser Mandon was brought to court from the Vale and appointed to the Kingsguard despite the fact that Jon Arryn didn't care for him. This implies that Lysa probably pushed for that move, and if Lysa advocated for it we can assume Littlefinger actually wanted it. On her own, Lysa wouldn't have a vested interest in the makeup of the Kingsguard, but Littlefinger would. Using Lysa to install one of his agents in the Kingsguard is consistent with his character. So, do I think LF gave Ser Mandon orders to leave Sansa once the riot began so another of his agents was free to take her? Yes I do. Do I think LF has the same motivation to take Tyrek as Varys does- meaning acquire one of Robert's squires who would have knowledge of all of Robert's movements in his final days- yes I do. I would love to read the next book. RR Martin is a way better author than the shows writers. I thought the shows writer was rather good when they followed his script somewhat.

For some odd reason, I rewatched season 7 and 8 this week. It was 10x worse than I remembered. The dialogue was pathetic. The story made no sense. The characters were so out of characters it was cringe worthy

I feel like he betrayed Ned because he wanted to marry Catelyn (for power and love) and then when Catelyn died his focus shifted to Lysa and Sansa.

d&d ruined little finger and sansa so much, their story should’ve ended with the student upping the teacher and her being lady of the veil and taking winterfell back from the bolton’s with jon in season 6 the same but with the knights of the veil being there from the beginning

Behind Cersei, my favorite ‘evil’ character of GOT. What the show did with his character was pitiful. Him and Varys we’re so watchable in the earlier episodes and they truly did play the game of thrones 🤟🏻

I was actually okay with how Littlefinger died. However, I felt that it should’ve been saved for the end of the show. He’s manipulating everyone the entire show, and after the Long Night (which should’ve been longer) and winning the Game of Thrones, Littlefinger is still trying to manipulate everyone into thinking he’d be the best leader, which would include trying to drive a wedge between the Stark girls, which leads to the same death.
